Did you really get tear-gassed while shouting "Fuck Bob Hope!"? That's amazing. I've been on a few demos myself, but never one against him or any other comedian, come to think of it. :)
Well, the demonstration wasn't against Bob Hope, (LOL!) it was about the bombing in Cambodia. The thing was that Bob Hope was the 4th of July MC or whatever, and the area was roped off and guarded for VIP guests only.
It was rather amusing when the Park Police's tear gas hit the VIP crowd :) In the papers the next day, the police denied it was them - said it was us! Absurd, of course, I watched them firing it from their horses.
That point you made about the reports following the event, I've seen that phenomenon. There was one BBC news report in particular, I could hardly believe they were talking about the same rally, since I'd been there myself and seen it all first-hand.
There was a famous (here) BBC war reporter, Martin Bell, who became an MP for a while and he pretty much said the same thing - you couldn't rely on the mainstream coverage.
Am I right in assuming you are Progressive Liberal?

Well, I thought there might be more to it. :)
