  • You guys are amazing! I'm a fan!

  • does anyone know the notes for the melody? could be ABC, sheet, tab... : ) thank you

  • my trad band did this and with accordions doin drones an 2 girls singing it ..it was just as good as this but then as the girls finished the song a whole pipe band played it fast and it was amazing but this i believe is more professional

  • have you heard celtic thunder do this, the are amazon

  • as always, she is magnificient and wonderful singer.

  • @ MarkHarmer: Gents, this is purely phantastic, how the sense of the lyrics is reflected in the way the song is played and sung. The lyrics fit to my situation as I left home some years ago and old friends got lost, new ones found. This song makes me happy and blue at the same time. I did not find your tour dates on your homepage, can you tell me where I can find them? Three thumbs up!

  • Beatiful song, you guys sure have talent, keep up the good work

  • This is absolutely fabulous. Beautiful voice and backing music.

  • holy sh*t, listen to this full blast....................dougie would, and should be proud. cheers guys, im now more homesick than ive ever been.... lol

  • I love this version of Caledonia - definitely the best I've heard. She has a beautiful voice! Wonder if I can download it to my i-pod.

  • Great song and this is a beautiful rendition.

In the key of C which makes it easy to play along to.

  • I think its sweet how Lynn and Joe make eye contact through this song :)

  • Awesome!!!

  • Imagine how Scots feel when we are away from home, well I am going to fix that by making a wee bit of Scotland in Malta so in the next year look out for it the Saltire will fly high and the welcome will be there also

  • Me too although Im in Tokyo.

  • This song gives me goose bumps and I am actually sitting here crying. Had the best two years of my life in Caledonia and am returning for Hogmanay's and will for ever return. It's my home of choice!

says a German who now lives in Spain.

  • Your voice is wonderful and outstanding.

  • This song gives me goosebumps, very nice rendition!

    Alba gu brath!

  • I love this band! just amazing! I want to know more about you guys!

  • Thank you! See our website under the 'more' link, which also has info on where we're performing. Thanks for your nice comment - this is a wonderful song which we enjoy playing.

  • Yes, she is a powerful singer !! Dolores

  • Dolores Keane's version is best

  • i really really want to go back to scotland. national pride is amazing, that i should want to go back to my country after my parents took me to australia and i barely remember scotland :(

  • this group is fantastic are they still together can't find much info on them

  • Hi all, yes we're still playing! See the more info link for our web address which also has our gig info. Thanks!!

  • Beautiful song that stirs my Celtic soul excellent video - thanks.

  • You are australian, get over it.

  • great voice

  • love your voice, you are something outstanding

  • Hi - thanks sergaan. I'll pass your comments on to Lynne. I know she will love what you've said. We share a car going to gigs, and it's just brilliant when she practices to warm up her voice. It's like having the best ever car stereo system!

  • I hope she will know that she has a devoted fan from Moscow, Russia)

  • frankie millers is the best IMHO

  • Very nice, i have a question, what flute were you using?

  • despite you have ignored my letter that I send you few months ago... I like very much your music. The talent and a professionalism may do incredible things)

  • Thanks so much for your nice comments on our music, but I don't think we received anything. Really sorry if we appeared to ignore anything, but we really appreciate the comments.

  • beautiful whistle piece. what whistle is this... i'm trying to pick up a new instrument i think i've found it.

  • I love how the instrumentalists are playing in the song. Especially the whistler, he is amazing! But I don't like the singer's style, it doesn't really fit for the beautiful traditional song.

  • hat vielleicht jmd die noten zu diesem lied? am besten zugeschnitten auf geige??

    LG

  • beautiful version of a beautiful song

  • This song is very beautiful. And performance is also great.

  • celtic thunder is still better

  • amy macdonald is even better.....

  • i think its time to get your ears checked mate;-0

    her version is just awful.

  • Comment removed

  • i love them and that version

  • A fantastic version of the classic Dougie MacLean song. It does indeed make me homesick for Caledonia, for the Highlands and for the loughs of my youth. Soon, I shall return, maybe soon, tho it's been years, soon ... soon

  • the best song ive ever herd

    i am 12 and i have a gig at a bub

    and i'm singing this song

    BEAUTIFUL SONG , GOOD VERSION

  • We have to sing that at school

  • Wow a song for that boring little village not far from simcoe

  • Caledonia is Scotland.

  • Caledonia can also refer to Caledonia, Ontario. However, in this instance yes it does mean Caledonia in Scotland.

  • 'Caledonia in Scotland' ?

    Caledonia IS Scotland!!

If every one in the whole world is truly honest they would admit that deep down they want to be Scottish!

    ALBA Forever.

  • alot of people are =P afte rthe highland clearances there were thousands of scots who went worlwide, and thats only been afew hundred years ago.

  • Aye and you wonder why there is no love for the English !!!!!!

  • only a true scot says:the English.

  • I so agree with you Im so proud to have been born and raised in Scotland. Its amazing how many Americans so wish to be even a fraction Scots I dont blame them them at all Long Live Scotland and its people

  • This is so beautiful, I simply love it.

