You can hear a distinct ghost of "I know I'll Go Crazy if I don't go Crazy Tonight" in the first few bars of this too, I wonder if that song also grew out of older B sides?
IT's amazing to be able to hear early takes of songs compared to what they eventually turned into, gives me great hope as a songwriter that it's ok if things don't come together right away when writing something!
to my mind beautiful day is better than this song.the guitar is less expressiv in this song. i think it's just a bad copy than beautiful day but it sounds good 'cause it's U2 =)
I really think Bono feels songs like these have been 'done' by them and doesn't take them into serious consideration for albums. He goes for the more intricate and deeper or complex songs-that may not translate into air time on radios. This is too bad. I think he needs to put out songs even though they sound like "U2" -edge was trying out songs once and Bono said no that sounds like U2--Edge gave him a dirty look and I think Bono relented and the result was ATYCLB? NOT sure about that tho!
i cant figure out why do you say that this song "later would became beautiful day" it is not similar to it, maybe the edge riff sounds a bit "beautifual day", but if you didnt say that, i wouldnt never realise that the song had something of beautiful day... see you
There are a number of reused lines in this song, most of which have been mentioned. The "dream out loud" one was not only in Acrobat but in Zooropa (the song) as well, and the line "turn this song into a prayer" is used on the live version of Sunday Bloody Sunday (Slane I think it was?) Also, the bit at the beginning "to be the bee and the flower" is in Levitate, but that song wasn't released either, so I guess it's grand. Still, this is in my top 3 U2 songs, I love it to pieces!
hello everyone! God "ALWAYS" will be there to give you beautiful music like this and all the love and support you need! Agree with you twochord...the "junk" of the great bands - like U2 - is still better than the best work of most bands...Mercy is another good example of a "discarded" U2 song....

"You can Dream so dream out loud" is actually basically a lyric in Acrobat so... Still nice lyrcis but the one you quoted is from another song already on Achtung Baby. haha.
yeah thats why i find myself listening to their last 2 albums and leaving there new one in its cd case... trust me the new album doesnt carry the same magic as there last 2..
maybe its just not for you. Some people cant stop listening to their new album while others, like you, cant stop listening to their last two album. I personally enjoy zooropa and pop sometimes more than the joshua tree, that dosent necessarly mean that either album is better.
Exactly its a matter of taste, for me i thought that Atomic Bomb was the perfect album.... Same with All That You Cant Leave Behind, Zooropa is the type of album we kinda forget about and forget to list as a classic, but you dam well know as soon as it plays in your car you realize it should be listeened to more... Its a matter of taste and Pop has more great moments than there new album, each album has a few good songs but there new album just doesnt hit me the same way, its prob just me..
Try Unknown Caller, Magnificent, Breathe, FEZ, I'll Go Crazy, Stand Up Comedy, Cedars of Lebanon, White As Snow - FUCK IT - try the ENTIRE album - it's AMAZING!
Trust ME - you have NO idea what you're talking about - NLOTH is as good as ANY other U2 album after you have gotten to know it - it's just not obvious - you're rewarded on repeated listens - you're only cheating yourself to shelf such great music.
I think had they used the alternate version of NLOTH instead and then cut Unknown Caller and added Mercy after Stand Up Comedy it's be easily their second best album ever right after Achtung Baby but as it stands I'm not sure where it ranks. Top 4 for sure.
and I never realized I'll have that pop touch again, but they did spend decent time and even themselves remixing it creates a diff new world. But for sure, for U2...there is NO LINE ON THE HORIZON
Always has a more intimate vibe than Beautiful Day; it's simpler in compositional dynamics. I prefer this to Beautiful Day, as a personal preferences, but I recognize the 'superior composition' of Beautiful Day, by normal professional compositional commercial production standards.
I couldnt agree more, in fact i think they could of kept this song for there new album, and called it "Always: still beautiful"..... This song is first single worthy and U2 should focus on these type of songs... There new album is a bit of a dissapointment for me!!
The album doesn't really 'grab me' so much, except for Breathe and Unknown Caller, but the live performances of Breathe, Magnificent, and I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight on David Letterman are great, and, the live performance of No Line On The Horizon with host Lauren Laverne is really good to. En el opinion mio.
The entire album falls right into place over time - if you give it a chance you will soon be telling people that there isn't a bad song on the album - which there isn't!
Honestly, my favorite song is Beautiful day, and it ranks number one out of a list of 129 u2 songs I ordered from favorite to least favorite.(yes, it was hard to complete)That said, this song is different enough and u2ish enough to have been a completely different song with only minor relations to Beautiful Day. It's a great song that I wish they had on one of their albums. The "always" part reminds me of ELO's Time album and the song "Your's Truly 2095."'s chorus.
this song wudnt have bin as big as beautiful day but i think its more u2 i wish they wud have released wat they made orginally instead of being so secure and risk free because i reli like this track and i like native son better than vertigo.

