when you zero this site in, can you then move the numbers on the dial to zero? That way you can have it at zero at 100 yards and then see your setting instead of counting your clicks?
@WiDeathMachine No. keep in mind this isn't meant to be used like a long range magnified optic. Just like with a Aimpoint or EOTech, it's designed to be set for a specific range and left alone. Because it has adjustment knobs that resemble target towers on a magnified optic people get confused as to their purpose.
Posted on your Chinese-made computer, monitor, and keyboard. Aimpoint is the only company putting out a high grade, war proven red dot these days. Too many of the EOTech have shit the bed in their service history for me to ever trust them for something other than range duty.
Thanks dude. I just ordered the HD7 and the magnifier. $215 shipped! Going to look great on my new 10.5" ASA SBR. Currently configured as a pistol while I wait for my paperwork to come back(also thank you for your video on that). I'm glad this channel is taking off for you. I remember when you were just doing simple videos and posting them on TFL. Cheers!
Picked one up based on this review. It was tough to zero at first: I had run out of left windage ajdustment. Only then did I play with the elevation (clicked up), and the dot went up AND left, on a 45 angle. Then I moved the dot back down and it stayed left! Strange! This allowed me to get a zero where I want it, but those controls are freaky. I imagine if I had to make adjustments all day I would go crazy. For now, I'm happy with a 50 yd zero that stays througout cycling the other reticles.
after watching this, i was wondering if it would hold up on a armalite ar-10 carbine, you think it would be a good choice mainly for range play with one of the maginifiers? if you could do a video of it on a scar 17 or similar .308 rifle that would help. if you have a suggestion for a different optic, please give advice thanks
Thanks for setting up what is about $80 less than MSRP. X-Mas is coming and this' gonna be picked up, how long is the discount code gonna last? Trying to decide if I can wait a few weeks and order for X-Mas, or if it's gonna be a short lived discount? APPRECIATE IT ALL GOOD SIR! P.S. These are the 2nd gen HD7's right? And can you attach a kill-flash or ARD on this? Thanks
@reeseman67 The discount will run for at least month or so according to 3RP. This is the second generation sight, so yes - the objective lens side is threaded for accessories.
@Sturmgewehre Muchos Gracias...err.. Danke! Appreciate it, gonna be beating that deadline which's good, cause thats like a $40 discount which we DO ALL APPRECIATE!!
@Sturmgewehre Ordered up one of these bad boys, and a 2X magnifier just for fun till I get either a Lucid 3X or 2X-5X magnifier, (EXCITED!!) on Saturday, $210-ish for the whole shebang!! Talked with the designer/owner Jason and am REALLY impressed by both the product AND the C.S. BEFORE I even have the thing! Thank's for setting up the deal, basicall got a 2x magnifier for FREE!!! THANK YOU STURMGEWEHRE!! Now I can keep saving for the Aimpoint M4, but still have a quality optic in the meantime!
I'm currently running an Eotech 511, and was considering the Sparc as it's smaller, lighter, and cheaper. This looks like a very cool option, but for an SAWC nazi like me the weight of the HD7 kind of kills it.
Great review my friend....just checked out lucid's web site...I see they have ADM mounts...so I wouldn't be surprised if a QD version is in the works....in someones mind....
just a little humor to add...
What did that poor rifle do to be abused like that....LOL...HAHAHAHA.
Hey Sturm, I know you probably get a million of these a day but I was wondering if you'd consider doing a review of the laminate AR15 stocks that Lucid makes. They are wood finish and I thought you might find them interesting, they are available at Brownells. Thanks for reposting the ACR vs SCAR vids by the way, definitely a favorite. Cheers
Looks like a great sight and at a great price. Excellent review, nothing less than what I come to expect from you my friend. Thanks for the heads up and the price break, much appreciated. God bless.
@BTeamHooligan It depends on the application. If I were mounting a RDS on an AK, I would go with the SPARC. If I wanted to mount a RDS to a M4, ACR, SCAR, or similar rifle, I would go with the HD7. The HD7 has limited mounting options, that being the mount it comes with. The SPARC allows you to use any mount that the Aimpoint T-1 Micro uses. So you have more options with the SPARC.
@Sturmgewehre another fantastic review! I have a bit of an urgent question for you. i'm debating on whether i should purchase this RDS or the Strikefire. This sight seemed very promising, but is almost 70 dollars more than the SF. the SF also comes standard with the 2X magnifier, high and low mounts, and lens covers. The RDS will be going on my SHTF ar-15. So do you think i should pony up the extra 50 or so dollars, or will the Strikefire get the job done just as good?
@ashley17067 The only reason i bother asking is because both you and nutnfancy seemed to gave the Strikefire high praise, and great value for the money.
i value your opinion the most as far as gear reviews go so i hope you can help me with my dilemma.
@forrest225 Not all sights are created equal. If I dropped a Burris FastFire like that, it would stop working. The FastFire is also at the $200 price point.
How would you compare this to the Vortex Strikefire you recently reviewed? What would you say are a couple features that make one better than the other? Thanks for your reviews.
