Humiliation is an attempt at soul-murder. There is nothing positive that comes from it and the people purposely trying to humiliate someone are outright sadists. Thank you for supporting understanding over patronizing.
By the way, 99% of people are sexy. If your parents weren't sexy to someone, you wouldn't have been born.
Holy shit @ 1:18. The girl on the right has a profile on OkCupid.com, and I have actually chatted with her. She actually has pictures with the same exact costume.
I have never been to Comic-Con and it's been years (Like 25) since I was really considered a nerd. I often disagree with Penn. But then I often disagree with everyone. I guess I'm just a disagreeable guy. However, on this particular point, he couldn't be more right. I mean it takes real balls to show your tits when you have a chunky ass. Maybe the late night shows should work a little harder to craft some jokes instead of going after people whom they perceive to be a little "different".
I was sad to see that my manly self wasn't included in the sexy pictures category.
Thanks for this Penn, you're seriously one of my heroes (we hung out briefly on Teller's bday some years back when I was only 16, I'm 24 now) and I am very glad you denounce all the bs "laugh at nerds" humor that otherwise funny comics resort to.
Because I'm a total geek, but I'm good looking, social, funny, and I get laid a whole lot. Always good to hear someone point this out. Much love, Penn.
People pick on easy targets, which is strange. Nerds don't, and that's why they make such great game players.
I found this Penn Point positive and not as slightly creepy as some of the others. The one about the woman singing about wanting to have sex with someone (or whatever) was mildly disturbing.
I've never been to comic con, but I go to ren faires a lot. The ren faire is portrayed the same as comic con; only nerds go there. I'm not a nerd, hell, I dont even know if I was correct to use a semi-colon in my last sentence. My point is though, people go to these places to have fun. If you're too stuck up to go to a place like comic con or the ren faire, maybe you're the loser. If you dont go because those places aren't your cup of tea, thats different. But dont be prejudice.
@bleunt heh. I remeber watchin Private Parts back in a day and seeing him in that fart-man costume and thinkin it was birlliant. I guess this it what they call irony.
*End of Penn's rant* - Or just say thank you. "Oh. You think I'm going to have a much better success rate in the future then you? Well aren't you sweet..."
@SeriouslyPissedOff I was considering going on about how you're wrong, even though your entitled to your own opinion, and then I looked at your profile. Your head is stuck so far up your own ass that you can't hear the world around you. This world is being lead by those who would consider themselves to be geeks. The chances of a high school football player and a kid from the chess team becoming a success in life are so astronomically different it's sad. Go learn some humility, then insult me.
@Fragacide HAHAHA You believe the world is lead by "geeks"? HA! Hahaha! Ha! Look, I know you're probably just a green boy, but still recognize that you know very little of the world around you. I'd feel confident in saying that you've probably never left your hometown. Why? The world isn't run by geeks. It's run by bullies. Every aspect of a "geek"s personality makes them unfit to rule. Weakness, timidness, intelligence. All qualities lacking in world leaders. Go to bed.
@SeriouslyPissedOff By the way... Nice job at actually making a point. */sarcasm*
If you're going to be a dick and fling offensive words at people, the least you can do is back up your claims and describe why you think what I said was "retarded and stupid." If you ask me, a comment lacking any reasoning and all flaming is a troll comment. That makes you the troll, and I'm not too fond of idiots trolling youtube.
@Fragacide So you want a chance at redeeming yourself? That's fine, better than accepting shame I guess. Briefly yet thoroughly describe the "much better success rate in the future".
@SeriouslyPissedOff Ok, one example, I can't hold your hand through all this. CareerBuilder's website did a survey with 6,000 full time employees. Each was asked to classify their "clique" or social group that they belonged to; student government, athlete, geek, honor society, cheerleader, drama club, teacher's pet, or class clown. Geeks and honor students were more likely to hold secure positions. Athletes tended to lean towards transportation. Meaning geeks tend to be more successful in life.
@Fragacide Hahahaha! It's cute but I'm afraid you can't use data to back up a case that is entirely intangible. It's an insult to facts. You could argue that "geeks" have a higher chance of getting a job or "secure positions" Whatever the fuck that means lmao. How does this data, in any way, mean that the individual is "more successful in life." It doesn't. What you didn't know was that they are still virgins. And only GEEKS USE CAREERBUILDER so that data is FAIL (Like your sex life.)
@SeriouslyPissedOff You're really going to keep being a dick aren't you? I said it was one example. I never claimed any facts. I simply stated that those who would classify themselves as geeks in high school tend to grow up to become richer and have better job security then the jocks. It's just a survey... don't take it so literally. High school athletes grow up to work maintenance, geeks become engineers. Good luck flipping burgers ya meathead. Don't you have a cousin to be dating?