  • im very proud to be scottish i woudnt wanna be any other :)

  • Me too :)

  • I need to learn that at school

  • im scottish and irish and i cant sing this song without becoming emotional.

Scottish and Irish Pride till i die.<33

  • good song what is the little flute thing the guy is playing

  • its such a good scottish song its hard for somebody scottish to sing it cause its such an emotional song for scotland

    SCOTLAND TILL I DIE!!!!

  • dougie mcleans version is the best- no doubt about that. But I like this cover version as well. I have heard the others as well and none of them I like.

  • Thank you - we really enjoy playing this one. Lovely song.

  • And we love listening to it. Thank you and the band, great work!

  • wot a song iam english but not british up the celts

  • Very nice!

  • this song is wonderful

  • Very emotional but not too slow. Amazing indeed.

Nice interpretation. I'd love bagpipe version. *hinthint* =)

  • great song

  • Beautiful version! I love your voices, I've tried singing this numerous times, but, it's too emotional a song and I can't make it through...I'm envious of those that can. hahaha

  • I really love this rendition, Very emotional !!

  • beautiful, on a par with dougie mcleans version 10/10

  • Please let me know if you are ever in Canada. I would love nothing more than to see you perform this and many other songs live. Very well done!!!

  • Very beautiful.

  • This has to be one of the most beautifully performed versions of this haunting ballad...

    W

We need to hear more of you all!

  • Hi Mark,

I'm glad I found this here on YouTube, since Stage6 has shut down... (too bad - DivX is soooo awesome...)

I'm posting this on Seesmic for my friends to check out.

Thanks again - this is a beautiful piece.

  • What a beautiful song.

  • Sorry you didn't like it, Brucey62 - and yes, definitely it's not Dougie!

  • I am so happy you have had so many hits on this rendition. I made it a favorite and that was about 30,000 ago which was not all that long. Congratulations! I still think you have done the finest rendition of this great song. Granted, I am not a Scot, but I do know music, and it is done beautifully. Take care.

  • jeso they killed that brilliant song, and no its not dougie on the penny whistle

  • ok thx for the reply *^_^

  • Great job guys.

    Loved this version.

  • Who is the guy, who plays the flute ?

He Looks like Dougie Mclean, but if it had been him, wouldnt he have been the lead singer of his own song?

  • Beautiful voice. I loved it !!! I also want to learn to play this beautiful song

  • The music is beautiful but I'm not so keen on this vocal interpretation, would be a nice instrumental.

  • Thanks - there's a nice instrumental verse about 2'24" in

  • I like this version, I also like Dougie McLean, Amy Macdonald and Paulo each has something unique in style to offer. My only comment with Amy Macdonald's version is that it is too short..... I think if Scotland is looking for a new anthem this one should definitely be considered as its very patriotic and the lyrics are very apt as a tribute to Scotland.

  • I like this version, I also like Dougie Maclean, Amy Macdonald and Paulo each has something to offer. My only comment with Amy Macdonalds version is that it is too short.....

  • This is wonderful music and a wonderful performance. Thank you for posting it.

  • Dougie MacLeans version has yet to be beaten in my opinion, although this version is one of the better ones I've heard. The song is so good that it's almost impossible to ruin it, but Paulo Nutini and Amy MacDonald should be cast out for what they've done to this magnificent song.

  • I like what Amy MacDonald has done to this song - I think she's great. But very rarely does something beat the original!

  • Magnificent interpretation of a very beautiful song. This group is the one better good for the interpretation of Caledonia. All the instruments of Celtic folklore are reunited. Fabulous

  • Thank you!!

  • Beautiful Ballad.

  • I just luv dis version, its only brill...

  • Oh this is a beautiful song and this lady sings it so well. The musicians in this are awesome, too. I could listen to this for a long time, so peaceful and relaxing.

  • without a doubt the best version available.Celtic woman are good too but they are better at putting a show on than singing.

  • nah, paulo nutini/amy macdonald best :)

  • Yer kidding surely? Paola Nuttela is an inarticulare w@nker who wouldn't get a turn in a Glasgow pub.

  • Just amazingly beautiful. What else could you say about this one? Sends shivers down my spine... :-)

  • The bizzzzzzzz!! Isnt this version d best ever!

  • *sigh* I miss home...

  • who is the group that sing this version???

  • I like most versions. They all have something I like.

What I like about this version, is that it is about the music itself. I think Celtic Woman is acting a bit too much. On the other hand, she creates a cool atmosphere with her dress and stuff.

I like Dougie MacLeans voice very much.

I like Rapalje's (Dutch folk band) version a lot too. They sing and play with emotion. Only, you have to know the lyrics, you can hardly understand what they're singing. :P

  • I dont give a dam to your comment guy but this version is realy wonderfull and its my opinion. If you prefer the celtci woman version its up to you but its only your opinion.

  • Comment removed

  • this is dougie macleans song!!! and his version is waaaaaaaaaay more heart felt!!!!

