  • If you'll remember way back to the Evil Forest, Steiner notes that the antidote smells terrible, but then when he tries, he likes it. Could it possibly be made with Gysahl Pickles?

  • MATH !? NOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • I love Dragoons/Dragon Knights. Yeah, you have to spend a turn before you land for double damage...but you're IN THE AIR. Nothing can hit you, you're completely immune to damage of any form, and you can sit in the back row with heavy armor for the times when you're not in the air. It's like using a Monk's Focus/Build Up abilities, but having damage immunity.

  • how did you get so many Wrist?

  • @Sapudo155 he bought them in dali

  • @Sapudo155

    Wrist (130)

    + Steepled Hat (260)

    + Synthesis (1000)

    = Cotton Robe (1390)

    Resale Value (2000)

    - Cotton Robe (1390)

    = Profit (610)

  • @Sapudo155 Sorry I didn't read it correctly I thought you said "Why did you buy so many?" ignore the information I've given you :)

  • cant take w no shield either. but i think drg knights are still good. next to kain, freya is up there. if it wasnt for her and vivi, i wouldnt have gotten far.

  • @LonewolfCrystal tank*

  • Wow, "I'm 37 I'm not that old" was the most obscure Monty Python reference you have made so far.

  • 1:07 you made a ryhme in such little time

  • HC Baily how can you not like Freya, she is kind of like cid and u like him

  • not only do I learn about this walkthrough but hcbaily is also teaching me investment who says videogames are bad for you

  • My favourite Dragoon in the series is definitely Kain, character-wise None of the other ones come even close.

  • @peddle1993 That's an unfair comparison because Kain's the only Dragoon to be a main character. If Freya had a sideplot besides "stalk ex-boyfriend" we might be able to determine whether she's an interesting character or not.

  • @peddle1993 Well Kain is one of my favourite FF characters and I really think his performance in Dissidia 012 when he confronted Exdeath was extremely epic. Also wasn't Cid from FF7 a Dragoon as he used Jump and uses lances? and he was a main character

  • However you come up with these great videos keep them coming!

  • ive never played ff9 but i have played both dissidia games and since i know Kuja is from ff9 im guessing the man Dagger mentioned is him

  • @aaronexe123 uhmm no, the man behind Dagger's name is actually a girl! and she's princess garnet :D

  • @aaronexe123 *facepalm*

  • @aaronexe123 If you're talking about a minute and 30 seconds in, Imma say probably.

  • I LOVE Freya. Her design and her Dragoon-like abilities.

  • HCBaily ranting about dragon knights ftw

  • If you speak with the Silly Old Man twice he says - "I have to go take a dump."

  • her father off'd himself when he realized his wife looked the way she did

  • Awww HCBailly doesn't like Freya :( Freya Vivi and a small blue haired thing with Zidane are my top party.

  • your knowledge of the medieval era is kinda pathetic but you are definitely one of my favorite LPers :P keep up the good work and dont trust wikipedia!

  • Over time, the 'game' part of FF - that is, the fighting - has become more and more extraneous as the plot and characters took center stage.

  • I think dragoons are meant to tank AFTER the enemy does a powerful attack that kills everyone else while the dragoon is in the air.

  • haha that's what i thought also you should just attack twice. lololol

  • I know it's been said already, but the idea behind Dragoons is that they're invincible half the time and are melee damage dealers, not tanks. I will agree with you that, comparatively, that's kind of a sucky ability. Freya, however, is pretty rocking because of her Dragon abilities. She can act as a backup healer or mage and her Dragon Crest allows for some pretty obscene damage with proper grinding. Her only drawback is a small MP pool, and that can be fixed with ethers and conservation.

  • EVERYTIME i hear "What could possibly go wrong" in games or anime bad shit will happen

  • with Freya, you can get an ability that deals damage based on the number of dragons you've killed x strength I think, and you can do up to 9999 damage

  • dragoons are a very strong class so stfu

  • Jumping offscreen means she's out of harm's way so it's like a sneak attack, and she can keep doing it and possibly not take damage at all.

Also, I hope Garnet was just saying that.

  • Dragon knights aren't tanks since you play wow think of them as a hard dps arm warrior or somthing

  • What city are you in in this video? Alexandria?

  • @provengillt lindblum

  • Comment removed

  • Complaining about a moogle? How racist!

