  • Not one beat too fast, as Mozart said to the Emperor.

  • Much too fast and the voice sounds on the throat to me - no overtone. This is not good singing.

  • Interesting in how many ways this piece can be performed! But, although I am a big fan of Emma Kirkby, there is nothing that can make my heart beat as Kiri Te Kanawa’s version of Exultate!

  • I love Emma but talk about a horse race. The pace was too fast to enjoy the praise this piece illicits!

  • Very farouche expression... Wihtout spirituality, they play like a rough sport !

  • too fast for me but molto brava indeed.

  • Wow, this is really amazing. I always enjoy anything that is done "too fast" and Emma Kirkby is my favourite singer, so - I POSITIVELY ADORE IT! Thanks for sharing this.

  • I've got this amongst my favourites and listened to it again today. Fantastic

  • This is a real shame - far too fast. I have her 1984 recording sung with the Westminster Cathedral Boys Choir and it is absolutely beautiful. Her voice was so pure. This recording is not great - shame.

  • shut up. i don't see you up there singing.

  • no - but she is - and although I think she is a beautiful singer with an extraordinary voice, I just think that I have heard her sing a better version of this - and not necessarily because of her voice - the whole piece has lost some of its magic because its just too fast - in MY opinion

  • I agree with you, it is a bit too fast.

However, it's still amazing that she CAN do it that fast without 'messing up' the runs

  • @Raqspell And I was on that recording as one of the boys in the choir!

  • What's with the traversi? Aren't they supposed to be two hautboys? I mean they sound great but c'mon, nothing beats a pair of hautboys.

  • There are 2 versions of Exultate Jubilate. This one has 2 flutes instead of oboes and is rarely performed. I prefer this one, but then I play the flute too so I'm biased.

  • in other words it's the same thing and you can stick a pair of flutes on there if there aren't any hautboys hanging about, as far as modern musicians are concerned since peeps nowadays, sadly, rarely double. :P

  • Actually the Milan version (the one with the pair of flutes) has a slightly different text compared to the more familiar version in addition to the difference in orchestration.

  • i still prefer the sound/color of two hautboys instead of traversi on those parts.

  • The concert mistress needs to slow the f*** down...sheese! She should sing a couple things herself to learn how to set tempo for singers.

  • TOOOOOOOOO FAAAAAAAAAAAAAST

  • Agreed. No way to hear those trills which she normally expresses so beautifully at such a fast tempo!

  • Veo que todo el mundo dice más o menos lo mismo, fast fast tempo and I agree, el tempo aunque le queda bien a la música de carácter alegre, es veneno para la voz, sólo Kirkby podría hacerlo a este tempo. The voice can't show it's best in this tempo, but I admire Kirkby, I'd like to see another version.

  • omigawd, too fast! Where'd the music go? 'S not Emma's fault. Yikes!

  • Pobrissima de ella.... Posee una coloratura impresionante... No desafinada nada! Bravissimo!!

  • Dios mío que rapidez y que sufrimiento, pobre Emma, los músicos tenían prisa?

  • The tempo is pretty fast!!! But Emma sings it well...however the orchestra are a bit frantic in their playing!

  • Oh boy! Talk about a runaway train - she kept it together though!

  • Looks like members of London Baroque to me....

  • TOO FAST! The runs are too jumbled at this speed!

  • little fast, the violinist also slightly over-enthusiastic

  • I love Kirkby, but this one sounds to me a little fast and confused...

  • Emma is such a great artist! SO voice is tailor-made for music such as this.

  • I don¨t like this!! sorry, love her in Pergolesi Stabat mater, but this is shit.

  • This is great too.

  • wow...is so fast... well Mrs. Emma Kirkby is the best of baroque sopranos :D

  • Naaaaaaaaaa. Cecilia, pensaci tu!!!

  • oh my god!!! this version is soooo fast! impressive.

  • Love that Emma!

  • Great rendition...emma has got a great voice...and the period orchestra performs exquisite aswell
