I have to say, Jorma is one of the most under-rated guitarists I've ever seen, he is incredibly talented and doubly experienced. I cannot fathom why he doesn't have more fame amongst the musical community.
Wasn't that Guitar World's Acoustic classics issue that came out? I seem to remember it having some of the best acoustic tabs in that issue. Embryonic Journey, Midsummers Daydream, Little Martha, Blackbird, Dee, etc.
There is a fairly accuract TAB available in Acoustic Guitar from a few years ago. I learned it from that and when at Jorma's guitar camp, he taught it and it was basically the same. Jorma said the TAB was pretty accurate
this guys hands are so huge.... and about the metal picks they sure take a while to get used to. i mean they run into all your strings, its feals like the first time you tried to play a guitar.
His hands are'nt as big as they might appear. The fingerpicks you get used to. I play with or without them, it is just a different sound and there are advantages either way. Woody Mann plays without them and is fantastic, Jorma plays with them and is fantastic, I play both ways and still stink !!
This video helped me finally crack the key to this song-the metal fingerpicks on the index and middle fingers make it happen! I have just used the thumbpick, but the metal fingerpicks really make the dynamics close to the record.Jorma uses only thumbpick sometimes, but I think this is much closer to the recording...
Hey smocke you are very welcome with your great info. and done in great style.
You know, my opinion was really biased because of being an almost life long Stills fan, and hearing some incredible sounds coming out of that acoustic of his, so I guess I will think twice before comenting next time.
Thanks for the info. regarding Blind A. Blake I will check him out.
For sure, Gary Davis was instrumental in Jorma's trip to guitar mastery, but as much as I love and respect The Reverend, Jorma is much more fluid, crisp and tight.
@deweypug Fingerpicking (also called thumb picking, alternating bass, or pattern picking) is a term that is used to describe both a playing style and a genre of music. In this technique, the thumb maintains a steady rhythm, usually playing "alternating bass" patterns on the lower three strings, while the index, or index and middle fingers pick out melody and fill-in notes on the high strings.
@joezero315 You are splitting hairs here... Both styles are so fused into one another at this point. .Anyway, Jorma called me and he said he doesn't like you.
@deweypug fingerstyle playing can include chords, arpeggios and other elements such as artificial harmonics, hammering on and pulling off with the fretting hand, using the body of the guitar percussively, and many other techniques.
Haha his face at the end! He's like, "Uhh that's right you better fuckin' clap."

definately out of A shape on 5th fret for the main riff.
But he does go to open D position for the later section with the sus sound and the sliding 4ths on E and B strings.
Jorma teaches this tune very detailed on his Homespun video #1 .
