  • Why Can't The Mainstream Music Sound Like This NOW??!!

  • This is definitely his BEST song

  • I WOULD SING FOR A CHIC THIS SONG....WHO WANTS ME TO?

  • THis was my JAM in secondary school...South London Soul Girls rule! Thanks for posting...gotta find my old vinyl copy

  • This was/is the 1st cut off the album........One of the last albums you could put on and play ALL the way through........Excellent job Jam/Lewis, Steve Hodge (Engineer) and last but NOT least Alexander O'neal

  • Alex, my MAN...:-)*~~~

  • I love this track...it's on my iPod

  • I was stationed in Germany; and I played his whole cd to death. Saw him in concert in Fayetteville North Crolina, loved it all. Deep respect for him and Jimmy Jamm and Terry Lewis. Their music helped shape my life

  • @locohunter1 how about both and not comparing them dummy!

  • hearsay is one of the most underatted albums of the 80's!!

  • @Kallytom ??? not in the UK it wasnt, number one on the big album chart for a few weeks, and number one in the rnb for a lot longer.hearsay was an 80's soul landmark, and we LOVE soul music here

  • @Kallytom So true... I rock this in my car all the time. BEST album

  • awsome song

  • Just having a thought tue music does not have any skin color or likewise objections.

True music will bie listened by those who care for good music as well as lyrics.

Just to sad as Alex went too early, a true talent who kept on pushing black music into the ears of a real listening audience.... True music is colorblind, still

  • Lovely song.

  • i love this song. straight up anthem

  • one of the greatest songs ever ... and u can dance to it too!

  • i lived in europe in the late 80"s it was a great time for black music as it was called in germany!

  • Just got finish watching unsung about Alex and Cherelle and its a shame both of them went through some hard times. Why is it that Europe appreciate black talentive artistes the most. I like the face Alex said he wasn't going to cross over and stay true to who he was. Nothing like good 80's music.

  • @downtownchicagobarbi One of the reasons is because elements of soul music in the UK aren't trendy. They appreciate vintage music and artistry. Sure, we make them, but at the same time we are "flavor of the month", trendy and fairweather. There are soul artists from the 70's and 80's that will fill Wembley Stadium today cause they preserve good soul music. If you are true to Soul Music, you don't have to crossover for some corny pop sound, people come to you and RESPECT YOU!

  • @victornewman06: Well said and it's good to know. And although black is viewed by some as a "flavor of the month" look how long that flavor lasts!

  • @lmboyd3 Indeed, the sad irony also is that a lot of black folks here have abandoned black music for pop success. This is why you have an influx of artists that sound the same and always featuring other artists on 50% of their albums cause it's about gimmicks.

  • @victornewman06: Ain't that the truth! I can't help but fear that is this time of promise for black people that we are losing our soul and rhythm because we forgot about yesteryear, some of the elders have given up teaching, some of the youth are so stubborn they don't want to listen, and/or our value systems have slowly since the late 60s have collapsed. Everything that looks good, isn't always good! Keep the sounds coming Mr. Newman. I love it!

  • @victornewman06 Another reason is that these tunes used to pump out at the uk clubs. All us young free and single people would bounce to it!

  • @victornewman06 ouch. lol. Well coming from Black guy who sings old skool style...ummm Its hard to get signed.....hence i went to rap. Didnt get signed but was able to perform at clubs and sold some mixtapes...shyt it is life.

  • @lmboyd3 The Everlasting Gobstopper of music!!

  • @downtownchicagobarbi Yea it's a shame, but thats how they sound so good, if you want to make good art you have to suffer.

  • love this!

  • This is THE best song he ever made--a true classic

  • 2 People Are Making Love to Trey Songs ..

  • COME ON ALEX, GET BACK TO WORK WITH JIMMY JAM AND PUT OUT SOMETHING NEW.

  • @ViaMickProductions I agree. He with Jam and Lewis had a chemistry unlike no other. It's ashamed Alex's cocaine habit got in the way of him making more masterpieces with Jam & Lewis.

  • What can I say -Fab Album. Can't belive I have had this CD about 24yrs

  • this ain't on itunes in u.k...

  • I love this song!!! 1987 westside of Chicago!!

  • I WISH THERE WAS A VIDEO TO THIS NOW

  • @MultiMjfan1 there is a video as music videos have been out for decades, and you could'nt promote a song in the 80's without a video. unfortunately the person or production company who own it wont allow it's release, god knows why as criticize is available. still let's just enjoy the music my friend

  • best song o neal ever made...wow i wish i could go back to 1987

  • i agree ronpc. i was 3yrs out of high school. the first time i heard this song is when i was sthe ationed at fort hood texas. when they played this at the clubs everybody hit the dance floor. 70s and the 80s had the best music . every song had meaning to the songs now a days its just garbage. tell me if i'm right/wrong.

