Other cities wanted the team but Mario wouldn't let it leave because of the great fan support. The new arena is on its way.

Sorry Holmes, but Detroit is indeed a dynasty. 17 straight playoffs, 8 straight 100+ point seasons, 4 cups in 11 seasons, 6 President's Trophies, Norris Trophies, Conn Smythe Trophies, Lady Byng Trophies, Selke Awards, etc... No team has been as dominant in the past 15 years as Detroit has. That's a dynasty...and it will continue to be for a while.

I agree, college football is king. I'm an OSU grad and the Buckeyes own the Wolverines!!! I lived in Southfield, off of 12 mile, for about 15 months. Don't care if you don't believe me. Like u said it's better to be lucky than good, our 3rd goal was lucky, but it happens all the time so Fluery shouldn't let it bother him he still is a great goalie, the whole Pens team has great talent and they have a bright future, the only thing bad I have to say is that Crosby needs to grow up a lil bit, dont get me wrong he is a great player, but just listening to his post game, he never gave any credit

Get your facts straight, shithead. The fans supported the team, but the owner at the time had no money. He didn't have enough cash flow to own an NHL franchise. He put the team in debt and Mario, who was owed around $40 million, got the team. Mario was going to sell the team, but decided not to because he realized he could profit from the team once there was a new arena. Other cities wanted the team but Mario wouldn't let it leave because of the great fan support. The new arena is on its way.

Like I said, the owner didn't have enough money to own a pro franchise. He went into debt. Fan support has always been good, even when the Pens sucked. Was each game sold out when the team sucked? No, but that's understandable. The Wings have always played to a full house since the mid-90s. It's hard to fathom so many empty seats when the Wings are the best team in the league. The poor economy may figure into the equation. I know there has been a lot of layoffs in the auto industry lately.

2. We're Spoiled. Any fan of the 29 other teams would probably give their right arm to have their team start in the playoffs every year like Detroit does. We fans just can't get excited over playing Columbus and Nashville and St Louis 4x at home, not including the games vs Phoenix, Atlanta, LA, among others.
I will say this. These Penguins reminded me of our 95 Wings. Owning the league to lose the finals in 4.

I'm a lifelong Red Wings fan but I am willing to concede the Pens are the best team in the NHL right now...they played perhaps the greatest Stanley Cup game of all time in Game 5. Sid the Kid will lead this young team to at least 6 or 7 Stanley Cups before he retires...that much I know is truth.
