Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty! - Proverbs
Accept Jesus as your Lord and savior - Pray this - "Jesus, Lord of Nazareth, come into my heart and take control of my life so that I may live my life thru you." Now watch the miracles start to happen in your life and those who you pray for in the name of Jesus, Lord of Nazareth - "Give to those who beg you, love those who hate you, Pray for your enemy" - Jesus
and i guess all blacks have suffered and all whites have not? come on. what a softy this moyers guy is. This guy wants to come off as cool and calm and intellectual and act like this was just a part of a rational thought pattern in the studio and then get back in front of a sympathetic crowd and yell and scream hatred. I don't buy his explanation.
if you are getting hung up on the word 'buy', i retract it. it's a colloquial phrase. all i mean is that i don't think his explanation is a legitimate rationalization of the things he said. i think he does hold disdain for white america that's why he said the things he said. not b/c of some highly intellectual spiritual concept that he was trying to highlight in his sermons.
the reference to 'white america' is not mine. it's a recurring them throughout many of wright's sermons. i would have thought someone as knowledgeable about him as you would have known that. also if you want specifics, watch this video. moyers plays the clip of the sermon then wright explains what he was meaning at the time. what he says at that moment i don't believe. how hard is that to understand, what more specifics are required?
Wow, I watched this video to hear Wright as Wright not as the media says he is and I was very surprised to find him an extremely intelligent (knowing Camus and Shakespeare as he mentions) and very Christian. Thank you Rev. Wright for making a difference. His legacy is not what the media portrays, but the thousands in Chicago who have been given hope in Christ through the ministry of Rev. Wright.
The only people calling Wright's comments racist are the people who are themselves racist, and the people who see a benefit from making these comments out to be racist.
Sounds like you're speaking from the old viewpoint of people who have just seen snippets and soundbytes of selected Rev. Wright speeches. And who have a presupposed resentment of any bad comments against America or white people, whether true or not.
Now that the whole speech is here, you listen with anger rather than with open ears. I don't know why I bother - I guess it does seem worth the time after all. It's not even about a difference of opinion - just totally unrelated notions. sigh...
Keep speaking immaturely and impractically like that. I'd like for someone to address the ongoing overt and covert racism and prejudice against many of our citizens today. Rather than talking nonsense. People who speak like you do turn people off to trying to work together to solve problems. That's why good people must keep hanging in there. Like MLK said, "For evil to triumph, good people do nothing" or something to that effect.
Though arguing with specifically you is really a waste of time.
Obama is a loser on his accord. I respect Rev. Wright for being critical of our government. However, Obama is a man I cannot be happy with to create the change.
has wright set bombs to people's houses, or have burning crosses in people's front yards? the comparison of wright to a kkk leader is an irresponsible analogy. metaphorical preaching is far less dangerous than setting fire on people's property.
ok, now comment after you've seen the above clip. if you have already, then you're just ignorant beyond measure. he said he has members of all races- even white members you idiot!
You know... it's a tragedy that most people won't even hear about, let alone see or hear, this interview of Rev. Wright. All they will see are the deceitful media showings of 3 or 4 soundbytes taken out of context. And everyone is furious.
You watch Rev. Wright and no, there is no anti-American-ness to him, like the media has people believe. I see just practical truth. He tells it like it is, like Dr. King - but people don't want to hear that stuff, only that e.g. the USA is perfect so to say.

It's not for sale, Einstein.

sure it is, otherwise why is he going out on a press tour and planning to publish a book?
johnebii 3 years ago
I was referring to his "explanation", which you claim not to "buy".
Just the same, some books are written and many press tours undertaken not solely to make money.
There are other moral and ethical standards at work here.
Still, why shouldn't someone be paid for writing a book?
Do have any ideas how much work and energy--mental and otherwise--actually goes into producing something others will want to read?

If you want your opinion to be taken as seriously as many take Rev. Wright's you'll have to be more specific in how you reply.
Also, your assertion that he has "disdain for 'white America'" is false and unfounded.
Besides, where is this "white" America you refer to?

This may surprise you, but I surmised the same thing just from watching the media smears against him; I had never seen or heard about him until then.
Moyers' interview simply confirms my original assessment of Wright

Thanks for the video! I love Rev. Wright. He is a decent man.

I get the impression, Rev Wright doesn't want any government. He is a loser and he will make BHO a loser too.