@SeriouslyPissedOff What do I know of the real world? I know it's not fair. I know you have to work to become something in life. I know assholes like you get yourselves killed. I use to be a dick like you, but then I got stabbed, nearly died... they stuck a tube up my dick, man... If you don't watch your attitude, you'll end up the same way. You'll smart off to the wrong person, and hopefully they pull a knife like they did with me and not a gun. Good luck, cuz you give atheists a bad name.
@SeriouslyPissedOff I know more about the real world then you could ever imagine, and I wish I didn't. Revel in your ignorance, because I envy you and your simple way of thinking. BTW: Don't make such stupid accusations such as "you watch too much TV" when you know nothing about that person. I watch roughly 4-5 hours of television a week. Mostly Disco, Science, and Nasa channels. Once again, you're wrong and you've made yourself look stupid. Now, I'm done with you. Anything else will be ignored.
@Fragacide Dude you're transparent as Fuck Hahahahaha!!!!! You don't know shit. You're such a little greenboy trying to take comfort in your identity as a geek. You know you're a fag though. And you know I'm right. And it pisses you off, that's why you can't help but turn away and run from what I say.
@Fragacide Way to go all 4chan on me and reinforce your faggotry. If your gayness was a castle, your ignorance would be your garrison, your sexuality or lack thereof your empty and gatorless moat, and your solid iron wall of faggotry to protect what little quality of inhabitants reside inside.
@TyRiders2 Really? And your condescending piece of shit comment wasn't intended to reinforce your own likely feeble masculinity? At least now I know why you're pissed off. You too just 4ch'd the fuck out on me again. People with no content tend to do that.
@SeriouslyPissedOff I really don't need content with dumbfucks like you. You seem to pretend you're intellectual by spitting out incoherent gibberish and try to pass it off as intelligence. Keep trying
@TyRiders2 As if you could control your flow of content. You wear it on your sleeve. It's hard to regulate what you don't even have. [Translation: You ain't got shit, son.] The reason you view me as trying to be intellectual and it comes off as gibberish to you is because you're retarded in comparison. I'm not the least bit "intellectual" or intelligent it just seems that way to you because you're a dolt. [Translation: Boy, you're so retarded I have to add translations to my shit.]
@TyRiders2 I will openly and lovingly admit I am a complete dumbass any day. Because it's true. Seriously. It's really flattering that you'd even think of me as an "intellectual" at all. You're simply viewed as a belligerent though. There's no excuse for even replying to my comment other than really wanting a verbal slamming. You'd have to be offended by something I said. Maybe hating on 4chan flipped on your hater switch and you lost all control. And that's weird, because 4chan is pretty gay.
@SeriouslyPissedOff Using a word with malice typically has a moral undertone to it - that someone being a 'fag' or 'gay' is a bad thing. If you were not implying that, that's great. However, that's how I've interpreted your comments so far and in my interpretation of it (which may be wrong) I have to wholeheartedly disagree. AFAIK it is not appropriate or honest to use a sexual orientation in a derogatory way as it is something which cannot be avoided by the individual.
@slaughtz Of course not. I'll tell you a funny story though since it's on topic. While I was attending middle school I learned the word "gay and "fag" and thought they were hilarious. As a group of school bullies we began calling EVERYONE a fag and gay. It became such a problem for school officials that my state senator tried to pass a bill to ban it. (Stacey Campfied) "don't say gay" if you care to research. It is derogatory yes, but not hateful to the label..the words just sound so damn funny
@SeriouslyPissedOff Okay. I would encourage you to find other words to use derogatorily towards someone and also to avoid resorting to such sadistic things as humiliating someone where possible, especially when they have done nothing heinous enough to warrant that kind of treatment.
@slaughtz So you're gay? Right? Of course. I totally understand where you're coming from when you say that thanks to my unfortunate legislative experience with the words and their uses. But I wonder if you understand me when I say..."It's already too late."
@SeriouslyPissedOff I'm not entirely sure of what you're saying but I'm not really interested in continuing this conversation either. Thanks for clarifying earlier and all the best.
@slaughtz Haha! Basically saying that you can't tell people not to say a word that has already had a new meaning so deeply rooted into a culture. It's just impossible. There has to be a different approach.
Howard Stern does it too. I think it is a generational thing. They act like the people who attend don't have jobs and spend all of their time going to conventions And all of them fail to realize that attendees have day jobs and after a hard day of coding at work they don't come home sit on there ass and watch the bachelor. They labor and create then use their vacation time to show off their hard work.
Every time I watch one of these I'm more and more convinced Penn is one of the nicest guys on the planet and I'd love to know him in real life and just hang out some times. He's real, he's humble, he's honest and even when I disagree with him, you have to admire his attitude in general. You know even if he disagrees with you, he's still gonna treat you with respect.