  • tank = drawing aggro, I can't see why her being in the air would stop that.

Waiting a turn to deal double damage = useful to avoid some triggers, such as an enemy that will heal if under a certain amount of health, you kill it before it has the chance.

  • @krihan3 Plus, when she learns High Jump she does more than double damage.

  • get the fuch over it its another charactor lmao'

  • HCbailey, haven't the good guys have the chance for a airship bombardment in the other Final Fantasy games? Like in Final Fantasy 4 with the Dwarves?

  • im gonna try that trick.. do i have to battle long to get the 99 wrists and steepled hats?

  • if only I knew this trick when I played FF IX way back when ~_~

  • @HumanIceTea me too

  • Comment removed

  • Things that could possibly go wrong:

    1. Airship sabotage

    2. Airship take over

    3. Coup d'etat

    4. Super powerful monster/Mage/soldier

    5. It's FF, the game makers do whatever the fuck they want

  • About your mini rant of dragons... I like them just because if your party is knocked down by a really strong attack but your dragon is in the air, you could revive some party members (prefered white mage), while dealing double damage (yes Im refering this time to FFIV Zeromus EVIL BIG BANG). Also, in some games like in FFIV, they are kickass defined. Oh and in FFIV Advance, the double jump, is ass whopin defined.

  • Hippo Lade - Old man lol.

  • Although in regular random encounters dragoons are about as useful as any regular melee class (remember, they don't HAVE to jump), I find that in boss battles or against enemies with powerful multi-target attacks dragoons are VERY useful to have around. They deal consistent damage like a melee class, but can avoid attacks every other turn. In fact, in ffIV during the final battle Kain was my most useful character because he delt the second most amount of damage, and didn't get hit EVEN ONCE :D

  • @OurGroupAccount I find Dragoon's useful mainly because of there Ability's.

  • This scheme is INGUISE YOU ARE THE SMARTEST GUY I HALF KNOW SO FAR

  • About all the airships, I wonder if there ever was a "Hindenburg incident". I mean, the cargo ship looked like it had a balloon on the top of it.

  • i wish my uncle had an airship T_T

  • Sure, Dragon Knights/Dragoons aren't all that efficient gameplay-wise, but damn they're awesome. And this is Final Fantasy, so that's what matters.

  • Sometimes, having a Dragoon can save your party in the instance of potential full wipe attacks.

  • 0:26 - Jump in the air, and be EXEMPT from area-of-effect attacks, and do double damage when they land. I've never beaten Ozma without her.

  • @SBaby also, this goes to HCBailly, in games that there are Dragons, there are ALWAYS better tanks. In FF4, Paladin cecil can always take a whopin, more so than Kain, In 7, cloud was more capable of taking damage, in this game, there is steiner, In XI (yes there are dragons there), both paladin and ninja are better at tanking, because the paladin defense ane HP are insane, and the ninja can do duplicates. As you see, dragons arent the best tanks around, they serve to revive and do damage

  • I have a question, Hcbailly. I just started playing FF9 over the weekend, intending to beat it though I've owned it for years now. I've reached roughly this point in the game, but I forgot to buy wrists in Dali. So my question is: being a good 4 hours into the game, do you think it would be worth it to start over and buy the wrists in Dali to perform the cotton robe trick, or should I just press on?

  • @dwab321 Just keep going. You will have another opportunity on Disc 2.

  • I would like Freya a lot more if you could see her face. Half the game, I'm like, what am I looking at? The only two times you get a good look at her are in the only two FMVs she appears in during the game.

As for the benefits of being a dragon knight, one free turn without getting hit.

That's a nice trick with the cotton robes. I'll have to try that. Because Lindblum has so much new equipment, I can never actually afford it all during my first visit, unless I go outside to grind.

  • Nice trick i dont know of this:D

  • I don't see why you don't like dragon knights. you could attack twice, but jumping makes one turn invincible, and the second turn makes up for the last turn by giving you double damage.

  • 15 min episodes are great for this..keep doing 15 min epiosdes!!

  • on the dragon knight disscusion. i think the only time i found them helpful was in final fantasy tactics since they have as good health, better speed and a range on there weapon to prevent counter attacks, other than that i completely agree with you hc about dragon knights...seeing as though dragon knights and lancers in fft (psone) are the same thing.

