  • Great demo!!!

  • I tried this with my cockateil but he made me bleed

  • @gmclarty1202 i was with you

  • The thing with my bird is that it won't take anything from me or even eat from it's own bowl when I'm around and doesn't like being anywhere near me :(

  • Your poor computer is going to have husks all over it :P Beautiful bird :3 Once mine settles in and trusts me a bit I might give this a go!

  • nice job i tried this with my tiel today we got somewhere but then the biting returned so i gave him a break i'll try again tommorow

  • Doesn't it bother you, that you are getting millet in your keyboard?

  • How cute!! She looks like my tiel Orion.

  • SEEDS ON YOUR LAPTOP! (eeevvverrryyywhere)

  • Than you so much this really helped :)

  • She's so cute! Where did you get her^^

  • I noticed that you use millet as a reward - did you stop putting it in their cage too? I'm about to start clicker training my cockatiel and I just wanted to see what you did.

  • I bet you had a mess on your laptop keyboard afterward? :D

  • Thank you for posting this!! How long did it take for her to be this calm with you?

I have a 3 1/2 year old male who was parent raised & taken care of by a few people before me. He also has a huge fear of hands, so I'm just trying to get an idea of how long this process could take (I know it'll probably take a while with him).

  • I am thinking of getting a cockatiel and have a few questions. Do they bite harder than parakeets? How can you tell if its male or female? Thank you! :)

  • @CandyAllthetime5 yes they have a beak parakeets dont their beak is to small but a cockatiel can make u bleed its a matter of patience taming an trust ur bird WILL stop sooner or later if u spend time with him or her an u cn't always tell but if its a year or older female it will lay eggs they aren't fertilized though without the male other wise you know its a male. 2nd males are much more vibrantly colered or there colors aren't dull they need to be pretty to get a mate thus the more pretty

  • this is a good training! But i'm waiting. Becose my bird needs to know that the candy what you give her realy good is.

  • I am going to get a cockatiel and I was just wondering, how do you tell what age they are?

  • @Tillsbest123 umm you really cant unless the person that had him tells you … but you can estimate

If the cockatiel can eat on its own then he must be 4-6 months old if he is ready to make babies then hes a year or over ...

  • So, what do you do if every time you bring your hand anywhere near you get threatened/pecked/hissed at? :/

  • First scratch portion is absolutely cute lol

  • the progress you made in just one session was astounding!! i will be getting a new cockatiel or 2 soon, ad my previous one flew away :( and these vids are a great help!!

  • What can I do if my parrrot don't really like millets as treats?? My parrot don't like touch or snacks, so what could I do with him? Please help!!

  • @Isbella789 perhaps he isn't a chow hound my pearl male is a chow hound can't get enough millet my white face male on the other hand... I can't feed him it is not that easy some birds want just VERBAL praise or just Praise in general ex. good bird, great job in a kind soft voice. OR he just doesen't trust you enough to eat from ur hand

  • wow great video!!! im gona try tis to my sweet bro alvin(cockatiel)

  • Its a female right? :D

  • my male cockatiel wont stay with me iv had him since he was 6 week old n he has changed alot he gets scared when i put my hand in he use to stay with me but now he dunt n he is biteing ? can u give me any tips because id really like him to stay with me he use to but not anymore :( its as if he dunt like me

  • good vid

  • my male cockatiel leo doesnt stay with me he is my bird and i bought him when he was 6 week old and i got him fromm a breeder n i saw him since he was boarn at first he stayed with me but now he flys around cage when i put my hand in n he never use to do and he bites n he wont stay with me i dont know why he is doing this is it because evryone is interfearing with him ?

  • Man... That is absolutely fantastic... D:

I now have motivation to get my bird rolling. It'll be hard because I've had him for like 5 years and never actually... did anything... but I have no doubts that this will help.

    Thanks a lot :D

  • @ZuWrath0 coolz let me know how that goes

  • hey i have a female and male cockateil and the male seems very calm most of the time and willing to train, but the female always makes the male very nervous by flapping around everywhere. what do i do?

  • @imtherealcolt try to separate her from him … so that he can focus on the training.. shes might try to call for him (my female does that) its distracting 4 both birds so try to keep her in another room with music playing so they cant hear eachother

  • @imtherealcolt Take male in another room. Like she did in this video. Pumkin disturbes pearl

  • He sometimes lets me touch him only for a second but its a start

  • thanks im getting better responses with my cockatiel now

  • @lperry11 awesome =)

  • you are really good and my sister and i are getting parakeets tomorrow so i cant wait to start training them

  • great vid! but my cockatiel was letting me pet its crest but it didnt put its head down. also sometimes he turns his head when im petting him and opens his beak a little when im not even hurting it. please help.

  • @LightYagami1211 ok so its a good thing you can touch your bird, i say try doing that as often as you can, at least once a day for a week straight . ..use a clicker or pen after you pet the bird( just click the end part) and give him a treat, this will let him know you wont hurt him, he will associate petting with food ( a good thing)

he opens his mouth now b/c hes nervous, sometimes they have new feathers growing that can hurt them also, so just be careful

  • Awesome trust exercise my bird Whero (W-e-rr-o)

my bird always walks away from my hand unless i have sunflower seeds i need help

  • This is so cute!

