i wanna buy that bass player a beer...or what ever he wants...i LOVE THIS SONG and to hear it with a bit of funk makes it sound like silk! this is the version ill listen to from here on!
Saw her in Biloxi in '80, was blown away by her, always loved her music, but to see her on stage, what a night. She was "It" back in the day, nothing can compare to her in today's music.
When this came out in 1980, very few people in New York City had cable TV. I paid a guy at an electronics store $20 for a BETAMAX tape of this concert!
Love Dugmore's "slow burn" at 4:01. You just don't hear something that effective, yet simple anymore. The play between Dugmore and Kortchmar is awesome and really compliments the song. Of course Glaub's solo is right on. One of the best live versions of her stuff she ever did. Of course, being a drummer, my all-time favorite Russ Kunkell mans the skins. Doesn't hurt to have the great Billy Payne from Little Feat on Keyboards. And how often do you see the manager in the show. Way to go Peter!
@Seaclam67 EBow, baby! And more cowbell! Linda was just the ultimate total package - the voice, the material, the players, the production and, God knows, The Look! If you get the chance, don't miss Anne McCue live and you will hear guitar that effective - she can play that Rock'n'Roll!
Hey Linda! I couldn't have put it better my self. If I didn't know this song was written years ago, I'd swear it was written about a fat loser from Puerto Rico! LOL
OMG!! I have been looking for this performance of You're No Good for decades. I saw it on HBO and have always loved this version. Dan Dougmore and Danny Kortchmar really do well on the guitar.
Bob, I listened to it again just to hear your bass solo. Loved the descending octaves. Then watch Kootch. Just to see that bead of sweat dropped from his brow.
@Gunstar1701 I got to connect with him on Facebook and it was a thrill when he replied. He said it was thirty years ago but I told him it still sounded cool.
@Bluesdirections Ultra cool. That's the wonderful thing about recorded media. Thirty years makes no difference. I'm a guitar lover but have no musical ability what so ever. Can you imagine being on stage with those two blasting out those improvised guitar riffs? If you ever connect with him again, tell him that bass solo is an all time great.
Come on Linda!!! will you PLEASE PLEASE tour again and it would be even more amazing if you included henley, leadon, andrew gold talk about tight band my god
One of the greatest pure singers ever, and that band's not too bad either. Great memories from '80 when HBO had this on, and watched it every time it aired. Now that you've got me good & spoiled, please post the whole show...that would be tremendous!
Best female vocalist. Better then the wilson sisters and all the wantabes of today. This is fricken music!!! It's too bad she stop singing rock. The band also so kicks. Music of today is noooooo good.
AWESOME!!! I have a cassette (yes, I said cassette it's THAT old)of a radio broadcast of this concert. Where can I get a copy of this. Beautiful posting. THANK YOU.
Well I'll tell you this is one of the better versions of this song I have heard over the years - I love this extended version with guitar solo - just excellent!
LINDA RONSTADT with short hair. Many female singers cut their hair in the 1980's to look current and upto date. I prefer her long flowing 1970's hair.
Notice on these '80 Mad Love tour performances, she's much better on the new tunes (Cost of Love, Mad Love, Lies, How Do I Make You), then she is on her older, better known hits.
Thanks for uploading this. She sounds better in all the live versions of this song I've heard than in the studio version. The mark of a truly great singer. I'd love to see version of this uploaded with better sound quality.
Yeah, she could be a bit boring in concert back then sometimes....but I never minded much. She's a pure singer, not a "showy-entertainer" or theatrical-rock performer.
I agree! Discovering this beautiful artist so lately ( I should have listened to her in the '70s: watch these great unknowned musicians in the clip) reminds me to tell the people I love to do anything to love their own life.

I saw the bass solo on a advertisment for laser disc back in '81. This is the second time I've seen this video.....amazing how time flies.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Obviously this is one of those complex songs that needs a lot of studio mixing to really sound great. All the live versions don't do it justice.