  • HCBaily, at 8:45 you missed a great line. If you talk to the "Silly Old Man" again, he says "oh yeah! I have to go take a dump"

It's probably the funniest line in the game, imo. lmao

  • How much gil does it come out to in the end?

  • They only get minimal DPS boost by jumping but they aren't able to be attacked while charging up, so that's kinda good.

  • my theory why herr father died, he suicide at how ugly his wife became

  • 09:12 LOL

  • Are you dissing Kain HC? lol

  • Freya has badass abilities! She's not just some Dragoon.

  • 11:34 That makes me wonder....when DOES Dissidia take place?

  • I thought Freya was a Red Mage. God Damnit.

  • @ZeroxShadowscape lol, have you played this game?

  • @scottyh112233 im currently playing it. I still wonder when does Dissidia take place.

  • Dragon Knights are actually really good, having the ability to completely invulnerable from all attacks and dealing double damage at the end can be something you can really take advantage of.

  • maybe the advantage of the Dragon knight is that they can avoid being hit by anything when they're in the air.

not sure about the armor thing tho..

  • When I first saw Freya, I thought she was a Red Mage. She looks like it with the whole red pointy hat looking thing and the red outfit.

  • "a big black mage girlfriend"

...........for some reason that sounds scary.

  • Yay for Freya!

  • 11:22 "I like swords!"

Yay, it's a reference to Locke! (Still my favorite character in any of the Final Fantasies that I've played).

  • That trick seems hard for someone like me who sucks at math -_-

  • Freya = moar party members!

Dragon Knight? She dresses like a Red Mage. Oh, two feathers makes it a viking warrior hat.

Rethinking my comment from before, maybe Bujerba from FF12 is more like Lindblum than Archadia is.

Back in Locke's day you did have to walk to the theater / opera house, heh.

  • Dragon Knights have never been the greatest perty members in any FF, whereas in Vandel Hearts ....

  • Hooray for Freya! Favorite character aside from... A certain antagonist later on? :3

  • I like Dragon knights in Final Fantasy tactics, that was what I made my main character.

  • dad used to say "I had to walk 5 miles everyday to school , through the snow , and uphill BOTH WAYS!"

  • freya looks more like a red mage.....(:O#__#O:)

  • What a trick.. Damn.

  • Dagger must've taken after her father in looks.

  • i had one million gil in ff9 from grinding on some houses

  • With regard to the line about her father, I think the implication is that her mother went crazy about *spoiler addressed later in the plot* around the time of her father's death. It would make sense if she had him killed, but you're right in that they don't address that sufficiently. Maybe there's something they left out from the translation.

  • The purpose to Dragon Knights is that by being in the air, they're avoiding damage. They're supposed to be a damage-dealer that you don't have to heal every 10 seconds. Not a tank.

But I do agree that they often have piss Agility, so you end up doing more damage overall by just having them attack regularly.

  • I remember in Final Fantasy Tactics the Dragon class was very good.

  • YES! I got my audio working. Turns out I just needed to download a free audio driver. I am now free to enjoy this LP. =D

  • It's generally better because they do the damage equivalent of two attacks, but with one turn safe in the air from all damage.

But I do see your point about heavy armor though, they probably just kept it that way to keep tradition.

  • @bx111gamer Often times it's 1.5x, not 2x.

  • dagger's father killed himself because he realized he married louie anderson

  • 8:45

    You could call him Dennis.

  • @ZzMorningWoodzZ Well he didnt know he was supposed to be called Dennis!

  • You should put difficulty ratings for each boss fight.

  • Steiner likes pickles!!!

  • I remember the copy weapon glitch (pardon if I don't know whether is so) from Final Fantasy 4. Money making schemes are helpful for completion in a game.

  • Wait, Baily, so I'm not the only one who has thought that? Why bother jumping for 1+ turns to do double damage...when I could just attack twice?

  • Dragoons = tanks, that fall on the enemy. Cid had an affair. thus his wife waylays him and turns him into a oglop. makes sense to me. secert money all over the world. darn walls and there getting in tthe way...

  • 9:27 your own personal reference to Galuf their HCBailly?

  • DANG IT! I forgot about that trick, and I'm in disc two...I need more money. Well, at least I have all the abilities you can have.

  • Y-you don't like dragoons!? /unsub

Kidding aside, I'm rather fond of them myself. Their abilities aside, they are just the coolest things around. That said, I can't stand Freya as a character.

