  • Let's be honest here, we all know WHO was the best band at Woodstock.

  • ♥Rogeeeer!!

  • I would have to say that from 1965 to 1975 The best decade of Rock and Roll.

  • Who,Jim, Jimmi, Janis, Stones etc. Musians of that era where my life. My comments were mourning of a lifetime long gone. I hope this comforts u. Bye now!

  • Roger Daltry when he was lookin good..........hhmmmmmm. Course-so was I!!!!! boo hoo

  • @7outof9gone

    that all u care about?

  • how do you think they do it? what ,makes them so good?

  • this one song is better than everything hendrix did

  • @Blacksabbathman15 Hey man chill out on Hendrix- I love the Who- first saw them at Charlton athletic with SAHB in the mid 70's and the last time was in Adelaide in 2009 (I live in Australia now).

Remember- Hendrix may have been American but it was us British who discovered him, gave him his start and loved him first.

And he was the most creative guitarist who ever lived.

  • @Blacksabbathman15 Tell me, why's it always a frackin' contest with you guys? You got this treasure chest full of 100-carat gems recorded at Woodstock, and you light on one diamond and suddenly all the rubies, emeralds and sapphires suck.

  • Bad sound in this recording. I could hardly hear Entwistle

  • @dogofman You are listening for him in the Low End: That super loud fuzz thing is Entwistle's bass. In a small format group that works very well to get bigger sound .

  • @Geepsterr

What are you talking about? In a small format group?

Are you aware that Entwistle invented the method of playing guitar solo on the bass and still playing loudly hearable in a very loud rock band for it's time?

He enters for at example at 1:53 as Pete is playing comp on the guitar. And it's hardly possible to hear it in this vid.

  • @dogofman Power trio I'd call that small format ( plus singer ). I do power trio about half the time. Who just has a lead singer. About your other issue : Check you left speaker, & if that is fine see an audiologist. I have, & my left ear is the weaker one . The bass pedal tone at 1:53 is strong, way more than audible . This is a very good live mix for the time period . ... Entwhistle had a somewhat unique sound & approach, yeah but not the first to take leads on bass by any stretch . "aware"?

  • great performance and sound quality

  • fuck hendrix, the who stole the show. that spade didnt even come close

  • I think I remember hearing this song all the way in my crib back in that summer of 1969.... Pete Townsend sure plays a mean guitar.

  • Pete hated this gig but it sounds truly awesome.

  • Who the hell just compared Sinatra to The Who? Lol

Sinatra's amazing, but he's in a COMPLETELY different category than these guys. I mean, why even click this video if you're going to spout "this isn't music" nonsense that no one else really cares about? Of course it's music. What an ignorant statement to make.

  • Dawww, it sounds like it cuts off... ):

This is one of my favourite songs by The Who, and I was so excited to find a Woodstock vid of them playing it ! Townshend and the rest of the band look so young compared to when I saw them on the telly last year (during the superbowl ?) It only makes me wish I lived to witness the magic in person. P:

Anyway, thanks for the upload ! Gonna continue watching these Woodstock vids... <3

  • The Who played Woodstock? haha. Even though they're one of the best bands of all time, their sound was totally different from everyone else who signed on. I just remember Joe Cocker, Santana and Hendrix as the face of Woodstock ya know. But the Who is another Jewel in the festival. Especially because Pete was on Acid~! haha. Whoever played Woodstock on Acid is a God by my standards.!

  • @OHIOverdrive

watch jefferson airplane on woodstock, lol!

there probably isn't one drug not used by one of them during that gig!

especially the bass player is totally off this planet :)

grace sings like a goddess, even on her trip!

    so pure :)

  • I prefer to hear this EJ song with Who; the best version

    ed

  • @onlinelondon This song was made by Peter Townshend, not by Elton John.

  • @LEGIONARIO1970

Agree; this performance is really good.

Thanks for telling me about its origian

    ed

  • @onlinelondon You are wolcome, by the way, when I bought the first CD of Elton John 20 years ago I tought this song was his too. He made a very good version but nothing compares the original.

  • I'm just 15 and...

just kiding, i'm not one of these people who think they are the best because are young and listen good music. And i'm not one of these people who came and said bad things about the music of today.

  • aus "Tommy" supergeil wie alles von the who

  • ahh vinyl

    my youth all over again

  • You say "muthafucka", I say "You ignorant degenerate bastard."

You say "u fuckin faggot", I say "Are you THAT insecure?"

You say "suck yo daddy's cock", I say "My issues with my father didn't go that deep..."

You say "ima shot ya bitc!" ,I say "From behind that monitor? I welcome it."

99.97% of the internet's inhabitants are relentlessly plaguing the web with needless ignorance and nonsense that it's becoming unfathomable. Shut the hell up and just watch.

  • @mokyfellow

    What are you doing here?

  • @JokerishDish ....Who knows what I am doing here?

  • @mokyfellow sinatra better music than the who ??

even comparing them can just be a joke...

  • @mokyfellow dude no dude no

  • @mokyfellow if you don't like it, don't listen to it...simple as that. peace

  • danielle lightman say this a great song and a really good movie and a great play to see

  • is there anyone been to woodstock '69 .? .please share your experience there...

