what is that huge digital synth sound at 2:07? from 1983, i'm guessing it might be a dx7. whatever it is it sounds fantastic! one of my all time faves.
i hope one day can meet you man, your music is part of my life, since 1990 i been listening in my country peru and i still listening you here in usa. special song for me: propellor is like one of my eyes............absolutely necessary thanks for exist
big thanks for upload this mr.ellard. i´m german and saw the severed heads in a small club in bochum/germany (the logo,~1986 together with skinny puppy) after that i bought all available lps and 12" :)
would be very nice if you have a video to *now an explosive new movie*
Same here. It was pretty much the voice over thing that did it for me, somehow it reminds me of the narrative voice from the old, cartooned Lord of the Rings movie. If there ever was one, maybe it's just my imagination. But I'm wondering if Severed Hands wrote and recorded the voice over themselves?
WOW... blast from the past... a song ahead of its time. I saw severed heads play in the back room of a pub in Surrey Hills in about 1983 (?) . There were about 50 people there and it went off! This 12 inch is still in my collection and stayed on my turntable for years. Thanks for posting this!
The back room of a pub in Surry Hills? The pub with the pool room with the rockabillies at the front, and the tiny club at the back? This wasn't that club called "Ozone" was it? I was at that gig, and yeah, there were only about 50 people there. If that's what you were referring to, it's one heck of a coincidence.
I have just seen it and it contains much of Severed Heads video footage. It it might not be a good idea to post it after all. We should leave it up to Tom.
@leslielove Out of concern for you: were you being mauled by a bear while typing, or can you really not spell Eddie Grant - Electric Avenue? (Took me a while to decipher that from your string of letters there!)
ComMerz is my favorite listening right now.(and I've given it a good review plus 5 stars on Amazon over here).I've been follwoing your music ever since the accident. Thanks so much for your cool inspiring stuff for so many years.(Got inspired so much I even bought one of Teisco analogue synth back in early 80's).Deep respect.
This is one of my favourite and most-played records EVER. It's been on every mixtape I have made for friends since I first heard it in 1984. That explosive noise solo and one-note drone does it for me every time. "Since The Accident" was one of the best and most quietly influential records of the 1980s. After all this time it still sounds fresh. Great video.
Brilliant just downloaded an album with this tune on it. I come from the uk so it is hard to find your music so i am glad i managed to download on i tunes keep up the good work mate.
I always thought i'd have to find the u-matic to see this.
I know there has been doubt over the about a fan base here in the us,but some of us literally grew up on severed heads. Trying hard to make sense of it at times.
What can I say? Punk didn't do it for me. Sam loves you is far more rebellious anyway. I upset alot of people with your music over the years and loved every minute of it.
Classic! I did like the 93 version, however, I remember just wanting to hear the original again. It must be more than 20 years since I heard this. I think I saw the vid on Edge of The Wedge, it looks familiar to me. Good to see you are still making music Tom, after all these years.
im peruvian living in usa,i heard severedheads in 1990 in one of my first parties(propellor)in peru,i just remember the melody after 5 years a friend gave mea cd ,can u imagine how big was my surprise to heard the same melody again??? thanks for posting this kind of stuff
Brings back memories of listening to this on John Peel, circa 83, in sarf east London, UK. Strangely, 14 years and 4 continents later, it just came on RRR in Melbourne, Australia. Cranked it up and it woke the toddler. Wicked.
relic ok but except video from autechre an richard djames ,consider that like a great art moment from two past decade it is almost stupid to mention that's it is old cause in several dimention of time this not even the case ,that video is totally actual think in term of quantum physical
Class is permanent. I was in a queue to get in a club (Prague5) in Manchester many moons ago and got talking to a couple of Aussies behind me. He couldn't believe it when I told him Severed Heads were one of my fave bands. Mutual adulation. BTW Did Kato get the girl??? Anybody know if Tom is gonna be visiting the UK.
Very cool song, but it's not TECHNICALLY Norwegian Death Metal, so people should stop categorizing it like that. I like when the spider jumps on the guy's face. That's cool. But it's not Norwegian Death Metal.
It may be a very late response but look for the video. You find it on there along with most other things. Best of luck. I still find it handier to check it out on YouTube though.
Now, I pause for some meditations on technology.... the use of new 'toys' often leads to a shallow 'initial' exploration of 'tricks'. however, this video has stood the 'test of time' and represents an interesting 'coal-face' of artistic intent and technology.
The silly voice over, has lead me to consider the subjective consideratin of mr. Ellard's perception of witnessing himself transported back to an earlier age, by way of VHS.
Truly, an Australain Historic relic of electronic guardianship.
wow. i'm blown away all over again. i had the opportunity to see severed heads live in tampa, florida, in the nineties...i've thought about the video for productions for "greater reward" and "all saints day" ever since. i would love to see those videos, if that's what you'd call them. and this was years and years before skyscrapers began occupying a sort of weird place in subconscious symbolism...!
Great! I got this off "The Art of Noise pt.1" CD and on a City Slab Horror vinyl (other vers.) as well as on a CD with 'Come visit the big bigot'...Great, great stuff, furiously original, well-made and produced, great use of experiments in sound, haunting electronic melodies with a dreamlike quality to it, oscillating between harmony and confusion, enlightenment and nightmare, I am thrilled this is now available, thanks to no less than the artists themselves, this is an incredible chance!

99% of experimental music is useless trash that has no impact on future artists creations and is just shallow and pedantic.
This is an exception to the rule.
May people continue to experiment.

I LOVE them
Wish they would tour the U.S. again.
Do they have a myspace page?
I would like to add them.

Severed Heads deliberately do not have any presence on Facebook or Myspace.
We will play America for cash.
TomEllard 4 years ago
I thought that may be the case when I could find any Sev.-heds on Myspace.
I held out for a long time myself, but then I needed a method to network, and get my tee shirt d-signs and artwork out there.
So...how much cash? :)
It might be cheaper for me to fly to Australia, eh?

I have read on the Rage Forum that the ABC will be playing some Severed Heads next weekend, Saturday January 12.

Their Rock Arena live performance in 1986 will appear 2am. Someone should tape it and post it.
I know Tom likes to post his own stuff but this will be copyrighted to the ABC. The ABC has recently stated that its OK the post old footage.
