  • We related the song of Serbia with the winning 1995 and 1996, Norway and England?

Winner VANIA, is the BETTER! Viva Portugal!

  • For me we are among the Best. Last Year we didn't do it just for a few points. But let's see what happen this year. Every year things change in EUROVISION, this year is the voting method. I just don't agree with the BIG4. Why these 4 countries have direct access to Final while other's fight in the semi-finals to be in the. Where's the European Spirit?

For me only the winner should have direct access to Final of the next year edition.

    GOOD LUCK ALL.

    BEST WISHES VANIA.

  • No dinheiro.

  • Having focus in music, only in the song, forgetting countries and all the worst part of ESC, this is a huge song, very very STRONG!!! The BEST you can find not only in this year, the best in many years... CONGRATULATIONS Portugal...12 points from Hellas

  • wow great

  • I think in 2009...it's going to be in Lisboa

  • Múica linda e grande voz. Traduz o espírito português!

    Força Vânia!

    :D

  • PORTUGAL!!!!!!!!!

    Great Vânia!!!

  • Vitoire pour Portugal! C est une chanson magnifique!

  • aluall, go fuck yourslef.

  • helpyourself1st: Obviously you don't know what fado is. I'll give you a brief explanation. Pls search "Lenita Gentil - hermasic" in youtube. As u can see, Fado is sang very simply with portuguese guitars and some regular ones. Just that. Sometimes it has a slow rythm and talks about sad things, other times is funny and fast, like "HERMÍNIA SILVA, Vamos dar de beber à alegria - 1981" . What's in common with Senhora do Mar? Very little. A powerfull voice, some strong lyrics, and... the language!

  • They have something else in commmon: the style! That is my point: we in Europe know what is Portuguese traditional style. But we know too little what is your contemporary music style. It would be interesting to see that on Eurovision!

And the two videos you recommended are very old-fashioned, dusted. I prefer the group "Madre Deus"! Very beautiful!

  • U r so annoyingly stubborn! Fado is timeless. It's not dusted. Show some respect for our national song. Era stupendo if you could stop comment our entry! Anyway,for modern portuguese music: A Naifa,Anjos, André Sardet,Blasted Mechanism,Buraka Som Sistema,Camané,Clã,Da Weasel,David Fonseca,Donna Maria,Expensive Soul,Fingertips,Gil do Carmo,Hands On Aproach,Humanos,João Pedro Pais,Lúcia Moniz,Mafalda Veiga,Mariza,Mesa,Mundo Secreto,Pedro Khima,Susana Félix,Sara Tavares,The Gift,Vânia Fernandes,etc

  • sorry, I meant "MadreDeus" - for instance: Alfama

  • Exactly... I don't know why people keep comparing this song with fado, totally diferent. Maybe because she is wearing black and black is a traditional color for "Fadistas"

  • Portugal is a country of poets and I believe Portugal have a great song. You can easily get the feelings emanating from her powerful but sweet voice, the emotion, melancholy and longing ARE VERY PRESENT IN A DELIGHTFUL EPIC BALLAD and that is never OUT OF STYLE. I'm afraid that they won't win because of political aspects and their geographical location. Therefore in my opinion the song has a balcan apeal to gather points and popularity in that region which I believe is a good strategy.

  • helpyourself1st: For me, and I'm sure for lots of people out there, Eurovision is about each country showing the others a song that possesses some national thing of it's own. In a song: language, lyrics, rhythm, sound of a typical instrument, singer's voice. Isn't it great when you can actually "speak" a little bit of a totally different language by repeating the chorus of it's entry? That's Eurovision, please bring that back. For anything else you have MTV EMA's and other national music shows.

  • I have to repeat: look at the last years' winners and learn from them - if winning is important for you. (Ireland is only joking this year, for instance). Finland was lika Portugal - never winning, until they did something original and from their hearts. Elena Paparizou used Greek traditional music and dance, but in a modern "dressing" - very fresh and creative. Look at Armenia this year - traditional and modern at the same time! Take a step towards other nations!

  • yeah!!!! It´s no longer a song contest where the best composers wins, it´s just the ugliest or weirdest and worst songs who get´s points, for example ukraine last year... I guess people want something diferent and not necessary beautiful.

  • Well, the Ukraine didn't win last year - although you've got to admit it was witty and funny. Walking the line of good taste, but still brilliant. But what did win was a beautiful authentic perormance from Serbia without special effects. So it's all about a winning combination AND the fact how the artist manages to convince the audience.

For me ESC is not only about traditions but more the creativity, and that you can show in any style. Just don't get stuck in the past!

  • Tsamur:

How dare you to comment any videos whatsoever, after having produced and uploaded a video of a guy screaming in a toilet after pissing? I know, I know, why don't you take that wonderful act to the eurovision representing Deutschland - that presently has a direct pass way to the final and still, stays in the last places? I'm sure it would change the all thing. Stop criticizing Portugal's entry, and concentrate on your grades, or else mom and dad won't give you the play station. U Jerk.