  • ahh when music was music...

  • I like how Entwhistle´s bass feedbacks

  • The Who; A band used by all others, to measure their own self worth.

  • meant to say you know how

  • You how I know your gay?You think Elton John's version of Pinball Wizard is the best.

  • @ErikDRed1 lol...........

  • @TheJasonvorhes if it werent for the who then green day wouldnt exist, idiot

  • @TheJasonvorhes ~just cause u do and you might not like good music when u hear it doesnt mean you should say idiotic things like that on the site.

  • @TheJasonvorhes your cock

  • @TheJasonvorhes Go Die

  • @TheJasonvorhes

    no they dont

yet in the meanwhile, your mom STILL swallows

  • the who touring without daltrey and townshend what??!?!?

  • I think when Grace Slick takes to the stage with Jefferson Airplane a few hours later, these guys where definitely one of the "heavy groups" she refers to.

  • dammit it stops right at the part where abbie hoffman gets on stage.

  • this is by far the greatest ROCK band in the world, and have been since they decided to show us what they could do.

    God rest their souls Moony,Enthwhitle.

play till you drop Townsend ,Daltrey

  • wonderful!

  • They were by far above the rest of the rock n roll crowd musically and creatively. The greatest rock band ever.

  • Pisses me off that they never put the camera on entwistle i bet the camera men that were filming then are kicking them selfs in the ass now

  • Amazing set of high powered anthems offered up by The Who at Woodstock. I can't believe they were that good...that early in their careers. Not to mention how they must have made the other artists feel.

  • they were unintentionally high during woodstock'

  • the sweet part is that they didnt even start playing till 4am and played a full setlist that night at woodstock..

  • @spark2390 No shit... I didn't know that, that's unheard of! I wasn't even really into the WHo untill I saw their Woodstock extravaganza!

  • @hotapplepie2009 their performance of; See Me, Feel me is incredible.

  • it's not unheard of, I saw a concert were the band 311 played straight for 4 and 1/2 hours straight, they played a whole setlist as well.

  • compare the very beginning: watch?v=OiC5BdIVfm8

  • @busterbone LOL!

  • Maybe the most entertaining band ever.. I just got one quick glimpse here of the ultimate entertainer, Keith Moon.

  • i love how johns bass feeds back after that one note during the opening riff :)

  • Abi Kaufman was the guy who beat down by Pete,

  • you all HAVE to see his movie Tommy. no matter what, it is the sickest rock oprah next to queen!!!!!!!

  • i saw it on vh1 classic. its awesome.

  • POST IT ROBB

  • woodstock!!!!!!!!!!!! i wish i was there.

  • lol, i think everybody does

  • yeah, great songs, great bands, great times, and lots of illegal goodies...

still, i'd love it if i was there!

  • i just wish the camera was still on when pete brained that stupid commie with his guitar ..

  • there was a recording of it just only audio but still i wish the same thing

  • when you give a listen, focus on John Entwistle's bass run......Man - he tears it up!

  • Ever since I was a young boy

    I've played the silver ball

    I love this song!!

  • SURE PLAYS A MEAN PINBALL !

  • @luiisluiis DALTRY, TOWNSHEND, ENTWHISTLE AND MOON, WHAT A GREAT BAND, THIS WAS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THEIR MATURATION PROCESS, CULMINATED IN THEIR 1971 ALBUM, "WHO'S NEXT", WHICH I THINK COULD BE CALLED A GREATEST HITS ALBUM WHEN YOU REALIZE ALL THE GREAT TUNES WHICH WENT ON ONE ALBUM. NOT A WEAK TRACK AMONG THEM

  • mmm i love it:D the who is best

  • for being spiked b4 they went on, these guys sure do still rock!!!

  • *bonk!*

  • This is a perfect live version. Ive never heard anything so brilliant. i love pinball wizard

  • Comment removed

  • What?

  • didnt pete hit a guy with his guitar right after this song, because he was trying to take his mic away??

  • Yes , I believe that it was Abby Hoffman who got up on stage wasted and Pete knocked him off

  • more than knocked him off...bashed him in the head with his guitar. What a bad ass

  • Haven't you ever seen the film called The Kids Are Alright, in which Pete explains about the very incident??

  • yup. and he said he was gonna kill the next mother fucker that tried to come on the stage.

  • man i love this song.

  • cant belive its been 40 years since woodstock and this generation of rock is still going strong!

  • John Entwhistle's STILL the greatest!

  • @SyvetheShairks Yes; John is dearly missed. He was one of the best Bass players of our time. Our time? The Sixties and early Seventies of course.

  • @SyvetheShairks youre damn right hes awesome

  • @SyvetheShairks

THE WHO STILL THE GREATEST ;)

  • @SyvetheShairks Let us honour him by at least spelling his name correctly: Entwistle

  • Uno de los mejores grupos de rock!!!!!

  • sensacional!!

  • espetacularrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Outa place,, but ahead of there time.

