sexual reproduction was a strategy that microbes developed in the early phases of this planets biology and then was adapted by most (but not all) the branches of life that have evolved since. It's a strictly utilitarian method for generating genetic diversity. Thats its only function. In animals that have complex brains and thus emotions the basic drive for sexual behavior is interwoven with many other aspects of the neural patterns of each individuals brain creating. . .yet more diversity.
So, then the question is...why sex between a male and a female? Why sex at all? How and when did sex become necessary? Could it be that sex was created by A CREATOR? And if the mating of two males does not evolve; if two males mating cannot reproduce, how will the species survive? It seems to me, through simple logic, that unless one is heterosexual or bisexual, humans will become extinct.

Antagonistic sexual selection is observed and established in evolution and it has nothing to do with two genders mating, but instead increasing the fitness of one gender over the other. So, homosexuality is more likely a byproduct of a trait that increase fitness of the opposite gender. It isn't associated with reproduction, but an effect from another trait. That's why it continues.
If, through continual--call it what you want: marriage or partnership--same sex mating results in men becoming genetically capable of bearing children, the future human could be both male and female, which would eliminate the need for two different sexes with the species. But isn't that the way humans evolved in the first place? Don't all species begin by being asexual, but, through evolution, evolve into sexual creatures.
You gave a very clear and intelligent argument, which impresses me immensely. That being said, I think you didn't think enough about God and evolution--in particular, Darwin's feelings about Natural Selection--and apply them toward homosexuality. It is no secret that the propagation of the human species is dependent upon male/female mating; however, not enough time has evolved to determine the future use and need for females within the species.

Morality is entirely made up and constantly changes and evolves to suit the need of the society which is also entirely just made up. You're right, again, there is no evidence for genetic homosexuality, but there is evidence for environmental factors in the womb influencing sexuality. I do think you are wrong about preference, some times environmental factors create no choice. I experienced attraction to girls early, and an attraction to boys later. I made a choice to stay with girls because of experience and training. I could have chose boys, but I didn't, because I felt I didn't really have a choice.

Also, Scripture isn't sexist, it simply defines the roles of man and woman working together in unity with God. They each have roles in home and roles in church. The fear of Homosexuality might actually be evolutionary. As a gay dude I notice that alot of straits seem to operate on the assumption that heteroness is some kind of universal default condition that everybody starts with and a few 'stray from'. There are genes for shorter tempers genes for risk taking so there could very well be a gene for homosexuality. Not to mention, in a human, there are 46 chromosomes.

The word "preference" implies that one could just as easily like something else. Sexuality however doesn't really work that way except in the case of bisexuality. When you say you can "boil it down" to preference you are skipping attraction which comes before preference. So if we boil it down to attraction it becomes clear that there must be some biological component at the heart of sexuality.

Whether or not you like a certain vegetable is predicated on your having tried said vegetable, sexuality on the other hand is predicated on attraction. Attraction happens long before actual contact. Thus preference doesn't even factor in at least initially. I can appreciate that you've spent time thinking about this but you are simply wrong in your conclusion. Hey theoreticalbullshit, I totally understand what you are saying about preference but when you say there's no evidence at all for homosexuality to be innate or rather inborn I have to call you out. There is no rock solid proof as of yet but the evidence is certainly there and is mounting. I can't provide links in the comment section but I can tell you that if you google "evidence for homosexuality" you'll find hundreds of links that might serve to enlighten you on the subject a bit.
There is some studies that do try to show that people can be "born" with an alternative sexual preference but it's not due to genes, it's due to the environment during the gestation process. Something about hormones and a woman's immune system and such. I don't know how these studies have panned out, and at least in fruit flies, via genetic manipulation, sexual preference can be changed.

Antagonistic sexual selection is observed and established in evolution and it has nothing to do with two genders mating, but instead increasing the fitness of one gender over the other. So, homosexuality is more likely a byproduct of a trait that increase fitness of the opposite gender. It isn't associated with reproduction, but an effect from another trait. That's why it continues.

The very core stories found in all these religions, including Islam, (creation, flood, eden) originated with the first Mesopotamian civilization..who were polytheistic. I so much prefer a moral problem to a REAL one. And yes homo's most certainly do have kids. I have a friend who has 4. Being attracted to the same gender and being able to reproduce are to completely different things. If I want children I am totally capable of inserting my penis in a vagina and ejaculating into it and impregnating a woman. But I have absolutely no physical or emotional attraction to her. I'd be like a robot-just doing it.

In fact let me save you your whole rant: Homosexuality is just like left handedness-it works exactly the same as right handedness only in reverse. That's it. that's all there is to it. And like dexterity no body knows why people develope a preference for one gender over the other or in some instances equally to both(like being ambidexterous), but it all works the same way and has exactly the same intrinsic meaning which is to say, none at all. I know this is an old video, so somebody has probably already clarified this point, but just in case, I'd just like to point out that there is a difference between a marriage and a civil union. Yes, a marriage can be a civil union, but a civil union can never be a marriage.
Marriages are acknowledged everywhere, but civil unions are not. What's more, civil unions do not enjoy the same legal or financial protections -- taxes, insurance, pensions.
Probably why it's more than "just a status".

