Interesting in how many ways this piece can be performed! But, although I am a big fan of Emma Kirkby, there is nothing that can make my heart beat as Kiri Te Kanawa’s version of Exultate!
Wow, this is really amazing. I always enjoy anything that is done "too fast" and Emma Kirkby is my favourite singer, so - I POSITIVELY ADORE IT! Thanks for sharing this.
This is a real shame - far too fast. I have her 1984 recording sung with the Westminster Cathedral Boys Choir and it is absolutely beautiful. Her voice was so pure. This recording is not great - shame.
no - but she is - and although I think she is a beautiful singer with an extraordinary voice, I just think that I have heard her sing a better version of this - and not necessarily because of her voice - the whole piece has lost some of its magic because its just too fast - in MY opinion
There are 2 versions of Exultate Jubilate. This one has 2 flutes instead of oboes and is rarely performed. I prefer this one, but then I play the flute too so I'm biased.
in other words it's the same thing and you can stick a pair of flutes on there if there aren't any hautboys hanging about, as far as modern musicians are concerned since peeps nowadays, sadly, rarely double. :P
Actually the Milan version (the one with the pair of flutes) has a slightly different text compared to the more familiar version in addition to the difference in orchestration.
Veo que todo el mundo dice más o menos lo mismo, fast fast tempo and I agree, el tempo aunque le queda bien a la música de carácter alegre, es veneno para la voz, sólo Kirkby podría hacerlo a este tempo. The voice can't show it's best in this tempo, but I admire Kirkby, I'd like to see another version.
Not one beat too fast, as Mozart said to the Emperor.

Much too fast and the voice sounds on the throat to me - no overtone. This is not good singing.

I agree with you, it is a bit too fast.
However, it's still amazing that she CAN do it that fast without 'messing up' the runs

@Raqspell And I was on that recording as one of the boys in the choir!

What's with the traversi? Aren't they supposed to be two hautboys? I mean they sound great but c'mon, nothing beats a pair of hautboys.

i still prefer the sound/color of two hautboys instead of traversi on those parts.

The concert mistress needs to slow the f*** down...sheese! She should sing a couple things herself to learn how to set tempo for singers.

Agreed. No way to hear those trills which she normally expresses so beautifully at such a fast tempo!
