@Angelslover9 Game 4 of the 1989 NBA Finals - Detroit won the series 4-0.
Lakers were without Magic & Scott so Worthy had to be the main scorer. The Pistons were up 3-0 and looking to sweep the series (which they did). That shot happened towards the last minute of the game when the Lakers were making a final run to win and force a game 5. Lakers' final possession to win was an attempted jump shot by David Rivers but was blocked by Joe Dumars. Pistons sealed the game with free throws.
In terms of individual accolades and statics, if Worthy would have played for any other NBA team, he would have probably had a career scoring of average 30 points and 10 rebounds per game. With Kareem and Magic, he was sometime the third option, truly a great super talent we didn’t see all of.
for a 6`9" forward he sure has a quick 1st step. you don`t see guys in his position these days that can hold the ball, post, shoot and most of all his hustle for every game. I bet he would have gone more than 20 points per game if he was with another team.
I hate LA with all my heart, but man I always had mad props for "Big Game James." He was gritty as any player during the Lakers' Showtime Era. If Magic was the driver Worthy was the Porsche.
the best defensive team of all time (88-89) pistons couldnt stop "Big Game James" even piston fans cant argue that. there was no stoppin him in 88 thats for sure. defensive specialist were befuddled. double teams uh uh james picked apart the most vaunted defence in nba history!!
even as a top 50 player of the nba. i think he he is underrated. james was arguably one the top power forwards of all time. shadowed by the cap and maj, he was still, one of the top 7 players i have ever seen. granted i didnt see some of the greats but james worthy was absolutely a "Big Game" player hence the nick
The 80's lakers were the most balanced team ever. If you look at their stats year to year they always had someone different leading them in scoring; Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Scott. They were a true all star team.
Buss was smokin' some mighty bad stuff if that was true, lol!!! Cummings wouldn't have lasted 2 seconds on Magic's hard fast-breakin' squads during that time. So damn glad Lakers picked Worthy. Hell, even Dominique Wilkins was available in that same draft if they wanted to go that route. Imagine Magic, Kareem, and the Human Highlight Film runnin' on the same floor together...
laker sform all their team they have very goo play like gasol kobe bynum aertest odom west magic worthy scott kareem

Too bad he will always be overlooked over Magic and Kareem, he was a big part of the "Showtime" Lakers