You're right, again, there is no evidence for genetic homosexuality, but there is evidence for environmental factors in the womb influencing sexuality. I do think you are wrong about preference, some times environmental factors create no choice. I experienced attraction to girls early, and an attraction to boys later. I made a choice to stay with girls because of experience and training. I could have chose boys, but I didn't, because I felt I didn't really have a choice.

As a gay dude I notice that alot of straits seem to operate on the assumption that heteroness is some kind of universal default condition that everybody starts with and a few 'stray from'. They honestly don't get that a person's sense of attraction to others-how ever its formed and to who ever its toward-is innate and hard wired. When I hit adolescence I felt what I felt, same as hetero people. I didn't give it any thought or make a 'decision' about it, it was just there. It's all I ever known.

Although there is no evidence for genetic homosexuality, there is reason why we don't know yet. Out of the Human Gnome, we have only ATTEMPTED to piece together what 2% of a chromosome means. The Human Gnome project found the codes for the entire chromosome, of a single person. There leaves a lot of wiggle room to find a "gay gene". There are genes for shorter tempers genes for risk taking so there could very well be a gene for homosexuality. Not to mention, in a human, there are 46 chromosomes.

Argh! I sat through this waiting to hear his insights into the genetic aspect of sexuality and he had nothing to say. What he had to say was actually more incorrect than correct. Researchers haven't found a "gay" gene yet, but the leading researcher believes it exists and he believes he knows approximately where in the genome it resides. It would have been interesting to hear from an evolutionary standpoint what the usefulness of a gay gene would be. Could it be a recessive mutation?

The word "preference" implies that one could just as easily like something else. Sexuality however doesn't really work that way except in the case of bisexuality. When you say you can "boil it down" to preference you are skipping attraction which comes before preference. So if we boil it down to attraction it becomes clear that there must be some biological component at the heart of sexuality.

Something about hormones and a woman's immune system and such. I don't know how these studies have panned out, and at least in fruit flies, via genetic manipulation, sexual preference can be changed.

The reasoning behind homosexuality being a sin is because it is a relationship of death. God is God of life not death. Satan is and sin is of death. What do I mean by that? Two men or two woman can not reproduce period. That means the relationship ends in death. That is why God is against it and because it goes against nature itself.

No offense, but if you want to go with that then how about people who are sterile? Even if they are straight they can't have children. Should they not be aloud to fall in love and get married? How about those with mental disabilities who would not be capable of having or taking care of children. Guess they aren't aloud to be in a relationship either then? Also, technically saying homosexuality is against nature isn't really true as it's been recorded in many species of animals.

Secondly, the situations you described are not the same as homosexual situations. The situations you describe are of folks that don't have any say so. Being sterile is not the same as chosing to have sex. And so you understand, it is allowed not aloud.

@trialsze No, but the point I was making was that you can't say it's against nature as it does happen in nature. We are technically animals by the way, humans are considered mammals. I don't believe homosexual people have any say in it either, but you'll disagree with me on that I'm sure. We get an explanation why everything else that is sinful is sin, why not this as well? My apologies for my mistaken grammar, never my strongest area.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I did upset you or anything. That wasn't my intent, I was just trying to make a point that I thought that was a poor example. In the end I'm probably not going to change your mind and you certainly aren't going to change mine, so let's just agree to disagree, yes? I really don't like debating so I should have just held my tongue. Wither it is a sin or not God has called us to love and respect thy neighbor. We all sin. Gay people are no worse or better then the rest of us.

@TopazRaven It is against nature. The one rule that goes for all species is procreation of that species. You don't see monkeys, lions, or any other species mating with the same sex for life. It doesn't work that way. Nature itself, since I can tell you don't believe in God, makes it impossible for two of the same sex in any species to mate and reproduce. That is fact and that is where death comes from. If we were all homosexuals then the species would die out. That is death.

What? Um, no...I'm pretty sure I was giving an argument about why I thought being gay wasn't sinful or immoral. My computer isn't letting me look back at the older comments for some reason, but I don't have anything against homosexuls and think they have every right to be together if that's what they want, so I can't see myself writing anything to give off the impression I thought they were immoral.

@trialsze When you say "you don't see monkeys, lions or any other species" do you mean you as in yourself or you as in all of us? The reason I ask is because homosexuality in other species is well documented. Find a copy of "Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity" if you'd like to brush up a bit. This book examines around 450 diferent species that have been documented by science to exibit homosexual behaviors.

@TheMartini1234 Sounds like psuedo-science to me. I know many in the psychiatric community that has a very contradictory belief on that. May I be so bold to ask, is your Dad married to Michelle Bachmann? Even if it is a "defect", if a person is born with a bad limb, does that person keep trying to use it because everyone can use theirs? If a person is born gay, do they keep trying to be straight?
