@1randomminute Because of inconsistency of the water density from minerals in the water and a shifting imbalance of the aerodynamics of the ice cubes, the upthrust from the water resistance will push the ice cubes in specific directions, if you had perfect ice cubes that melted in an equal time frame with pure water then they may stay still, but because of the way heat dissipates, spinning ice will remain. Also something to do with the bowl, but I'll be fudged if I know about crockery.

The pressure and weight the cubes at the top push the mass in the direction with the least weight on....
