There wil be no big ships only those Mine clearing 3 Sundown + Ristna maybe some more.
There will be no real fighter force but maybe some ground Flight readiness in all 5 biggest airports. FA-50s are for patroling and training groundcrew and radar teams.
Sweden will stand by Estonia in the case of war! I hope Estonia and the other baltic countries would be able to purchase surplus Swedish material, like our Leopard 2A4's and CV90's which have been put in storage, or second hand C/D Gripens! Long live Estonia and the Baltics!
@wellerocks Estonia will probably purchase armor from Sweden, it's in our defence development plan. I hope that Sweden will sell us older 155mm FH77 howitzers, we're two battalions short at the moment.
Latvian and Lithuanian armies have nothing to do with protecing their countries, their only task is to train and send mercenaries on foreign missions. Besides, their defence budgets are cut down to almost nothing.

I wish the Baltic countries would be able to make a unified air force made up of second hand Gripens so that you'd be able to withstand an invasion.

I understand that this video is about how the Estonian army would look like in 2018. I'm not sure about the fighter planes, tanks and other heavy equipment. As Estonia needs to put it's efforts in buying them, but they also need the pilots. If they get some they would probably hire pilots from another country as Estonia doesn't have the equipment to train them (same for the tanks). Also the vehicles needs to be maintained all the time. It would be hard.
It is a good thing that Estonia is a member of NATO.
Not that president Obamama whould react if Estonia whould be attacked but Germany and most of the "new" eastern NATO members will. And if we are lucky England will be on our side.
@Reingur I don't know where you get this from, but USA is one of our best allies and the best hope, if Russia invades. I wouldn't rely so much on the Germans, because Germany is sucking on a Russian gas tit. I Served in the (EDF Army) I am the former Provost Marshal of Tallinn. I recomended in. 1995a, that Estonia Needs Tanks, Gunships, Fighters and bombers! These are long Overdue. This should have happened years ago. We had an opportunity with the former East German NVA Army weapons, Estonian political leadership is to blame for not getting this stuff, even though they were Warsaw Pact nomaclature not NATO it still would have been good to have for defense and training.
I dont see any problem of just hiring or leasing old not updated Jas Gripens just for peanuts money really, since they are in warehouses and not flown

We don't have money for tanks, IFV's, APC's, howittzers, fighter aircraft or for anything that can bite back. But we HAVE IT for 3 minesweepers (900 000 000.-) and for participation in some transport plane project (600 000 000.-) The problem is, that our defence planners think, that foreign relations and partnership with NATO equals Estonian defence. I'm afraid, that in 2018 we'll be having the same promlems - mainly lack of armor and heavy weapons, plus Defence Ministry's lame excuses.

The Pasi's usually lose a wheel after being attacked by IEDs. However, RPGs remain a great threat (even though RPGs are very rare in the rebuilding missions of Afghanistan and Iraq when compared to IEDs). They considered adding extra armor netting on the sides of the vehicle but the idea was dropped because the Pasi cannot carry the weight. Not with soldiers and equipment aboard. Our Ministry Of Defence wants to buy fancy transport helicopters and such, instead of equipping the Defence Force with the basic armor protection and fire support. It doesn't take a general to figure out, that light infantry without the support of heavy weapons is cannon-meat on todays mobile battlefield.
Our defence analysts must change their way of thinking, that partnership with NATO plus foreign missions equals Estonian defence. We have to be something ourselves, for others to help us!

I really support these ambitions, because they look toughest between Baltic states, but in my opinion that is way too optimistic. In some aspects i think even Poland would have problems to accomplish this kind of reorganization. Of course we just have to wait till 2018 and see for ourself.

122mm D-30 howitzer is not today!! It's sights are WW2. Maximum range of 14-15km. is too short to be the brigade artillery system. It could be used in a suporting role to the 155mm FH-70 howitzer as a light howitzer in the 1st. Inf. Brig. but stil it weights 3,2tons, this means 4-5t truck has to carry it. The deployment is completly manual, its tripod legs have to be hammered in to the ground, sacrificing the mobility and speed needed for the shoot & scoop tactics used by the Suurtükiväegrupp.
Although this video is only a fictional vision! - there are indeed some elements which are becoming reality as the time goes on. The artillery, tanks, IFVs, APCs, helicopters, and medium range air-defense are one of the examples.

