Damn, i really like that. I love Art, i just started piano and finally i can clear "The Entertainer " just an simple song. But im teaching myself piano, so first im training on the simple songs, and when i understand the piano im planning to go on jazz. It really touch me, my main music is rap, like Bone Thugs N harmony, Tupac, Biggie Etc, but still jazz is in my heart. But great props. Still Oscar Peterson is my hero since my name is Oscar Pieter in dutch:P In english it is also Oscar Peterson.
Again, you make me sick. You are so frigging talented and make it look so effortless. I have a hard time just typing, but you, Mister Bouncy fingers, just do as you please.
Hey hey hey, thi is Art Tatum - original! And all played on a small mickey-mouse-piano! Fantastic! Imagine, how it would sound on a baby grand piano - wow!
All the best and happy new year from a german Tatum fan!
Holy Toledo! Terry, you are incredible. WHY aren't you playing a real piano? And why no recording contract? Surely, if no one else wants to, you could burn and distribute your own CDs, and make a fortune!
Great piano player, indeed, Art's heir apparent no. Remember, Art improvised those harmonies instantaneously - those arrangements came to Art at the speed of light. This guy merely transcribed Art's thoughts and played them. Despite that fact, he is still amazing!
Of course you are correct. I was overly enthusiastic when I first saw this video. I have played Tatum transcriptions (and they are, for me extremely challenging) and to see someone play Tatum in an 'effortless" manner is stunning. I would enjoy seeing harriter88 do his own interpretation of some jazz standards to see how his own style compares to what he does here.
I just wanted to repeat those same sentiments that everyone else already mentioned, this was amazing to wathc, you move so gracefully up & down, very impressive, you do Art Tatum justice
when you transcribed, out of curiousity, what did you use to slow down the lines? also, (I'm transcribing a decent amount myself), what do you suggest in terms of hearing chords / clusters etc?
My feeling exactly ("one of the greatest Musical Beings that ever walked the Earth") Do you have any of the Solo Masterpiece Albums? In Vol 8 he does another variation of Sweet Lorraine...(there are probably more). For me it's always been total eargasims listening to Art.Looking forward to your Love For Sale Pinkie
Absolutely beautiful..Moon Song is such a sweet tune ... love the way you lay back on it with time. You nail all his great licks and still keep your own special nuance throughout. Will you play Sweet Lorriane for us..?
Can you do 'East St Louis Blues' a la Tatum? I used to have a copy of it on a tape but have lost the tape and have never heard it since, I'm gutted since it was by far my favourite Tatum peice. You really are a fantastic player by the way, it's truly humbling to hear!
Wow, very impressive, i bet to play art tatum is harder than some of the more difficult chopin etude by a long way, you should try play tatums tea for two, then you will be really able to show off to the extreme
Do you use software like "Transcribe" (e.g to slow down the pitches) to help you transcribe Tatum's solos? Is that how you ensure its 100% note perfect?
Hey, lots of respect, great work. Would even sound better with a real piano, but on the other hand who cares? I am a big fan of Art Tatum and I can tell that I would love to see and hear you play some more of his pieces. What about "Tea for Two", "Humoresque", "Danny Boy" or the fuckin fast, stride like "Tiger Rag"?
the 20 dislikes are 20 jealous sour grapes cause this is just amazing and on a par with AT's own recording

Has this person recorded yet? Who is he?
Also, my Youtube is breaking up every 10 seconds. How can I remedy this?

I only have one question sir... are you a real human being? Because certainly your playing is something out of this world!!!
Several times I had heard people say playing piano is something, but playing Tatum is just plain crazy. Now I see why.
Such a beautiful rendition to a fantastic jazzist. Very very pleasant to both listen to, and watching :D

Stop trading on Tatum's name - you don't need to. I've rarely heard better in nearly seventy years.

You are the heir apparent to Tatum.
The sad thing is that genius like yours is not recognized by the l.c.d. driven society we live in. Instead we are treated to "American Idol"
Keep up the awesome work !
