That's a bit simple isn't it, I don't know the entire story. But after the two bands Anon and a band I don't know the name of was put together the got the name "The new Anon" with Antony Philips, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel and John Mayhew. They changed the name to "Genesis" later in the 60's. Steve Hackett and Phil Collins took over for Antony Philips and John Mayhew. The members of genesis where now Peter Gabriel Mike Rutherford Phil Collins Steve Hackett and Tony Banks...

In the late 70's only Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins and Tony Banks where left and they gave out the record "And then we where three". These three members are the ones everybody knows about. But so few know who was in the band from the start.