I understand that this video is about how the Estonian army would look like in 2018. I'm not sure about the fighter planes, tanks and other heavy equipment. As Estonia needs to put it's efforts in buying them, but they also need the pilots. If they get some they would probably hire pilots from another country as Estonia doesn't have the equipment to train them (same for the tanks). Also the vehicles needs to be maintained all the time. It would be hard.

@VbLimit estonians actually have some basic fighter pilot training. we got few borrowed training jets they use to train some pilots.

Not that president Obamama whould react if Estonia whould be attacked but Germany and most of the "new" eastern NATO members will. And if we are lucky England will be on our side.

@Reingur I don't know where you get this from, but USA is one of our best allies and the best hope, if Russia invades. I wouldn't rely so much on the Germans, because Germany is sucking on a Russian gas tit. Besides, Bundeswehr is no longer the force, what it used to be during the cold war and the majority of European countries have reduced their armies under the illusion of peace.

32 MBT and 16 fighters Yeah rihgt... This is ridiculous, are you guys going to invade Latvia? MBT's are offensive weapoms and in such little numbers we'll would be uselles. As for fighters they shoul be bought together with Latvia and Lithuania and positionned somewhere in west Latvia to avoid beging overrunned by ennemis ground forces and to have relevant numbers.
On the other hand, artillery and navy should become creadible and efficiant doing theirs jobs

I Served in the (EDF Army) I am the former Provost Marshal of Tallinn. I recomended in. 1995a, that Estonia Needs Tanks, Gunships, Fighters and bombers! These are long Overdue. This should have happened years ago. We had an opportunity with the former East German NVA Army weapons, Estonian political leadership is to blame for not getting this stuff, even though they were Warsaw Pact nomaclature not NATO it still would have been good to have for defense and training.

@freemanaa You mean Georgians had a lot of modern weapons like T-72's, BMP's, BTR's, MTLB's, D-30's, PK's, AK-74's,.....!!???? These are all old Soviet weapons my friend. The main reasons for the Georgian defeat were poor planning and terrible logistical suport, not some brilliant Russian blitzkrieg.

think how fast they can take out enemis coming over peipsi...thes boats are equipped with submarine torpedos and submarin torpedo can not hit them ..(protected somehow) and they can cover inland support with fire long distance tallinn to narva...very easy to transport troops if main roads are warzone and if they are covered with jetfighters the power will be amazing

If only the Germans were to shut up about the big gas line running on the bottom of the BalticSea and just saw the potential of having better relations with the 3 Baltic states.
If German NATO troops (German tank brigades) would be in the Baltic States the Russians would never dare to attack.
Just the presence of a few German Leopards would scare the Russians back home?

We don't have money for tanks, IFV's, APC's, howittzers, fighter aircraft or for anything that can bite back. But we HAVE IT for 3 minesweepers (900 000 000.-) and for participation in some transport plane project (600 000 000.-) The problem is, that our defence planners think, that foreign relations and partnership with NATO equals Estonian defence. I'm afraid, that in 2018 we'll be having the same promlems - mainly lack of armor and heavy weapons, plus Defence Ministry's lame excuses.

The Navy Warship Division would be a waste of money in my opinion.
Although I love this film, I just wish that our military was this way today and there is doubt that our military will be any stronger in 2018 than it is at the moment.

The Pasi's usually lose a wheel after being attacked by IEDs. However, RPGs remain a great threat (even though RPGs are very rare in the rebuilding missions of Afghanistan and Iraq when compared to IEDs). They considered adding extra armor netting on the sides of the vehicle but the idea was dropped because the Pasi cannot carry the weight. Not with soldiers and equipment aboard. So new APCs will be needed anyway, if armor protection is desired. Või tahad Eesti keeles? :)

Our Ministry Of Defence wants to buy fancy transport helicopters and such, instead of equipping the Defence Force with the basic armor protection and fire support. It doesn't take a general to figure out, that light infantry without the support of heavy weapons is cannon-meat on todays mobile battlefield.
Our defence analysts must change their way of thinking, that partnership with NATO plus foreign missions equals Estonian defence. We have to be something ourselves, for others to help us!