The girls who dress up at comic con are the most beautiful women on the earth. I go to the cons in costume and most of them are really sweet. You rock, Penn.
Penn, geeks make fun of each other just as much. It pretty much part of the culture. When South Park did the show about World of Warcraft that showed players as fat and sloppy. The WoW players loved it. (I loved it too) As long as it is done in the right way. it is fine.
I don't think we really mind being made fun of. Who do you think were the people who watched Galaxy Quest? That whole movie was making fun of us and it was great.
i have read comics all my life ( i am 43), i play d&d, and i love fantasy & sci-fi. i have never been a nerd or a geek, nor have i ever been called one. i have been called a dirty hippie, a freak and a rebel but like all labels none really fits. misfit power is where it's at.
@zendishwasher2 I'm 21, and while I don't read comics, I do enjoy everything else. I've been jokingly called a geek whenever people see me and my friends in public playing Magic the Gathering or DnD (3.5). However, I've played football as the center/nose guard, so people never really see me as a geek except when they actually see me doing those things. I've got a carelessly grown in beard that does give me the hippie comment a lot. I'm happy I got into it all when I did and not more in the past.
@Fragacide i am a small type guy but i played football back in the day as a tackle. havent really played magic the gathering but my step kids all have. i did however beat the yugiho forbidden realms video on ps1. i played d&d originally on paper but now i play online in eberron( join my guild jinxed blood on the kybher server). i love tomb raider, final fantasy and kingdom hearts. the best rpg ever is vagrant story on ps1. i have read plato, homer, herodotus and plutarch for fun.
I think it's a lot easier being a geek/nerd/what have you today. In some ways, I feel I've missed the boat. If I were 10 years younger than I am now, I think my life would be a lot more fulfilling than it was, well, 10 years ago when being a geek was only just starting to become something worth parading around.
What I really don't get is these people go to comicon, something that is branded by the people there and even those insulting it as a "nerd gathering" - yet going there makes all of these companies and tv shows, and all kinds of pop culture people a TON of money and exposure - then they insult it for being.. a nerd gathering, which is what it is.
I don't go to an Italian restaurant and then make fun of the people there for being Italian. Bad analogy, but you get the idea.
You'd be surprised about how nerds in Japan became romantic. It all happened from this nerd who defended a girl who was being harassed by a drunk guy on a train (it became a movie and everything). Cute story and it's kind of cool seeing the nerds become the heroes of today.
FUCK YOU HATERS... I AM NERD! EVERYTHING COOL YOU ALL LIKE CAME FROM COMICS OR SCI-FI id love to go to comic con my buddy who is a chopper mechanic for the military goes every year he dresses up and has a great time. to many people take themselves way to seriously drop the ego have fun live laugh love and for love of humanity stop hateing... please. penn you rock man cant wait for the disco show to hit. you a great human being and i for one love ya bro. teller should make an appearence here ;-)
I've often found the chubbier, bigger breasted, ladies in costumes at science fiction conventions and comic-con a lot sexier than the models TV thinks I would find sexy. Lucky me. And yes, a lot of sex has happened for me at sci-fi cons.
Thanks Penn :) even for me as a non comic con go-er (im from the Netherlands) but am a nerd, thank you for the uplifting words man :) Much appreciated
Penn...I openly wept at the story about your Dad in your book. I read it all in one sitting, it was captivating. I laughed, and I cried, and I loved every minute of it.
@pennpoint that movie was Batman Begins(Batman Returns had the peguin & catwoman).
The guy just said I swear to God Batman replies with "SWEAR TO ME!!" Good job though . It was a good quote.

(I loved it too) As long as it is done in the right way. it is fine.

i have read comics all my life ( i am 43), i play d&d, and i love fantasy & sci-fi. i have never been a nerd or a geek, nor have i ever been called one. i have been called a dirty hippie, a freak and a rebel but like all labels none really fits. misfit power is where it's at.
zendishwasher2 6 months ago
@zendishwasher2 I'm 21, and while I don't read comics, I do enjoy everything else. I've been jokingly called a geek whenever people see me and my friends in public playing Magic the Gathering or DnD (3.5). However, I've played football as the center/nose guard, so people never really see me as a geek except when they actually see me doing those things. I've got a carelessly grown in beard that does give me the hippie comment a lot. I'm happy I got into it all when I did and not more in the past.
Fragacide 6 months ago

@thebardqfp yep, being a geek was dangerous :)

Please do jokes about nerds. Laughing at myself is fun!
oliethefolie 6 months ago

I've often found the chubbier, bigger breasted, ladies in costumes at science fiction conventions and comic-con a lot sexier than the models TV thinks I would find sexy. Lucky me. And yes, a lot of sex has happened for me at sci-fi cons.