Did you get a new camera? The rifle sounds different than your previous videos. Great review and video as usual Sturm, please keep up the fantastic work!
i used to have an Aimpoint compML2, and loved it. gave it to my brother and had been thinking of replacing it with an eotech, however... this looks like a much better choice!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I am currently leading a group buy and build party here in CA for 6 AR-15s and most of the guys want budget builds with red dots!!! Definitely forwarding this review!!!
@JWnFL Thanks, and thanks for watching. Believe me, I would like nothing more than to move to Florida. But unfortunately we have a big family here where I live and leaving them right now just aint gonna happen. But I can dream!
@FutureFederalAgent Hey, I buy this stuff too! Misery loves company. :) Look on the bright side, you can't take your money with you when you die so you might as well buy cool stuff while you're here to play with.
@Sturmgewehre Lol, I have a feeling sometime within the next 5 years ill be broke and living under a bridge, mind you ill have plenty of guns and tactical gear but still under a bridge
@backdraft216 I just wanted to chime in here so MAC does not get a bad rap etc. We have never paid MAC for a review. We have sold him some gear at cost, and only requested if he does a review just to give us a shout out, and we would try to offer some good discount's to his viewers. " He it made it perfectly clear to us that he would not be paid for reviews. He said he would lose all credibility to get paid to do a review.. I hope this helps out. Brian @ 3RP
@3RiversPrecision Thanks Brian. Obviously I'm not afraid to give a product a bad review, check out my recent Surefire MAG5-60 review. If it works, I say so. If it doesn't, I say so. I lose nothing by being honest because I don't get paid by manufacturers or retailers. That's the beauty of YouTube, you get paid for ads that run with your videos and views. But when I find something I really like, like this HD7, and if I can swing a discount for our viewers, I will. It's the least I can do.
@DemonHide I got meprolight tritiums for my AK. They are sturdy, fast, reliable. It is the best thing I did for my AK, and although pricey they are worth every penny.
I really like the videos, very informative, I just hope you are being truthful about not geting any kick backs or compensation from 3rivers. Have you ever turned down reviewing a product for them because it didnt meet your standard, or possibly your viewers or gave something a bad review? Im not trying to be rude or disrepectful, I am just a cautious consumer.
@backdraft216 The only revenue I make is from video views and Adsense. I will never take money from any manufacturer or retailer. 3RP is local to me and we've gotten to know each other. Brian heard how much I liked the HD7 because of a Facebook post I made and called to get setup with LUCID because of my strong opinion it was good kit. He is doing MAC viewers a favor by doing the Promo. Google LUCID HD7, try to find a bad review. That's why I ordered one to test, people love them.
after watching your vids...I bought a Midwest ak Handguard with US Palm/MWI T1/Vortex top mount..I mounted vortex sparcs on Draco Ak pistol, but after 100rds, Red dot flew of because of Heat/recoil, stripped out red dot mount holes...I sent it back to Vortex and they sent me brand new replacement..I probably going to replace top with MWI 30mm aimpoint mount with vortex strikefire
I got burned few times buying these cheap Chinese knockoff optics and have promised myself never to buy this stuff again. While this thing seems to have performed OK in tests, I have serious doubts how it will perform few months or years from now. I'm not rich and don't have the cash to throw around on optics every 6 months so I prefer to save money and buy quality stuff with a good warranty.
@sniper4usmc It depends. If you want the ability to mount it to an AK fore end rail, go with the SPARC. If you want to mount it a sight to a 1913 rail like that of an AR, SCAR or ACR then the HD7 makes sense. But if you have a special application that requires a higher or lower mount, or something with a flexible mount, the HD7 won't work.
LOL, I sent an email to Jason about 2 hours ago about getting some of these. Thanks for your "working mans" Red Dot reviews. My old eyes need optics but I never wanted to spend $1000, I would of rather bought another $1000.00 rifle. Thanks again for the great reviews!!!
Your red dot reviews are the only reason I haven't given up on getting one! I'm still planning on getting quality tritium irons for my AK, I'd be more comfortable then relying partially on a battery-powered electric device with co-witness. And I appreciate that you value co-witness as an important point. I do too, and I can only see an exception if it can be removed quickly just in case.
Looks like a great optic for the money. I hate the idea of relying fully on batteries for my optics though. I'm kind of a fan of the Burris AR-332 prism sights but the eye relief is too short for my taste and I've yet to test it's ruggedness.
you are actually throwing down a loaded rifle ????

sniper4usmc 3 months ago

Great review, like usual. Thanks

No magnification for such a huge *and possibly heavy?) sight? Ugh, I'd prefer a small T1 over this huge thing any day.

Thanks for the info. Probably a decent option for those of us that can't afford the high end sights.

Looks like a great optic for the money. I hate the idea of relying fully on batteries for my optics though. I'm kind of a fan of the Burris AR-332 prism sights but the eye relief is too short for my taste and I've yet to test it's ruggedness.