  • It depends on what you like. Lisa Kelly is very smooth, very polished. Dougie MacLean is rough and real. Slante(or whatever the group in this vid is called) is somewhere in between, more polished, but not excessively so.

  • i cant log on youtube without playing this at least once. Beautiful! I think I shall have to buy your album Tir an Ceol!

  • sorry people but lisa kelly's version is so much better i understand dougie wrote it but why dont you ask him who sings it best hes a honest man and he will tell you lisa kelly knocks it out of the park

  • I love the song in both versions. Unfotunately I've never been to scottland but would really like to... I like the way they talk, their accent 'r' lol

    (I'm German^^)

  • dougie maclean wrote the song so he does the best version................ obviously!

anyway brings a tear to my eye and av not even left scotland.....yet.

    scotland forever.x

  • i thought it was doloras king (sry bout spelling)

  • very good version of the song, Dolores Keane is the only person whom can sing this song properly

  • BRING ON DELORES!! This is still a very good substitute, but from somebody who isnt particularly a ballad/celtic music fan Delores Keane really nails this song. Somebody please post it!!!!

  • Great song but the very best version ever is by Dolores Keane, celtic woman do a decent version too

  • agreed

  • Hey! I also like this version. Although it's different from Celtic Woman, it's still sound soft and sweet ^^.

  • I really enjoy this version of the song. It isn't over produced and too shiny. The accents cutting through make it all the better. The realness of the music and the trueness of the voices take me back to the days that I spent in the UK. Thank you for posting this. I am gonna fav you!

    ~Thanks from the States.

  • Delores keane sings a much better version of this song. Although I cant find it on youtube. Thanks for the posting still the same. Can any1 find Dolores singing it?

  • Nice job on the song. Like all folkies, you undoubtedly treasure your personal images, but you look like out of work loggers, led by a Lilith Faire reject. Try losing some weight and dressing just a touch more for yor audience and a touch less for yourselves. or maybe you want to limit your audience.

  • Intereting point - although we actually ARE out of work loggers!! But I think the truth is that Folk music isn't particularly fashionable, never has been, never will be. Personally I think of it as something to play and enjoy rather than something commercial - it is, after all, something you "do".

  • Out of work loggers? You should try it here in Beautiful British Columbia. Warning though, you may never want to leave, and oh yes we don't really put on womens clothing and hang around in bars.

  • Damm! You make a fair point and we did have a conversation about it on Saturday at our gig - although it degenerated into the "Lumberjack Song"!

  • Michel Palin is a dead man! lol

  • Beautiful!

Tell me when you come on in France!

  • Great. Thanks for posting this song.

    With greetings from Germany,

    OldPicker

  • Congrats guys,Caledonia is a beautiful song and you guys did an awesome job at it.I'd say you'd do Dougie proud.

  • Caledonia is the name of my great-great-grandma, from the mountains of western NC.

  • wonderful song it's amazing

  • Wow this is one of my fav versions of this song next to Celtic Woman. Beautiful job!!

  • That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  • sweet.

  • Beautifully done. You do Dougie proud.

    -jcr

  • Great! I love this song.

    Many greetings from Germany

  • hey!! I just saw you in stage 6 lol

  • Yes - I've uploaded a few of our videos there - the quality is about a million times better than YouTube!!

  • this song is so beautiful. I cant stop listening to it. thank you so much for posting it.

  • Thank you again...that's a beauuuutiful song!!!

  • Anytime we hear a song done by another, I think it's just in human nature that we always compare. That aside, it was a beautifully done and the group should be proud of there self's. If I know where I could get a copy of it, I would get it this minute

  • Check out Dougie Maclean )

  • i could write a page on how beautiful that performance was. on the other videos of yours that i just found, the woman is excellent on the bodhran. to my surprise and delight she has an exceptional voice as well! (that fellow in the blue with the long hair seems to be able to play just about every instrument under the sun) :D

  • That is one awesome song (and group)!

  • nice version but nothing compared to Dolores Keanes... shez a legend

  • Agree - a lovely version

  • Very lovely, very lovely.

  • This song was written by Dougie Maclean when his band was in Europe (Germany, I believe) and his thoughts and heart were looking towards his homeland. It is certainly a wonderful song about Scotland. (Not Ireland!) Dougie lives on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Hebrides!

  • Hi - thanks so much for the story of the song. Apologise for the "Irish" tag - I've added "Scotland" and "Scottish" to the tags so hope that helps people looking for things relating to Scotland!

  • Caledonia was the name the romans gave to Scotland, albas gaelic.

  • Am sorry but how can a song called "caledonia" be irish?? Caledonia is gaelic for Scotland

  • Not gaelic. Its what north of the wall was called when the romans were about.. and relax, all celts.

    Try alba.

  • Can anyone give me a bit of history on this song, brilliant song ! and very well played

  • Amazing performance! Makes me hairs stand up on end=)

  • Lovely, great to see some good music on You Tube :0)
