I remember when Kate released "The Whole Story" as a Greatest Hits package with this track on and thinking, "that's a bit presumptious to think a new song might deserve to be included with those other moments of genius". Mind you, it only took ONE LISTEN to realise that it was perfectly placed!
It (and the fantastic video) is one of my absolute favourite tracks from the Greatest Artist (Male or Female) of ALL TIME.
Great song & video about The UK's experiments with sonic vibrations & their impact on matter. The U.S is doing something simliar currently regarding deep Oceanic sonar sub detection. Killing all life forms in it's wake. As a life long Musician I could not empathize more with Kate's outrage & disgust that sound ever be used in a harmful way.
This shows how mentally sick people r using 'science' for sick purposes for kicks to see 'what happens'! Science of now is not used to advance human civilization or protect the earth! These sick people who call themselves "scientists" create these nightmares calling them 'innovations' 'breakthroughs' & then thr sick creations turn against them! Nuclear Energy is an example! And it's all done for $ & someone is getting rich! Humans=Monkeys w/too much technology!
@dannyroca79 Well spotted. It really wouldn't surprise me if he did, he's got form. Artwork he did for The Auteurs 1996 LP 'After Murder Park' on the suggestion of lead singer Luke Haines, featured his distorted face on a bunch of schoolchildren. Cunningham then 'borrowed' this idea and went on to to use this trick again and again in his videos for Aphex Twin. Oh, and this video, like everything of Kate's is amazing!
Professor Jerry Coe does not exist although the initials may ring a bell. "Jerry Coe" is a sort of sonic pun. It refers to the Wall of Jericho and the sound of Trumpets that brought it down.
yes, it,s Hugh Laurie and Dawn Frech and this video is from 1986 . Actually, Laurie had a career of acting before he took the role of House and went to the USA pretending to be an American, most tough acting, he must speak with an American accent even in his private live, not to sound too \british as house;-))
@1qoostrich I advice anyone who only know Hugh Laurie as House to search for Blackadder(prince George) on you tube and "a bit of Fry and Laurie";-) now let,s enjoy Kate,s wonderfull song
@arosegrowingold Did you spot the reference to her record company EMI? The building at the end, 'Music for Pleasure' is presumably a piss-take of the slogan that EMI would always put on their cassettes back in the day. The powers that be initially wouldn't let Kate produce her own albums and after she eventually convinced them she never looked back.
One of my favourite music videos ever. It's great how it doesn't take itself totally seriously, but it is scary enough to keep the mood of the song. Beautiful. And it's really interesting how Kate is (comparatively) not in the video much. It's worth it for the blonde ghost Kate :) The background music makes my stomach turn, but in a good way, if that's possible. Love it.
It's like a pre-credits sequence for an episode of The Avengers.

So THAT's where Chris Cunningham got the idea for the screaming monster in the "Come To Daddy" video.