I have a female Tiel who looks just like that, and loves sitting on top of my laptop :)

I'm going to try this with her.

  • Cool i think i might train my two cockatiels to do that . Thank you for the vid

  • @pastulio007 coolz .. glad you like it

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • nice training,i couldn't believe she is trained in few minutes

  • @farsalkhan4 this is probably the fastest I have ever trained a bird

  • HI :) This is a nice video. I tried this with my cockatiel, but........ when i try to take my finger up to her, then she just moved away :( what can i do?? and i dont think i can take her out of the cage because for 6 month ago... i tried to take her out of the cage but she flied in the wall and in the window :( so i dont know how to take her out of her cage without she getting hurt!! Can you help me with that?? maybe a video??

  • that always happens when they get scared it will happen a few times in the beginning..

try to open the cage and let her come out on her own.. i suggest you sit there and just do something on your own ( watch videos online or w.e ) so that when she comes out she will get use to you being there and wont freak out

  • .. if you were to let her out and leave her in the room and then come into the room she would get scared b.c she is focusing on the new place and seeing something moving and coming into the room would scare her...

  • Thanks you so much :D I will try this today :)

  • worked with a Dove !!! yes

  • cool =D

  • Comment removed

  • takes time ... soemtimes a lot of time and patience .. and observation ..you got to see how your birds are reacting to different things and learn their body language.. also a lottttt of trust exercises ... .. also once they atart trusting you they wont bite ( but they coulld do it out of habit)

  • i've got my cockatiel to not bite my lip and he gives kisses but he cannot get over my fingers!! i am going to try this and see how its goes.. his crest is also never down when i enter the room its allwas up!!

  • My cockatiel makes little sqeaking noises when you give him a scratch (we call scratch "sookies" because he turns into a complete sook)

He also loves to be kissed and have a scratch from your nose.

But he hates hands covering his field of view

  • wow!!!!!! its amazing i will try to do it!!!!! I hope my bird loves me soon jejjejeje !

  • Hi! Loved your video! And your cockatiel is so pretty and sweet! :P

When I'm training my cockatiel and he does something right I want to praise him but mostly times he doesn't want the treat. I don't know if it is because he's afraid or just because he doesn't want it... Do you have any tip for that? (He eats from my hand inside or out of his cage). Thank you!

  • thanks,

I would try giving him the treat so he knows what it is and how it tastes like , and make sure its not too big or too small, you will want your cockatiel to be able to see it and have it at a size that wont intimidate him. if food doesn't work , try petting him every time he does the right thing and use a clicker ...the clicker can be used to mean more then one thing ( click and get food or click and get a head scratch)

    hope this helps!

  • excellent video.

    i've recently purchased a 4 month cockatiel.

and i think this a is a great way to start training it.

    i will definately use this.

    thankyou!

  • Did you use a pen instead of a clicker?

  • yes

  • okay if u cant touch ur cockatiel... how did u get it on the computer..

  • i cant touch as in pet her ... shes a hand raised cockatiel that i bought and she is use to being carried on peoples fingers

she just didint let people pet her and touch her head

  • yeah?

  • ive had my bird for four years now and i was never able to touch him. he would always hiss and bite... but after i saw this video, i decided to try it. omg i actually touched him!! i did it about five minutes ago and im just soo happy. thank you sooo much for posting ur training vids. =]

  • Hey thanks for the video im going to try it please keep in touch with me. 1 question why do u need a clicker? how many times should u do this a day?

  • did you hand raise your bird cause if you did you wouldn't have problems with the bird having your trust cause your around it all the time

  • hey i have two problems..

    1. when i even open the cage he gets scared and if i put my hand in there he will get really scared.

    2. he wont eat miller if im holding to it or if im close to him.

    what should i doo???

btw. nice cockatiel it looks cute. (good movie) =)

  • Hey it was great help me I got understand how get my cockatiels trust. But a problem they can fly how can I make sure they cant fly when I trainer them? =/

  • try clipping thier wings

  • umm, i need help, my cockatiel wont even eat from my hand, or worst, it moves away when i get even close to it

  • Very impressive; esp. at the 7:21 point where the bird turns into the direction of the hand and wants more scritches!

Thanks for the vid, and taking the time to work with your bird and make the video!

  • even wit a 5meters distance, mine opens his beak like he wants to protect his territory =/

  • thx for the video!

  • i've tried teaching this to my bird but he always scratches himself while i am doing it which distracts him and i can't find a way to keep him relaxed. he bites my most of the time

  • maybe ur bird has itchy skin ... sometimes thats from the surrownings ...

  • you are awsome!!!!!!!!!

everywhere on the internet i have tried to find good cockatiel taming lessens and yours are always the best!!!!!

    thanx soooo much!!!!
