Hey, well done! Amazing video, it's a shame that you use the IRIS F-16 instead of the newer, better Aerosoft F-16 Fighting Falcon. Any way, well done!
Thanks. This isn't the IRIS F-16, it is the original Kirk Olsson F-16 for FS9. I understand your desire to mention the Aerosoft F-16, I purchased it, but soon deleted it. The low frame rates it caused on my machine made flying tedious and formation flight impossible. Take care - Morgan
@penneyfour I wonder if this is the same F-16 that the FSX Thunderbirds use then. Anyway, I understand the problem you seem to have had with the Aerosoft F-16, I had it installed on my old computer and it handled it like a dying computer. I then got my gaming computer and it works perfectly. Expand You Horizon!
Thanks, but I am not sure what you are trying to say by, "Expand Your Horizon". If you are encouraging me to try new things... All I can say is that I am trying my best. I encourage you to view some of my other videos... they are all quite different.
Hi there. Sure I can send you the soundtrack, but I no longer have a website from which you can download it. Send me an email on Youtube with your email address and I will send it to you. Take care - Morgan
Formation flyign is easy ounce u get the hang of it main problem is people are too shy on the throtel and scared to get close.. the closer uare the easyer it is and play withthat throtel alot.. think ahead of the jet.. correct it b4 it makes the move dont over correct but think ahead with practice it becomes secodn nature.. your wing tip to wing tip and u dotn nottice til l1 day some 1 goes.. WOW ... nice formation
Thanks, but I am not really that good... Formation flying in FSX is difficult to say the least. My only advice is that the lead aircraft maintain a steady speed with minimal throttle adjustments. I found that if the lead aircraft remain between 60 and 70% throttle, the trailing aircraft have enough "extra" power to make necessary adjustments to stay in formation. Also, it is best if trailing aircraft always stay in a spot where the lead pilot can have visual at all times.
thanks allot! that actually the same method i use but i still cant fly good enough with jets! :( well well. guess it all depends on practice practice and practice :) well well. keep up the good work!
Another tip that you might consider is reducing the sensitivity of your control stick so that the control surfaces don't react as quickly. In this way the lead aircraft will not jerk around and will be easier to follow.
Also, properly trimming out the aircraft (to level flight without any control inputs) is a an idea.
Great vids with TP. I have a lot of scenery paywares from sources like FTX and Aerosoft and Megascenery X and they are all awesome, but unfortunately they don't really cover the whole Earth. I've been considering using TP for a while. A few questions for ya:
1) Does using TP suffer from the common "blurries" problem or does that evolve into a tile-loading problem instead?
2) Is TP just textures that uses FSX stock mesh? (which means I can download custom high res meshes for optimal results)
Hi there... To answer question #1, I have suffered from both blurries and slow tile loading from time to time. I am an avid FSX.cfg file tweaker, but only so much can be done to improve things... to answer your quesiton straight... yes you might run into trouble with both. For question #2) Yes, TP uses whatever mesh is set at the highest hierarchy... if you have a hi-res mesh installed, TP will compliment it very well.... see my Molokai Vid... It uses custom 10m mesh. Good luck
Penneyfour, as usual this is a superb video, And lets not forget, great flying skills to go with it. You have completely sold me on tile proxy, i had been put off due to various right ups (i have a similar system to you, phenom 2 quad core, 8gb ram and ATI 4870 card) so im worried it may not run well considering i pretty much fly only fast jets. I think it is worth a try though. Thank you for your superb video's and please keep them coming.
Thanks again. Yeah TileProxy changes the whole sim experience. I would say it is a must for VFR pilots, but even if you fly IFR or the commercial route, it brings a new level of reality to the sim. For airport approaches that require visual references, TileProxy is my choice.
Very nice penneyfour. I hope to sort out the right services for mye area in tileproxy. Wonder how everyone get that smooth fraps videos. My computer lags alot when using fraps.. keep up the good work;)
Thanks... there are a few tricks you can try with Fraps. Firstly, if you have more than one hard drive, try to record Fraps to the drive that does not have FSX on it. If you are also running TileProxy, try to have FSX, Tileproxy, and Fraps all working on different drives. I generally do that. Secondly, try making Fraps recordings at half screen size and at 25 fps (rather than full screen size and 30 or 50 fps). That may help some. Take care
This is a freeware aircraft originally created for FS2004. I think I originally got it from simviation. All of the gauges do not work properly in FSX, but it is still a joy to fly from the back seat.
Hi FEFSLink41, if you are after a decent 2 seat F-16, Iris simulations have just released a superb F-16d, it has been compared to the aerosoft F-16 which is high praise indeed. It also has an excellent sound pack that comes included. Unfortunately, as with most payware aircraft it costs as much as fsx its self. Depends how much of a fan you are? i don't regret paying for the aerosoft F-16 one bit.
I will check out the Iris F-16D... I am a big fan of two seaters. I bought the Aerosoft F-16 as soon as it came out, but took such a framerate hit that I had to shelve it. :( When I upgrade my processor to an I7 with 2000Mhz ram I may give it a go again.
I havn't got the Iris Falcon myself but iv looked into it a fair bit. It seems to be there's a pretty even split of people who prefer the iris and those who prefer the Aerosoft. Apparently the Iris bird has alot more systems which means you could prob leave them off and get better frames than with the Aerosoft frame hog. Play around with your settings also and you may find a balance where you get great visuals and good frames, turn AA off for a start :) your video's show no lack, thats for sure!
I really like your B L U E movie and would like to fly TileProxy. Could you write a bit about your FSX settings? I have similar comp configuration but after TP install, I see good resolution only near the airport. How did you achieve this quality?
I am using standard settings in the proxyuser.ini file. This is service 3 (works well in the USA). service 1 works very well in Europe. When running TP, make sure you have your antivirus protection turned off so that they don't get blocked... also they will load faster. good luck
Last year I exclusively used Service type 3 (as I flew mostly in North America), but this year I have found Service type 1 to be exceptionally good for Europe and other parts of the world.
No, thank you for endless hours of enjoyment with TP.
Yesterday, I had a little flight from Holzdorf over to Göttingen and was running low on fuel so I landed at Erfurt. Service type 1 is working exceptionally well in Europe. I was trying to do some sightseeing along the border between Thuringen and Niedersachsen. What was once the border between East and West can still be seen in some places. I recall crossing into the DDR at Mackenrode more than twenty years ago! (hint about my next vid)
Thanks! There are several options... You can download the video and convert the file to MP3, or I can send you a link to where you can download the .wmv and .mp4
Thank you... Do you have an iPod touch (that can view video) or the iPod mp3 player? The reason I ask is because I have many of my soundtracks as both .mp4 (video) and .mp3 or .wav files. The mp4 files of course include the original flight video as well. Also, I may have accidentally erased the post you made today on my "Rafael" vid... Sorry bout that.
Spectacular as usual Penneyfour! Can I suggest adjusting your sight picture for formation flying? In most fast-jet aircraft with fairly high wing-sweep, looking down the leading edge is the usual military protocol. It's trickier at first but I know you have TrackIR, which makes it easier!
Fantastic. My favorite plane with the F-16 and shot in my neck of the woods here in Washington. Can't get any better than that, can it?
Master of tileproxy! Now I have to go back to the drawing table and do something new to measure up again. Maybe I have something in the works already :)
