I'm french, and I think (even thought I'm supposed to have learned all this) I'm just learning the history of my country thanks to someone who is american. And yes, even thought I don't really talk english, it's much more clear in my head. Thank you, John! :)
"Like alot of monarchs, Leopold II liked the idea of monarchies and wanted to keep his job as a person who gets to stand around wearing a dress, pointing at nothing, owning winged lion monkeys made of gold" xD
I love it when he says "standing around wearing a dress, pointing at nothing, owning winged lion monkeys made of gold" and you can just tell he's trying not to laugh.
I just realized this was uploaded on my birthday last year. :-D
Oh 15 year old me, there's so much I wish I could tell you about the year to come. You aren't even a nerdfighter yet. (But just wait, you'll be made of awesome one day!)
Help? My tribe is trying to gain Federal Recognition and I would appreciate if you could go onto the website* and sign the petition It ends DECEMBER 1ST !
*the united houma nation website has the information under the Federal Recognition bar, it also give more history about us
@24nerdfighter Well, it's more like it became Germany. It was Prussia who conquered/united the rest of Germany and declared the German Empire in 1871. Really Germany was just an extended Prussia until the Weimar Republic.
It wasn't a very cunning get away considering that, despite their servant disguise, they left in an elaborate carriage so overloaded with unnecessarily possessions that it slowed them down and drawing attention to the king who was recognized by citizens as being the man featured on their coins.
@TheGundy The wealth disparity in the U.S. is the largest it's been since. With the astronomically wealthy folk who live like kings the way they did before personal income taxes were assessed. Time for a new revolution!

I find guillotines quite interesting...right now I am imagining myself using one on all the people who used to make fun of me...I am strapping their heads down in the machine, and they are pleading for me to let them go, but I just ignore them. I walk to the string and pull it, and the sharp blade falls down. At that moment I hear an ear-piercing SLICE and dark red blood spews from their headless neck all over like a fire hydrant. And, as all this happens, I let loose a shrill cackle.
My history teacher from kindergarten through sixth grade was a lady; and my civics teacher this year, seventh grade, was a girl. Oh, and, I must be an expection to that no girls thing, because history is my best subject.

And that's the reason why Louis fled, because he was really quite religious and he felt like he was betraying God and whatnot by taking the Oath.
All History teachers are men no girls sorry ladies. See history is like this secret club when you set up when you were a kid and you had a sign that said no girls allowed!

There are 2 fun facts about why the guillotine isn't a humane form of capital punishment.
-After a head is severed it stays conscious for 15 to 20 seconds.
-And guillotines don't chop heads off, they crush them off.
(If I'm wrong, I'm sorry)

You're pretty much right, but "humane" here is a relative term. Before the Guillotine was around the main methods for capital punishment were hanging and decapitation, by sword or axe. The problem with decapitation, is that depending on the force of the executioner's swing, it could take a couple of whacks to get the job done. Hanging was also a fairly imprecise art form, if the rope was too long the prisoner's head could come clean off, if too short they slowly suffocated.