  • I liked Freya her dragon crest is overpowered (if you grind )

  • I liked Freya when I played through this. She might not've been the strongest in battle, but I still liked to have her in my party for whatever reason.

Talking about playable characters I don't like...a certain fatty and a certain tall, lanky dude.

  • It still doesn't make much sense, you still think Cid would have known about Zidane because of Baku. You learn later on the second disc about Zidane and Baku's relationship since Baku and Cid go so far back you would think that he and Zidane would have met at some point.

  • 9:20 when i was your age, we had to walk around on our bare feet, suplex trains, and fight octopi! AND WE LIKED IT!!!

  • It's hard to talk about the King of Alexendria (Garnet's ''father''), without giving spoilers about her ''past'' or some of the ''suspicious'' relations of the Queen.......

But IF the King was murdered, I would go for the one with the most interests related to the Queen and the, Black Mages... who I can't talk of right now, but he's quite the sinister type...

...hehe... Moogles, really useful creatures or a nuisance ? That will be the subject of our next interview ! ;)

  • i know im gonna get rich with this scheme.....and quick!

  • HC bailey, imma pause you video for a moment good sir, at second 51, the middle of your complaint about dragon knights (dragoons in any other sane game), and say this for jump: a boss with exorbidant physical defense will still take notable damage, as it's the power of two blows against its defense, rather than two blows both reduced by defence once each

  • Thanks for the trick HC, I never realized that, because I never sold any of my stuff. Sheesh, I was wondering why I couldn't get some of the stuff at the end of disk 1.

  • but you used a dragoon to fight the final boss of final fantasy V

  • @brainjuice654 lol also when he fought the piers in final fantasy VI

  • I thought early on, they said her dad died of sickness or he got sick or something, i'm not sure on that though

  • Remember that a Dragon Knight is off the field of battle while their attack charges up. This acts as immunity - a considerable tactical advantage compared to other attacks that charge up.

Also, if a Dragon Knight is in the air and the rest of the party is cursed or wiped out, the Dragon Knight will be unaffected when they land (at least in most cases). They can then start reviving their comrades - and their heavy armor proficiency will allow them to better withstand damage as they do so.

  • Zidane states on the lift that he had never met Cid before, that's why he asked Dagger what he was like. So I'm guessing when Cid asked Tantalus to kidnap Dagger, it was only Baku that was asked.

  • God damn i can buy steiners equipment in the store??? It took me 50 times to steal it from this Black waltz guy....

  • Actually Freya is a much, much better "tank" then Steiner precisely because she can go off the screen whenever she chooses. Since there aren't that many ways to protect your allies (outside of skills like Protect Girls) the fact that Steiner is there doesn't actually protect anyone. No he helps via staying alive and providing phoenix down usage after your weaker allies die.

  • Freya can massively reduce damage she takes or avoid big hits via jump and if you don't want her off the screen don't jump just use one of her other skills (which are plenty respectable in and of themselves). She also makes an excellent healer via items as she is very hard to kill thanks to Jump and her natural toughness.

  • 10:24 is that ahh!!!! real monsters referance??

  • @vincent112233445566 I doubt it, he does that in most RPGs he LPs

  • was that holy grail reference at hippo lady?

  • @igorcro Unintentional at first, but yes.

  • ah, thanks for telling us about the cotton robe trick. =]

  • dragoon knights don't NEED to be tanks, most console rpgs dont really HAVE tanks

  • Dragon Knights can avoid some heavy damaging delayed attacks with proper timing. Like dodging mega flare in ff4 if you don't have reflect.

  • @dioseolo Thanks for clearing that up for me. You are correct, I have not played the game long enough to know whats going on.

  • I love how Square made a reference, to one of their other games with Wayne and Torres. I don't think HC would know it, but still they do pretty much the same thing there too. Nice touch by Square, to have a rather obvious reference.

  • Thats what i don't get about final fantasy games, if Dragoons have proficiency with Heavy Armor, how the hell can tehy jump so high in the air??? I would imagine that if you wear Heavy Armor you can barely walk with it, let alone jump.

