you are such a cock tease. the whole time I was like why is he wimping out, throttle it to the redline you pussy. and then the last 5 sec you sort of did it. Man if you don't have the guts why even put it on the dyno?
rotaries are perfect for a sand rail: light, small, and high revving. They can be made to conserve gas if you don't need to blow sand everywhere 24/7, and they sound like airplanes, which is fun.
@F3RALIC Think of them like piston rings in a piston engine, its the same principle. So think of a rotory with a blown apex seal like a piston engine that fried the rings. It will run but very poorly.
awesome...wanna see what a 20b can do in a lightweight car on the street? check this out: watch?v=fvPfi-ZeQRM (or search for "20b rotary powered ae 86")
How cares about the horsepower or the hp/weight ratio that must be insane. I wanna know how many RPM's that is screaming at!!!!! You want to kill people in the dunes throttle it at 8,000 and kick sand in their face.
makes you think 500 hp and 200 torque, but I'm sure the torque is actually higher. I like my big block mopar, chev and olds, but that thing without pistons is pretty impressive when it spools up the boost. who needs torque for dunes anyway, torque is for rocks and launching heavy machines at the dragstrip. I'm sure that thing is scary fast
Maybe try some drugs..DICK HEAD.. this engine in almost any car would waste a v8 loser...power to weight is unbelievable especially in this frame so before you spurt shit out your mouth bout how good v8's are...get some knowledge
Tophlangsucks your right, but no need to go calling him a dickhead.
Brent- Rotary engines are quite low in torque by nature, but with a light buggy this doesnt matter atall. A V8 would have too much (useable)torque and add far too much weight.
Thankyou..it shits me off when retards who no nothing talk up their v8 when it cant even be compared to a rotary in this application..btw boarhunter called unriselyrical a dickhead..i returned the favour:P
I agree, some people have no idea, they talk about V8's as if they're the beesknees, they're not, they drink fuel like fish and are slow to rev out. I've seen many a red faced V8 owner when they've been left for dead by a 4 or 6 cylinder car that's stock standard. and rotary's, well, they bloody go!
I only said rotaries are generaly low in torque, ie, torque - bhp ratio and I've never seen any rotaries power figures that could change that perception.
He isn't even close to being right: first off, a (stock, let alone a high-compression, ported 20b) doesn't lack torque and sandrails don't put around the dunes at idle, they spin the poop out of the motor, climb hills, jump dunes and people that put around the dunes at idle. 10,000rpm; and a high output, lightweight, easy-to-rebuild rotary is a perfect application for something like a sandrail. That ride looks like a hill-climbing monster to me.
you stupid this guy knows what he is doing cuz my friend has a 96 rx7 turbo rotary engine on his dune buggy and he beat a freeking porche 911 on a freeway.and it is fast and strong in the dunes
An OHV engine?? Corvette LS2 of LS3, Big block chevy. You can put what ever you want. It all comes down to gearing and transmission. Shit you could even put a m3 motor if you want put would have to be a two seater for weight reasons. I post a video of my buddies 1000 HP rig from racer. $145000 dollar car. Has so much power he has tractor tires on the front that weigh 100lbs each to help keep the front end down.
That is the most amazing thing I've seen and heard for ages! I love the pick up on boost at high revs. Flames and pops, awesome! It must be over 500bhp easy.
It sounds great and I'm sure it works really great weight wise, the only thing I would worry about is getting enough of a running start since rotary's arent as torquey as V8s.
first of all, that is no 100k dollar buggy. i've seen many 100k dollar rails, and that aint it. but it is nice, and yes, it's worth more than the car that motor came out of, but even then, that motor is not from USA, we only got the 13B, and that is a 20B tri rotor from overseas. very nice
sooo much turbo lag on that thing sweet buggy once the turbo spools up, ps those arent normal tires they run on that they just use those for the dyno to get more accurate reading
there lucky the tires didnt blow under full power. the reason y they mad weird shapes is cause the force on the tires was so great that the air inside was getting bushed out that y drag cars looks flat untill they take off then they go oval do to the force. but this buggy is the shit i wonder if this guy drages it
Not any ive seen..adding a 4wd differential would add to weight and with the engine placed over the rear wheels there is a good amount of traction..thats why volkswagon engines were popular for beach buggies such as the myers manx
heh me and my friend were thinking about making a little amateur dune buggy, and the thought of putting a rotary engine in came to mind yesterday. im glad to see its been done.
Rotaries have the potential to be one of the fastest accelerating engines around - behind F1. Its because of their small capacity and higher fuel burning efficiency. This would then serve a dual purpose, namely: 1)Acceleration would be much quicker at lower revs (where there is comparably less power), and; 2)the huge high rev power (over 13,000 in the rotaries case)would be somewhat restricted in its top end speed. You don't want a 300kph+ dune buggy.

The twin turbo Mazda I tested was shocking impressive.
I get back, open the hood, and it's just a bowling bag size power plant. Very powerful, and very light weight. It felt like 300HP.
They also use this engine in the Coors Lite experimental aircraft when I did the Oshkosh tours in mid eighties.
You have a way too much fun machine with that much pull. Modded to 4 wheel drive would be killer in the sand.
