do you have a tutorial on removing backgrounds that are not just one solid color? example ... say there is a person standing in front of a house & I just want the person not the house or anything else in the pictureis there away to make the background transparent? So in the end all I have is the person with a transparent background
I need step by step Gimp Tutorials like this one without the Teacher going to fast making it complicated by not really thoroughly explain things. This one is not like some of the Gimp Tutorial that try to put 20min into 10. one of the BIG problem with some Gimp Tutorials there is no audio Voice and when there is, The video of the toolbox is so small, you can not see what is being clicking on. It can make it difficult to read some of the toolbar script. out of 5 stars I give this 4 stars
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!! In the storyboard video, I asked you to explain how to remove the color if the character had the same color, however, I didn't use common sense (change the color) but after a few tries, I got it down.
Once again, thank you and good luck with your future projects.
I have a hurt time trying to figure out how to save the new image to my pictures, and than be able to view it, set as a background on my computer and than be able to transfer to my SD memory card. Can you help with this? I can view the picture in GIMP and when I try to print the picture, the size is all wrong.
though, wouldn't you just want to add gray as the color? Because that doesn't make sense. Unless you're referring to a stage.
Trying to do that with a sprite character wouldn't work, because the background color of a sprite, would be the masking color, Fighter Factory would need, to make himher appear on a stage properly in mugen.
you have to type in the name of the extension. if you want the said file as .png, then you have to type it in when making a name for the file, when you're ready to save.
go into ur layers menu, then select the transparency submenu, then select add alpha channel... do this before u cut, so it will have a transparent channel layered beneath it...
when u save it, save in either png, gif, or xcf format bcuz they can hold transparent layers... not jpg
With a background that has a complicated setting, simply blow up the pic, and use the magic wand too, or color pocker tool, an change all lines to the same color. or use the foreground eraser tool.
if the image has layers, just separate the layers if need be
Yes. I knew how to do it, I was just saying that this tutorial is simple, yet most pictures that people want to remove the background of have complicated background settings.

Can you make a tutorial about turning the background into grayscale and the foreground image colour? Does that make sense?
P.S. I like your voice :D

I have no idea what those terms mean, I've only just installed Gimp o.O I don't even know how to add grey as the colour.... lol

may I ask if you canchange the file type of the gimp edit I have done? it only gives me .xcf.

yeah thanks. I figured it out. I guess the the GIMP program that I have is a newer version so I had to click extract to save it as a different type.

1. Mask your subject.
2. Invert the selection (CTRL + I).
3. Colour > Desaturate.