  • lol damn, thats a cool money trick. (playing this game, on disc 3 and never did this)

  • Hcbailly please play FF12 I can 100% assure you that if you like FF9 then you will love FF12 I have the guide brady guide book for it I can send it to you for free it covers every single detail and secret in this game, hidden treasures , secret bosses , weapons items and so on

  • @25445799

FF12 sucks. Battle system ok but the storyline is awffulll..

  • @MrEternity1

What exactly was "awful" about XII's storyline in comparison to the other FF's?

  • @MrEternity1 ff12 had one of the better storys it might be kinda confusing but it was really well done also the ending made sense (unlike ff8) and it wasnt depressing (like ff7 and a somewhat ff13)

  • @ninjapenguin1414

FF12 did not have near one of the better stories.

A orphan who wants to become a pirate or sky captain?

The storyline was stupid and so was the ending. There was no deep emotional

parts of the story nor anything that really got your attention.

I did enjoy the battle system though.

  • @MrEternity1 I have to disagree. FF12's storyline was one that made the most sense to me. Just plain ol' politics "politricks" and war, the same thing we learned about in the history books in school.

Made more sense than 'Time Compression', Sephiroth's Oedipus complex with his mother, merging planets together, and the bunk religion of Yevon (but I still enjoyed those FF games!).

  • @SilentWeaponsIII thank you also i agree to what u say about the other games

  • I thought when he was talking about the spiky hair he was talking about Blank.

  • "i dont know why i keep forgeting that one"

    i know why XD

  • "freya is the dragonite of the game"

    ....wat?

  • @xLuky Dragon Knight. If you are familiar with any of the other Final Fantasy games, Dragoon would be more appropriate.

  • @frozenflame448 yeah, I know, but i still sounds like he's saying Dragonite :P

  • @xLuky Ah, I thought you were serious. Whoops lol

  • You don't like dragon knights at all? What about Kain?

  • Jumping removes them from combat, in games like FFT dragoon/dragon knights are quite effective at taking out units like mages.

  • I always found Freya useful against certain battles; having one character who was always out of range of enemy attacks is actually occasionally useful, especially considering that I'm fairly sure no one learns any techniques that draw attacks to them, which makes tanking impractical. Plus, Freya learns actual techniques beyond jumping, including some ones that are pretty damn broken.

  • Did anybody notice that Steiner looks like Robin Hood in Armour

  • 9:37 he said your infamous quote "If only" this game has a Bailly reference.

  • You hate Dragon Knights? I thought you was cool man. ^_^ tee hee nah nah im joking i love Dragon Knights i think they are more unique then other knights, however you do have a point, you would think that they would do triple damage with a jump attack that would be awsome.

  • Freya Is One my Favorites Dragon Knights (Dragoons).

  • You dont jump with Freya. She CAN, but her abilities are what make her. I played Through with Freya, Zidane, uh... and 2 characters you dont have yet, with no white mages. It went very well, Freya has some seriously hard hitting attacks.

  • Dragon Knights?! Do they ride flying elephants?

  • FFVI Jump saves you from many an Ultima spell

  • Awww.... Dragon Knights, Dragoons, Lancers, etc... Were always my favorite class. I really like Freya in this game too, though I was upset she was a freaking kangaroo rat... I like her twist when she goes into a trance too... The jump lets you basically avoid a really nasty attack for a round too.

  • Awww.... Dragon Knights, Dragoons, Lancers, etc... Were always my favorite class. I really like Freya in this game too, though I was upset she was a freaking kangaroo rat... I like her twist when she goes into a trance too...

  • You know, even though the game makes such a gigantic deal out of it, I don't see much in the way of rust on Steiners armour.

  • What would happen if you made her name one of the names he guessed earlier, and she said no to?

  • @Torqegood

Probably nothing, but it'd be funny and interesting if it actually changed the dialogue if you named her one of the guessed names.

  • @HCBailly honestly the jump has saved my ass more then once if you take my strategy and when your near low health start jumping so they donbt hit you

  • I know what you mean regarding the Dragoons. The only really good ones in the series are Kain because it never took too long to charge a jump or come down from a jump, Cid because he's got good stats and limit breaks, and Fang because her Highwind ability can do multiple hits of 99999, and millions of damage when you introduce the Genji Glove. Other than that, Dragoons are just sorta there.

  • Hey thanks for the cotton robe trick HC :)

PS. But jump makes you impossible to be hit, plus Freya has some neat abilities especially the "gradual green" one ;)
