  • I'll sell my zonda for this

  • lulz @ Veyron fanbois, especially if they never saw / touched / drove / owned a Veyron, and never will... You know who you are, hehe :D

  • what meansthe TBC in 0-60 under 3 seconds (TBC)??

  • nice video, but whitch is the specific time of 0-60 mph??

    2.1, 2.2, 2.3,....

and everyone wish have one, why this car isnt produced in mass??

  • looolz another "Veyron beater".

Please DO post these videos on Youtube, they're fun and perhaps informative too, just leave poor Veyron alone, you can't beat all the tech that's gone into it by putting an engine in your lap.

    Still thumbs up!

  • ten chlap umí jezdit jen rovně ..

  • wtf is that in the passenger side at 2:07 watch it move around Is that his backpack or something? o.O

  • Big engine in a small car...hmm...thats good

  • The comparisons are useless. Anyone could take a veyron to 300km/h while drinking a cup of tea As to this caterham most people would be shit scare just to cruise around. GREAT car? YES! FAST car? HELL YEAH! Compared to Veyron? As a car? It's nothing :x Remember Veyrons weren't made for racing ;)

  • omg the sound, incredible sound

  • great track day car ,too bad they lack in the looks dept very kit car-ish

  • I never really thought about it until now but I don't want to own one of these for one reason. You will inevitably need to one day get into another car. Whe you do you will die when you turn the wheel at 80 km/hr for a hard right hand turn and you sedan just explodes in failure as it cannot handle your caterham style driving. I cannot own a caterham because it wil ruin every following driving experience that takes place in any other car!

  • brutal !!

  • This is how Europeans do it. 2,4 liter engine with 550 hp.

Americans get the same hp out of 8.4 liter in the Viper. This thing can lap a viper easily on any track. It weighs less than half its weight.

  • Yeah, the only problem is reliability. And I'm not ragging on it or anything, I'm just saying. An engine like that, one thing goes, everything does.

  • Yeah I know the reliability issue.. But when the Viper came out it had a 10 cylinder 8 liter truck engine with something like 300 hp. Thats just lazyness and rubbish quality. Its a joke. They pulled more hp out of 8 liters in the 60s. I know this Caterham is extreme but there are hardly any american cars that gets any efficent hp out of their engines. What is the big engine for then.. burning fuel ?

  • I will agree with you though on some of the crap being just quite sad. Point in case: 1978ish Chevy Nova with the 305. Only an American company could make an engine that size that makes the same amount of power as my stock CRV.

  • My father collects american classic cars and hes got a Dodge Mopar thing from 1964 and its got exactly the same performance figures that todays Viper has... Not much has changed in USA has it.

  • you must not pay any attention, its a supercharged v8 not a 4cyl

  • Agreed. I am not even Euro...haha.

  • @Janusha i agree, one problem is that they should at least put up the roof because its so fast and light that it can get you mad because of the air movement

  • @Janusha sure it's the same HP but we get nearly 3 times the torque

  • Its a myth that you need 7-8 litre engines to get torque. You can achieve the exact same with high revs instead.

  • torque is useless at high rpm

I was talking about the low range 2-4k

  • Comment removed

  • Why dont you explain to us how torque works and how its different from horsepower.

  • well this is one car you don't wanna hit no bugs, given the whole no windshield thing

  • Motorcycle helmet...

  • Well, I am approaching 60 years, and my old Super Seven twin cam de dion is approaching 30 years, but I think I could handle this things power no sweat. The CHP around these parts may have other ideas though.......

  • Mad McHatters in de house!! Sell everything for aroad legal kart !!!

  • Looks like a contender for the most dangerous car ever award, but I still want one!

  • wow, wearing no helmet in this monster is really interesting :)

  • I would be just crapping in my pants after this passing by from a meter distance at top speed :O

  • Ye this car rules and its veyron-beating but in what. Cornering speed and acceleration? I doubt you can beat a veyron acelerating, th veyron launches pretty well every time thanks to the traction control and awd. The veyron has more top speed, air conditioning, radio, security and yeah, cost more than 1 million xD

  • if they took both to drag strip, my money would be on caterham..

  • The Veyron would be slower than this around most race tracks. That is what you pay for.

The Veyron is amazing but its not a track car.

  • Who cares about all that? The Caterham would just thrash the Veyron on a race track. And who needs a radio when you have THAT engine noise? I think the Caterham could beat the Veyron in acceleration, if the right person drives it. The Veyron is probably much easier to drive though.

  • That car is the tits.

  • Maybe you want the acceleration of a bike and the cornering speed of a car ??!!!

  • thats not 2 firebird engines m8, its a v8

  • Yah Freakin" Hoooo

    (props to Ice Man)

And a Flappy Paddle Gearbox !

    My insides are all squishy.

    Screw the Corvette Clearance sale...

    I WANT ONE.

    Canadian Dealer Please?

    (Summer's here)

  • holy friggen crap

  • nothing like maximum power joined with minimum safety ^_^

  • yes, yes...

  • That is brutal.

  • *lusts*

  • that's what you call bump steering! 1:10

  • that thing has so much acceleration it's mind blowing

  • is that a paddle shift or an auto?

  • Very much a paddle-shift!