  • This is not a Beauty Contest... this is a music... and she has a great voice... but still i dont think the music its for a contest like this

  • This is not a Beauty Contest... this is a music... and she has a great voice... but still i dont think the music its for a contest like this

  • hey don`t look at the outer appearence! she has a beautiful voice. the song doesn`t really fit to the esc but its ok.

  • stupid child!

  • GREAT! aQUI DEIXO MAIS ESTE APELO QUE A VANIA JA NAO PRECISA. O APELO DESTINA-SE, SOMENTE, AQUELES QUE NÃO ENTENDEM O QU É UMA CANÇÃO EXCEPCIONAL, EM CRESCENDO, IMPARÁVEL, QUE NOS PÕE DE JOELHOS. Parebens Vania, Carlos, Andrej. O melhor, quase desde sempre. Bem hajam.

  • Da Weasel, The Gift, Moonspeel, Squeeze These Please, Mundo Secreto, TT, Xutos&Pontapes, Just Girls, Humanos etc etc

  • you know very well our portuguese bands...cause you are portuguese

  • you must be blind - I am not portuguese! you know, in other lands people actually learn some foreign languages. And if I have portuguese friends, it doesn't make me portuguese. I want Portugal to win finalmente, but if you don't try to be a little bit more modern - like Armenia or Elena Paparizou, then you can never win!

  • But I do agree with you in the sense that Greece only won in 2005 with a revamped Greek traditional music. This song can be considered sort of a classic with hints of french, portuguese and even balcan sounds like the flute, accordion, guitar, drums and other instruments. I have seen people comparing it to various style.

  • You can see the Portuguese influence in this song and I'm not talking about fado. This song is not a Fado song however I believe Vania can sing it very well. Nevertheless it's a very well contructed song with a powerful voice.

  • the inluence is too strong in this case - not ta talk about the lacking quality of the back singers, who almost destroy the beautiful side of this song. But it's still too strongly stuck in the traditions to be understood by other natinalities. I guess what people expect from portugqal is not to lose their tradition but also to be a little more innovative!

  • what do you call modern?i realy think that music thats very good and with quality!not like some rubish musics we doet before!this is a great influence by portugal...its meens fado!

  • in that case I prefer authentic Fado. Vania has a great voice and she is a beautiful woman, but the way she is presented is not optimal: the dress is for much older women, not to talk of the hair or airrings. And this kind of interpretation with a strong touch of fado - yet NOT completely - is too strange for most of people. You have to decide - if you want to win or insist on sending only traditional music.

  • bellísima!! beautiful song.Suerte Portugal. Parabens.

  • "Senhora do Mar" ("Lady of the seas") Before you, I'm fallen Who comes and takes half of life and peace From this table, from this house, now lost? Love, what's happened with you? Lady of the sea Before you, my soul is empty Who comes and takes what is mine? Oh high sea, bring me My endless love Ah, black waters, waves of sorrow They froze the fire in my eyes He's not sailing anymore And nobody sees you
  • Montenegro votes: 12p Switzerland 10p Israel 8p Portugal 7p Slovenia 6p Albania 5p Sweden 4p Serbia 3p Armenia 2p France 1p Iceland I wish all the best to Vania, and hope to see Eurovision 2009 in Lisboa. Best luck to Israel, they also have strong song. Swiss is outstanding !!!
  • good song for portugal win, go for it. and vania is very good.

Parabens :D

  • Beautiful song, but in my opinion Joana Melo and its Porto de Encontro would have been a better choice for the Eurovision Festival.

  • grande musica :)

  • Fabulosamente portuguesa. Tradicional, mas bela.

  • afinal Portugal tem Musica para mandar.

    Gosto vai ter pontos.

  • This quality song is far too good to be participating in the ESC!! Even if it doesn't win it will linger in the hearts of people and become a longlasting classic... Just don't make the mistake of underestimating people's response to Portugal's entry.

  • FIRST PART: Lady of The Sea Before you, I'm fallen Who is coming to take half of life and peace From this table, from this house, now lost? Love, what happened to you? Lady of the sea Before you, my soul is empty Who is coming to call over, that way, what is mine? Oh open water bring me My endless love
  • SECOND PART: Ah, black waters, waves of sorrow They froze the fire in my eyes He's not sailing anymore And nobody sees you crying, lady of the sea. Who is coming to take half of life and peace From this table, from this house, now lost? Love, what happened to you? Ah, black waters, waves of sorrow They froze the fire in my eyes Lady of the sea
  • LAST PART:

Lifes in salt, prayers in vain

Let his heart beat close to me

Ah, black waters, waves of sorrow

They froze the fire in my eyes

    He's not sailing anymore

    And nobody sees you crying,

    lady of the sea.

  • portugal 4ever i love portugal <3 <3

Gostei!

