Electricity is not a substitute for oil. Electricity is already much cheaper than oil, if it was convenient to replace oil with electricity you'd be seeing electric vehicles everywhere.

The most important reason to not make fuel out of food crops is because we need food crops for food, not for fuel.
A better crop to use is algae. It can be grown on roof tops, not corn fields. Plus it can be harvested daily, not once a year all at once, thus creating an expensive storage problem.
It would not be expensive to convert ethanol production facilities from food crops to algae. But we have to overcome the big agriculture lobby.

Bernie Sanders (I VT) has submitted a bill that would provide 50% rebates to homeowners who install solar panels and solar hot water heaters.
The projected cost of $30 billion would produce the same amount of electricity as 30 nuclear power plants.
Consider the fact that under the bill the residential units would all come on line within ten years.
Compare that to the fact that in ten years none of the nuclear power plants would be on line yet, and their cost would be over $300 BILLION!

I for one lost 3 miles per gallon from 18 to 15 average in my truck, that is 17% MORE FUEL I AM USING NOW than before Ethanol was added.
You do the math, Ethanol is a HUGE mistake that is costing us big.