Pakun, et pigem tuleks siiski ennem oma hävitajatele panustada, kui et mereväge välja arendada. Raha vähe ning kõike ei saa ning sellisel juhul tuleks eelistada rohkem paindlikke relvasüsteeme. Hävitajad suudavad rünnata objekte merel, maal ja õhus ning ära hoida võimalikke äkkrünnakuid a'la tuleb Pihkva dessant ja vallutab Toompea 20minutiga. Archer on super aga võibolla ratastel AGM oleks mõistlikum (odavam versioon Pzh2000'est).

venkudel voib olla 20,000 tanki aga nendest vähemalt 15,000 tanki on 2ra roostetanud voi keegi on mootori 2ra varastanud.kuna nad ei taha oma tanki reservi palju v2hendada ja saadavad eestile peale umbes 500 tanki ja ulejäänud masinad on mingid veneaegsed veoautod mis on umber ehitatud jalav2etranspatöörideks

i think that it would be a smarter move to buy more efficient anti-air units than trying to create a formidable air force , although helicopters and transports planes wouldn't be a bad idea ,

When the Tallinn (Estonian) government moved the statue of the old WW2 soldier, and organized riots appeared (mostly professional Russian and EU gangsters). What if the nation of Estonia would like to replace it with a statue of Ronald Reagan, a true believer of an anti communist world but at the same time some of a pacifist. The man who defeated communism without a missile being launched. I personally think RR would like to be statue in Estonia.

Propaganda works yes it does! That is why all democratic countries must work together (even Taiwan and South Korea). Who controls information is not the only key to a small nation but it is very important. If you can send out a mayday or SOS it is important to do that. If your call is right and lawful you will get some support from the outside. The Russians have always loved to keep their own people from communicating with people on the outside

Who knows maybe even some free Chinese from Taiwan will come to help; maybe not with warriors but with cyber warriors/ computer wizards, and help us against attacks like the one that some time ago originated from the Kremlin. It was when the Estonian town of Tallinn wanted to move a WW2 monument over a Soviet soldier from the town square to a war cemetery. --- Loads of international terrorists/communist made a big riot.

If Russia tries once again to illegally take the Baltics, the Baltics will resist in a very die hard, last drop of blood fighting. And hopefully many volunteers will come from around the EU, and even Canada, the South America and the US to help us against Russia and (in some way communism). Today we can via Internet and E-mail call for support.

If Estonia and our Baltic friends have some money hidden away, use them now and buy SAAB Gripen the Swedish fighterplane. SAAB also has an automobil divison in the hands of US GM and it will most likly be bankrupt. So if any small nice country buys SAABs Gripen airfighter you will win mutch goodwill in the political fight between the Baltics and Russia.
(Russia never buys anything from Sweden they only steel and spy on us).

The Estonians are buying top class warcraft from countries like Sweden, Germany and the US. If Estonia train their troops right together with that equipment they will still have a small but "stingy" army.
Live in Sweden today Sweden has no allies and soon no army, but are still neighbourgs to Russia. Today if war between Sweden and Estonia, without inteference from the outside Estonia whould win the war.

I really support these ambitions, because they look toughest between Baltic states, but in my opinion that is way too optimistic. In some aspects i think even Poland would have problems to accomplish this kind of reorganization. Of course we just have to wait till 2018 and see for ourself.

All people/countries that are neighbours to Russia/Soviet are all automatically anti Russia/Soviet and that is because all other countries are Democratic states/countries, they want to build a nation upon their good solid beliefs, not shit and other stuff like in Russia. The only true defence of the Baltics is from Germany, if 50.000 German troops with tanks (Leopard 2) would station in Estonia it would be good the Estonians would welcome them.

122mm D-30 howitzer is not today!! It's sights are WW2. Maximum range of 14-15km. is too short to be the brigade artillery system. It could be used in a suporting role to the 155mm FH-70 howitzer as a light howitzer in the 1st. Inf. Brig. but stil it weights 3,2tons, this means 4-5t truck has to carry it. The deployment is completly manual, its tripod legs have to be hammered in to the ground, sacrificing the mobility and speed needed for the shoot & scoop tactics used by the Suurtükiväegrupp.

Estonia defense ministry have conform hollowing future equipment for army 2008 - 2018 :
Tank Battalion ( about 40 tanks )
Infantry Fighting Vehicles or new APCs ( for entire Brigade, so about 180 units )
D 30 122 mm Howitzer - 36 units from Finland
Medium range SAM system ( about 99% from Finland Buk M1 3 batteries (9+9 firing units)
Transport Helicopters
and lots of minor equipment.
Estonia will spent for 3 billion dollars for future equipment 2008 - 2018.

Although this video is only a fictional vision! - there are indeed some elements which are becoming reality as the time goes on. The artillery, tanks, IFVs, APCs, helicopters, and medium range air-defense are one of the examples.