  • For our foreigner friends, here's a translaction of "Senhora do Mar" ("Lady of the seas") Before you, I'm fallen Who comes and takes half of life and peace From this table, from this house, now lost? Love, what's happened with you? Lady of the sea Before you, my soul is empty Who comes and takes what is mine? Oh high sea, bring me My endless love Ah, black waters, waves of sorrow They froze the fire in my eyes He's not sailing anymore And nobody sees you
  • Thank you! Portugal por sempre! Love from Greece!

  • This quality song is far too good to be participating in the ESC!! Even if it doesn't win it will linger in the hearts of people and become a longlasting classic...

  • Nice, but not outstanding. I guess top ten

  • you're a bit stupid, aren't you?!! Because the truth is that the best songs ever are the traditional and classical ones... And being from 21st century doesn't mean you have the obligation to listen to rap, r&b, pop, rock... If that was what you were trying to say!!!

  • OMG!My country is Portugal and my language is Portuguese so, i think and i believe that we have to sing in Portugues, just lik france sing french and germany sing german... its a kind of law my darling. im sorry but you are so fucking wrong...

  • saturninho, already many years there is no law that everyone has to sing in their language! A propos France: this year they have a song in English!!

  • and the german song is spanish :S

  • so fiipas is saying that Coldplay or The Beatles or Edith Piaf or U2 or Shakira or James Blunt etc. etc. are all bad music because thea are not classical or traditional? Folk music belongs to folkmusic festivals. I wish that Portugal wins, but to do that you have to modernize your performers

  • No, I'm not saying that... I am saying that the traditonal and classical songs, like "Imagine" from The Beatles (as you said), or musics from the classical and great musicians like Bethoven, Bach, Schubert etc. These are some examples of great musics that NEVER got oldfashioned!!!

  • But there is music that represents our time, too. it doesn't have to be old or classical or traditional or folkmusic to be good! Who is the most popular band in Portugal right now?

  • Just Girls. PHAHAHA

  • you're a bit stupid, aren't you?!! Because the truth is that the best songs ever are the traditional and classical ones... And being from 21st century doesn't mean you have the obligation to listen to rap, r&b, pop, rock... If that was what you were trying to say!!!

  • Pirosa?

  • aluall she can not be so prety as ulike but she have the most beatifull voice in esc 2008!!!

  • LittI3Me, do me a favor, go fuck yourself.

  • alextopuzov, you're so s-t-u-p-i-d. The song is completely diferent from the last year's winner. Prove me if there is any similarity betwen this song and ''Moltiva''

I think the singer is different from the last year's winner, so I may suppose you're blind and you need good glasses.

    So stupid.

  • So much ignorance and jealous.

  • this comes from typical portuguese music called FADO learn something about the cultures before you make comments!!!!!

  • alextopuzov I think u can kill urself!!!

u don´t undertant anyfing about music!!!

this music comes for a portuguese traditional music style called FADO!!!

    Go Vânia

  • lool portuguese diserves it!!!!!!

  • she has a beautiful voice

  • curibote, que infantiloide.

  • One of the best voices of Esc 2008!! A good song!

  • I like this! Last year you also had a great song but...Who knows...

  • Oh.... so beautiful....!

ood luck Portugal. Portugal ao final...

  • Her voice is so pure and smooth, and the song is very portuguese! A wonderful wonderful song, good luck to Portugal, they deserve so much thi year.

A musica espanhola é horrivel!

    ESC Lisbon 2009!

  • maricon!

  • Everytime I ear it I get shills

  • Is this song the winner of portugal?

I think the song is pretty cool, but im from sweden and its not our taste of music so i dont think that they will get any wotes from us, maybe a 2 or something like that!

Look at the swedish songs, "Empty room" and "Hero" :)

  • My 10 favourites are: ISRAEL ALBANIA SERBIA PORTUGAL SWITZERLAND ANDORRA CROATIA ALBANIA HUNGARY CHYPRUS
  • hello europe... Portugal 12 points Switzerland 10 points Servia 8 points Greece 7 points Norway 6 points Ucraine 5 points Polska 4 points albania 3 points Bulgary 2 points Island 1 point

  • Super bem represantados. Luv Vania's voice, and the music is very portuguese ... independent of the results, we already win with this music =D

  • parolo

  • Alemanha, Reino Unido, França e Espanha pagam o festival.

Continuem q vão no bom caminho!

  • Great song Portugal!!

Greetings and good luck from Albania! =)

  • 3) This is a ballad, perhaps with an epic or military resemblance. Yes it's slow, compared to the 80% sintetizer rhythms of this years entries. But it has soul, it´s not hollow. It will last longer.

    4) I'm not scared of getting the last place. At least we sent a song in which we believed in, that actually makes sense to the Portuguese. Are some countries only interested in winning to promote their tourism during the breaks in songs presentations? Think about that, and give Portugal 12 points.