Well, when a band release a single cd, they usually put in it some other songs, like unreleased material, demos or remixes to make it more atractive to buyers... that's a b-side... ;)
When singles were released on 45s (vinyl) the single would be on side a and a lesser song - possibly a song rejected from the album etc - would be on side b
@Carelesshottie1 On 45s there were two sides. The "B: side was the opposite side of the other in vynil. This is the song in the opposite side of the "A" side, the main song the record company pushed.

@Carelesshottie1 Exactly @mixelangel. Back in the vinyl days (and of course carried into the CD age), a 7" single would have a "B" side to the "A" side. Often, and at BEST, these were songs not released on the album corresponding to the "A" side it was promoting. The Smiths were great at this, The Beatles, U2, REM. The greatest were one off singles with the A/B both new songs unavailable on LP...i.e "A Celebration/Trash, Trampoline & The Party Girl" by U2.
Exactly how I feel. You can tell just listening to this song, as awesome as it is, that Beautiful Day is better; perhaps more polished or just finished is a better description. Regardless, this is an awesome rough draft, and a lovely song on its own.
he does smoke if you read u2byu2 he tells you he smoked because he liked what it did with his voice. he still smokes now but not as much i guess, the only reason you dont see him smoke now is because you never see celebrities smokeing now like they used to because it would be classed as endorsing it now.
This song is so sweet and made me cry the first time I heard it. Bono is such an amazing singer even though he is a smoker his voice hasn't changed one bit!
wow his voice has changed a TON lulus.(read about the pop era recordings if your interested). i still love his voice but if you listen to with or without you from RnH then listen to something like the boston concert its night and day. ALWAYS loved this b side tho. it came with my ATYCLB cd back in 2000!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Or if you were a real U2 fan like me you would already have the CD single in your collection like i do, this song is eight years old, Jamie! Old news buddy.
yeah, indeed, this song to me fits the how to dismantle an atomic bomb album more than the all that you can't leave behind. the middle eight part, i also hear some bits and pieces of miracle drug in there
this song is great of course it reminds you of beautiful day but on the other hand it s diffrent!I´ve heard all their records but their still a lot of songs ive never heard before ,amazing
At first, I kinda underrated this song, cause it was inevitable for me to compare it with Beautiful Day. But it's really grown on me, particularly because of the lyrics.
Nice, hearing this it makes me wonder why so many people bash U2 when even the stuff they throw away is better then everything else out there at the moment.
Beautiful Day is amazing....however the song Always is just mind blowing..just listn to the lyrics and you will know where that extra money went in the studio. U27 if you have the means, I highly recommend picking it up...it is so choice.

Sometimes the B side songs would become very popular.=)

@Carelesshottie1 Exactly @mixelangel. Back in the vinyl days (and of course carried into the CD age), a 7" single would have a "B" side to the "A" side. Often, and at BEST, these were songs not released on the album corresponding to the "A" side it was promoting. The Smiths were great at this, The Beatles, U2, REM. The greatest were one off singles with the A/B both new songs unavailable on LP...i.e "A Celebration/Trash, Trampoline & The Party Girl" by U2.

cool song! but i more like beautiful day!

Exactly how I feel. You can tell just listening to this song, as awesome as it is, that Beautiful Day is better; perhaps more polished or just finished is a better description. Regardless, this is an awesome rough draft, and a lovely song on its own.

Oh yeah this is an A+ rough draft...

I bet you havnt read the boook NOOB!
mastert205 3 years ago
he does smoke if you read u2byu2 he tells you he smoked because he liked what it did with his voice. he still smokes now but not as much i guess, the only reason you dont see him smoke now is because you never see celebrities smokeing now like they used to because it would be classed as endorsing it now.
MrRicho1986 3 years ago
Bono Is not a smoker in real life u fools, He smokes for the Videos Are you Dull?
mastert205 3 years ago
No you're dull. He does smoke (or did, I dunno if he's quit).

This song is so sweet and made me cry the first time I heard it. Bono is such an amazing singer even though he is a smoker his voice hasn't changed one bit!
LULUSOCCERBABE 3 years ago 3
He isnt a smoker!
mastert205 3 years ago
wow his voice has changed a TON lulus.(read about the pop era recordings if your interested). i still love his voice but if you listen to with or without you from RnH then listen to something like the boston concert its night and day. ALWAYS loved this b side tho. it came with my ATYCLB cd back in 2000!

"The soul needs beauty for a soulmate"
Bono tucked that line in his pocket for a few years and dusted it off for "A Man and a Woman" on HTDAAB.
GroverParachutes 3 years ago
"To be the bee and the flower" is also a line from Levitate. :)

How about "if you dream, then dream out loud"?

Read the comments/description of this video. It's a "pre-version" of Beautiful Day... We call this a work in progress.

At first, I kinda underrated this song, cause it was inevitable for me to compare it with Beautiful Day. But it's really grown on me, particularly because of the lyrics.

Beautiful Day is amazing....however the song Always is just mind blowing..just listn to the lyrics and you will know where that extra money went in the studio. U27 if you have the means, I highly recommend picking it up...it is so choice.
