You have to understand the historical context. Back in 1984, computers were just starting to trickle down from college campuses into the consumer market, and movies like "Wargames" didn't help their image as non-threatening and family-friendly tools. The Macintosh had the first GUI and mouse interface, which is pretty revolutionary compared to the command-line interface of DOS and Unix.
Also, the cinematography is like a movie, rather than a commercial. That's why it's notable.
I don't really see what the big deal is. It's kind of lame, actually. Were commercials in 1984 so bad in comparison that this seemed brilliant in comparison?
