@OrpheusHart It's funny that even though this song has alot of effort put into it, the main thing they want us to hear is that bad, but hilarious singing?
@SicilianEskimo Why should it surprise you? If you watch the actual episode and listened past Scootaloo's "so-so" lyrics, this is the very song you would hear.
So...a totally rad 80's power ballad wins the prize for COMEDY...while people like Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber get multimillion dollar deals to sing on the radio...
I swear I just realized this... in the beginning of the video, when it's just their heads, you can actually see their bodies very dimly lit, showing how they're standing. I can't believe I never noticed that until now!
@MrDeathknight13 That would be a sound effect from the show itself. Normally, sound effects are mixed into the center channel (which is why vocal only cuts of this song have all the sounds in them). That effect, however, was placed onto the right audio channel, causing it to be present in this video due to this one being made from the isolation of said right and left channels from the center (vocal) track.
@Haloman2023 If somebody played this song, without telling me it's from my little pony, I'd honestly think it was actually and old 80's hard rock track I've never listened before. That's how good it is.
I love how at the end the lead guitar is following similar notes that the vocals are. I just wish it didn't cut off, though - I would have loved to hear a wailing high note just before the stage crashes. XD
@hotelmario510 Or any hair metal vocalist will do. I can see how Dee Snyder would work but how about Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)? I think he'd knock this one out of the park.
@hotelmario510 I won't argue with that. Bret Michaels, Sebastian Bach, Paul Stanley/Gene Simmons, hell even Dave Mustaine (I know that's not hair metal, but his vocals are epic)
@hotelmario510 While we're on topic, Freddie Mercury or Bruce Dickinson would really make this an epic tune, but maybe switch up the instrumentals a bit (Replace the synths with clean guitar arpeggios, make the distorted guitar bits heavier, beefier drums and bass, etc)
At 0:24 (the lead-in) and 1:01 (the chorus) the chord progression is almost exactly like Cutting Crew's "I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight". Someone ought to do a mashup of those two songs, if it hasn't been done already!
@theperfectone121212: I knew it was inspired by IJDiYAT, but I'm not as familiar with FtB or TFC, so I would have to listen to those again to spot where they're referenced or quoted here.
@theperfectone121212 The opening solo sounds like a bit from the opeing of FtB, while the chorus and guitar part in the middle reek of The Final Countdown.
I know the lyrics have been taken out (well, not including the subtitles), but I think I've listened to the original song so many times that I can swear my mind can perceive them actually singing in this track.
@DaneGraphics Sure! The music was ripped by isolating the L & R audio channels from the 5.1 surround sound mix of the show, using Audacity 1.3.13. (The center channel contains voice - mute this and 90% of the time you're left with a clean music/sfx-only track). The karaoke lyrics were done in Sony Vegas.
@infinitydash It can also be done with stereo at the cost of most lower mid-range and bass. It sort of requires - to touch + and + to act as - to other +
The goal of their group works only for them. Put it to somethin like...I dunno, Power Rangers, and the whole theme song is like: "We are the Super Mark Power Rangers! On a quest to find out who we are! Kickin butt and doin hero stuff, wherever we are! Shalalalalalaaa!! AAAAAA!!"xD
I really liked the original version; I honestly expected the crowd to cheer after it. All the fillies were actually very good at what they did, the only problem was how Scootaloo started going off-key at the end. Hearing it with Sweetie Belle's vocals probably would have been better, but I can't see them redoing this song (Not in any canonical product, anyhow). That would be an extraordinary way for them to get their cutie marks though.
After I watched the original, I was thinking how awesome this song could be if only it were sung without purposely butchering the vocals. This video is a good step in the right direction!
@billibu Check out AlisaBethification's cover of this song. It's the only one I've found so far that's actually on-key (i.e. doesn't try to sound like Scootaloo), and it sounds really good.
Wow, the instrumental sounds really cool. It gives me hope that someday there will be a proper vocal version. Too bad they couldn't find 80's drums, though.
I could tell my brother(who is NOT a brony)that this song was from a My Little Pony show and there is no way he would believe me. That's how awesome this song is.
@Blaze1289 Given the number of times characters have spontaneously broken into song with full accompaniment, I'm partial to the fan theory that Equestria just magically supplies backup music for such things.
I had really wanted to mash this up but I hadn't known how to approach it until now (like, do I use Scootaloo's vocal "contribution" or have the song as the backing track for another singer who isn't completely tone deaf?) ...but this really narrows it down. Thank you tons for posting this, by the way!
@MrAnalpfropfen I'm working on it right now. I was going to make a high-energy mashup but the acapella I had originally chosen would have taken a lot of manual time-syncing for it to work and it was too long for the song anyway (surprise!)... solution: I found a different acapella! Plus it seems to work a lot better anyway, although I still have to sync everything up manually and it's more of a slow, emotional song than I had originally planned for it to be.
...you know, their show really would have been fantastic if they'd stuck to their talents. I've designed stage sets and run concert lighting for years, and the coordinating elements they'd set up for this performance would have worked out fabulously if each filly hadn't been trying to manage the respective aspect of the show she was worst at executing.
A proper Take 2 - with Sweetie Belle on vocals, Scootaloo on choreography, and Apple Bloom on set design - would probably be just about perfect.