  • damn thats some happy music man! 80's damn how time has changed so much!

  • the bass line is just simply NASTY!!

  • this was the best one!!! i used to play this sooo much..takesme back to summer of 88!!

  • His best Album was " All mixed up"! Listen to it and relax...

  • i knew this twas the 2 kidz of mastry flight time at it,s finest 7zark7

  • Jimmy Jam,and Terry Lewis written all over this track good music

  • If you ever wonder...I do in fact still Luv U Veronica! ;)

  • What a great song, jam and lewis were the best... U.S urban soul pop has been replaced with fu##ing autotune enough allready my ears are bleeding ..we need a revival!!

  • @dickychip Word!!!

  • me and me best mate paul out on the pull on a saturday nite....wen this came on we went into overdrive.....fantastic days....anyone got a time machine?...if so, lets fuck off back to this magical time!!!

  • Fantastic song, most of his songs are great. Very 80s.

  • Wow! Memories! I was madly in love with a girl and I made her a little comic book, cutting out pictures from 1950s teen romance magazines and putting the words from this song in the speech bubbles.

She was very touched but she still wasn't going for it! Still, I'm glad I did it. Wonder where she is now......

  • THIS is music!

  • fab song! makes me smile every time i hear it! he was/is the best!

  • Go Alex. Excellent ;)

  • Oh man, this was jst too good. Wh was better, Alex O'neal or James Ingram?

  • @maximillion20 Peabo Bryson and Gerald Levert, those were who LOL. I liked their singing better than Alexander's. James Ingram was better too.

  • this is a top tune

  • jimmy jam and terry lewis classic. one of the best!!!

  • this is music, wish they still made this kind of music.

  • @straitnewyork711 we all do friend. Race you to the time machine back to 1985...

  • Reminds me of "Julie" who I went out with for a while and met in Lexington Avenue Night Club in Hull in the mid 1980's - we danced to this a lot! God Bless you Julie and I hope you are happy in life! xx

  • This was when Jam & Lewis was giving Alex all that his powerhouse voice could handle. If you heard Alex today, it'd make you cry. He has smoked and sniffed his voice right out of anything recognizable and its sad. He has been trying to make comebacks but his vocal chords say he's retired.

  • @vybe wow how sad

  • Right.i seen him in concert twice in the uk,and his voice wasnt always as strong as on record;he was even toting ganja on stage.! Shame, as he had such a strong voice....

  • O my gudness...one of the very best way back...cant seem to find any of this these days...

  • Can never have enough of the Minneapolis Sound. It's awesome r&b/pop with the element of guitar rock.

  • Tuuuuuuuuune! When music was kicking and Fun...! Not the shite they call No Soul that's out there now..Jam and Lewis and Monte were so Funky. Please come back.....

  • 80's and 90's minneapolis beat. I glad I lived in that city back then to experience this. Best time of my life.

  • what a voice, a fantastic range, a smooth operator...

  • what a song...classic

  • The BEST R&B album of 1987!

  • Wow!!! What a brilliant song this was by Alexander.

    Another 80s classic.

  • Alex writes the book of luv wow great momments in my live fantastic memories

    5 StArS

  • This is just awesome

  • Great song....off the hook music with the synthesizers and drum machines......and Lisa Keith's backing vocals!

  • i´ve loved this album; also this song! Was 1988 as i remeber. Lovely!

  • WOW!!!!! I was a kid but my mom used to play all the r&b hit radio stations in NYC, this song got heavy play in the projects, that's for the flashback! I miss those days....

  • love this - thanks for posting - the entire album is brilliant - sums up the late 80's

  • I never saw this video, is it any good? I love ths song.

  • OH MY GOD, Jam & Lewis sampled Bar kays's Tripping out song on this one, crazy i ve never noticed it before...i thought they were inventive...

  • The irony of your comment is funny...don't you think they [J&L] had to be somewhat inventive for you to have not noticed in the past? I hope u don't feel that way about them entirely? .. We know no idea is a 100% original so if u take one and do right by it, then it's all good....or not? .

  • I love the Minneapolis Sound. This was the best in the eighties.

  • Nothing more to say - AO'n is saying it all!

  • big up alex

  • omg i love this song... i wish i was born in like the 70s so i woulda been around to appreciate it!

  • I applaud your ear for music, oh God what can I say I was a couple of years out of high school when this came out and I must tell you I lived the best years of my young life during the 70's and 80's cause of great music like this. The radio stations would play nothing but jams but all of a sudden things just faded away, but the good thing is you have youtube and your able to hear all these classic jams.

  • So then I am a lucky person because I was born in the 60's and raised as a teenager and in my 20's with this great music during the 80's and early 90's. Thnx for that compliment, lilgalshorty.

Greetzz, a lucky dude of 44.

  • You can never have to much of Alexander

    He is so underated.

  • Love the bridge in this one!