  • Woodstock, 69

  • woodstock è stato la rivoluzione della musica

    e i who sono grandi

PS keith moon il più grande batterista della storia

  • well said!

  • che ricordi .... che rimenbranze, ho i brividi a luglio, 25

  • this son must be about my brother

  • always loved the song. But what the hell does it mean?

  • I think it's about a pinball wizard.

  • It's a song about tommy, the "pinball wizard". The song is told from the point of view of a local lad (what it says in the booklet) who is watching tommy play pinball. The point of the song was that even though Tommy was deaf dumb and blind, he could still play pinball through the vibes that the thing gave out, and which is why the kid is amazed that he can play even though he cant see or hear.

  • just watch the movie tommy

  • it's about keith moon. he was a "pinball wizard"

  • No it wasn't, it's a song from a musical. Elton John did a version of it too.

  • I never really realized how much of an amazing voice Pete Townshend actually had, when he sings " how do you think he does it?" it really scared me for a second, because I didn't see the singer say it. I never knew Pete had a voice. I learned something today. lol :}

  • Great song from a great band! Check out my Youtube Channel for a Ukulele cover of Pinball Wizard!

  • holy balls john entwhistle has got the greatest tone ever

  • very cool tone indeed.

  • Hey kid get your facts right, Pete Townsend wrote it look up if you have too. or look on the tommy album. Elton only helped perform the song, its not on any of his albums either. -.-" mannn

  • fucking retard, go listen to ure stupid stuck up pop bands

  • yup Elton John was one of the best session keyboard players around that time

  • Personally, I don't like his songs, but you can't argue about it; he IS good. Really talented guy. I do respect though.

  • i wasnt close to bein alive 4 woodstock but l probably buy it on dvd

  • whos singing background on this

  • got to be pete right..?

  • Yes, you're right! It's Pete singing the "How do you think he does it?" and the "What makes him so good?".

His voice is so softly thrilling in this song (as usual, actually) even if he sings only two verses!

(Please, excuse my bad english, I'm French...)

  • I really like the way Pete sings: "What makes him sooo good..."

This may be my favorite live version of Pinball wizard.

  • you're english is better than most americans here

  • YOUR english you idiot!

    "you're" means you are

  • point in case

  • you mean "case in point..."

    ...joking...couldn't help myself.

  • HAHA! that was the funniest conversation i've ever read on youtube.

  • yeah if diffently pete

  • HelllllllYeah!

  • if you remeber woodstock its because you wasn't there...

  • haha so true

  • @Water209 Hahaha ;)

  • wat a great song.

you dont get bands like this, who smash their kits in and get pissed, and dont care but still make the best music.

    greatest band EVER!

  • After this concert, Pete tossed his guitar into the audience. You gotta wonder what ever happened to it.

  • I've read that it was quickly retrieved by a roadie.

  • Is there a known reason why the Abbie Hoffman incident hasn't been released on video? There were tons of cameras on when The Who played, I'm sure someone got some footage of Pete bashing that guy off the stage.

  • supposedly there was a camera tape change or something...conspiracy haha

  • haha i agree, someone needs to post that. i would pay to see that video!

  • if this isn't EPIC than what is.

  • One of the best bands ever lived, on the amazing woodstock!!!

    The Who forever!

  • i would give my left testicle to be at this show

  • ccrossfan pinball wizard is kinda bout how someone is always good at something no matter if they are deaf, dumb, blind and if you are connecting it to the movie, it was tommys way of reaching out to the world...and beating elton john

  • lol

  • one of the best Who concerts

  • i find that main strumming pattern to be quite difficult. great guitar playing and great song

  • why not just go with wont get fooled again? that's practically a no-brainer. plus how are you going to explain the deaf, dumb, and blind kid? you can't base an entire meaning off of one line in a song.

  • It hadn't been written in 1969.

  • yeah i was talking about that guy who was going to interpret pinball wizard as being about the lead singer being addicted to sex.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes it had. It was written in February 1969 and released in March on the album "Tommy".

  • We were talking about "Won't Get Fooled Again." Written for the abandoned "Lifehouse" project, the would-be "Tommy" follow-up rock opera. Instead, it ends up on "Who's Next" in 1971, with most of the leftover "Lifehouse" material.

  • Comment removed

  • no no no '69 sorry get yer facts straight

  • No you fool, Tommy(the album) was from 1969. Look it up before you spout your bullshit.

  • shit, sorry you're right.

I mixed up Tommy with something else

    it stays completely brilliant though

  • Yeah, great coverage of KeIth Moon... NOTHING!

  • the greatest live band EVER!!!

    happy birthday Roger :D

  • Happy Birthday, Roger, the most good looking guy in the world.

  • These guys opened for Herman's Hermits on an American tour.

  • Yes :) The girls who where there to see Herman ran to the back of the room when Who came on :)

  • The Who rock. It doesn't get better than this

  • Thats some nice Basswork there.

  • I was at Woodstock and, although this is great, it doesn't come close to the actual performance... 3 of the best days of my life :)

  • This is a True music

    i have a dvd XD

  • this was 40 years ago but roger daltry's still a pretty good-looking guy

  • his voice is still good too :)