  • well seeming that the bugattis only got 550bhp per tone and this has nearly 1100bhp per tone i think round the track this may be the new lap record king of TG in IMO

  • and oh yes its much faster the guy driving it is andy walsh ex f1 test driver and his hands are moving that fast (the vids not speeded up)

  • I own a RS500. Is this much faster and can I just have an engine shipped to me or must I buy the entire car.

  • would your car be able to take the capaticy of the 2.4 litre V8 in the Levante? maybe you would have to inquire to caterham about that.

  • The whole car is built from the ground up - though if you have the dollar it can't hurt to give RS Performance a call!

  • Does this car have any actual lap times on paper, at any tracks?

  • In the near future we hope to post some actual track footage. Thanks for your interest!

  • proper sports car and made in uk, nicely done

  • why no levante on top gear didnt caterham want to top the board

  • Nice vid, but why so badly edited?!

Would love to see the Stig in one of these!

  • Sadly the amount of footage we had wasn't enough for a proper feature-edit, though hoping to rectify that soon!

And yes, Stig would probably have a blast - would be interesting to see it beat the Veyron lap posted yesterday on Top Gear! That would put all the naysayers to rest ;)

    Thanks for the comments!

  • where is veyron?

  • Way behind it lol naa they just mean it accelerates faster i think

  • This video is to demonstrate the relative power. The actual power/weight is heavily in favour of the Levante.

Those who are expecting a Veyron - sorry to disappoint, but the hyphen in Veyron-Beating is important!

  • those big lumps couldnt get round a circuit to even come close to this caterham

  • with a proper paddleshift, not the usual road car toy :)

  • Good fun, but you may as well have a superbike. That's not a car?

  • a car w free supply of iron! i mean imagine how many bugs ud swallow driving this thing!

  • Hi - Not selling anything, just trying to get people to park in safer car parks...

If interested watch 'Criminals Operate in this car park' Thanks

  • still 0-60 under 3 seconds? so its close to 3 when they say that like 3.8 etc.

which means i still havnt seen anyone beat the veryons acceleration from 0-60

also is that car road legal? has to be road leagal to compete in veyron league.

i know several cars that are "faster" then veyron so i aint hating on every car that Vs. it. i appreciate what they do - faster to 200 or whatevr, or higher top speed. fair enough

    but acceleration still untouched.

also another title as ULTIMATE ROAD CAR

  • I'd place good money that it has a faster 0-60 than a Veyron bobnos. It's 500bhp and 500kg, which is, what, twice the power-to-weight ratio. I'd say a 2.4 or 2.5. Veyron's claim 2.5 though most road tests done by press manage around a 2.9. Still, for an 8th the price this little toy does it quick enough, and I doubt much will keep up around corners and braking. And yeah I think it's road legal. I wonder how long before it flips if the speed limiter were to be removed.

  • when people say under 3 seconds (soz i said 3.8 i meant 2.8 - typo).. people usually mean something close to 3. half a second is no where near close in racing terms.

tests has shown 2.5 seconds. and the test for this car is under 3 seconds. i rather say 2. something then under 3.. obviously it was close.

anyways my main point was the car is a ultimate car. this is a car for speed only its focus is soo mediocre.

  • but all in all they have produced an engine that is making a mark for itself. :D

but as a car -- veyron in my opinion takes it

  • You should look up the Lingenfelter 427 Twin Turbo Corvette. Street legal and 0-60 1.97.

And no, that's not a typo.

  • Bullshit! Corvetts are not that fast even with twin turbo! No traction....

  • Look it up. John Lingenfelter knew his stuff...

  • Quite right - that has some stomp!

Bloody thing would never take a hairpin-bend at speed though ;)

  • It's a 2001 btw. It cost about $165k at the time, probably a bit more now.

  • Yes - Road Legal. You get a 2-day driving course when you buy one!

  • What about funeral costs?

  • podes morir en cualqier auto pero igual el caterham posee un chasis tubular

  • HAHA., billyposter...best comment i've seen today, especially since it was a reply to the maker of the video.

  • @RacecarTV Bit it's 0-60 doesnt match the Veyron nor does it have as high a top speed

  • @bobnos FWIW theres a 4wd caterham with two hayabusa engines that does 0-60 in under 2 seconds. Also the Veyron 0-60 times posted is not actual times. IIRC they got that number on a dyno so it has the POTENTIAL to get those times but never actually does.

  • The Veyron may be fast but I bet you dont get the same thrill as this...

You buy one or the other in my opinion if you want to have fun you bay somthing like this, if you want comfort you buy a Rolls... the Veyron is nether one or the other...

I would have one of these any day over a Veyron!

(Well I would have the Veyron, sell it, buy this then spend the excess money on boose a bitches...)

  • @bobnos It is not in the as you called "veyron leaque" - a step above that - because it is a performance car not a fat GT for drag strips ovals and mommy's weekend shopping. ^^

  • for get the car, how much will new kidneys cost?

  • now ask yourself the question how much quicker does this thing go round a corner than a caterham roadsport, or caterham r300/400/500. Answer, not much I suspect.

Wonderfully fast in a straight line for people needing twice the bhp per tonne of the supercar beating r500.

Personally I'll take a R500 and keep £70k in the bank thanks. As an engineering exercise I take my hat off to you.

  • oh shit now thats fast
