@mdb1885 It has a Rusty's Offroad 6" lift. You can also get a 6" lift from BJ's offroad. Although I actually plan on redoing the lift and going with a spring over/shackle flip. Much nicer ride, although it will sit a bit higher.
@addictedtos10s The rear has a Detroit Locker in it. The front is open, as driving on the roads with snow on them with a front locker is a death wish. I would need a selectable locker up front to make it usable in this area. Maybe one day :)
Dude, watched a lot of vids. You got it right, you had the balls to pin the gas. i have been telling whims, that you gotta spin the tires, if your gonna get out. Will pass your vid to my ball less friends.
@poweritout84 in mud you want your tires spinning but in snow like he is you dont want to spin. hes giving it way too much gas its no wonder he had such a hard time making it
@s9khein Well, actually crawling it didn't work either. Thats what I tried going up at first. Then I grabbed the camera and tried this route. Driving in deep snow is very similar to driving in mud. Also, this was after 3 days of driving on the driveway, so the snow had been smashed into ice underneath, and then another snow the morning of this video, but then warmed up and got slushy. There is no way you are going to crawl through 18" of slush.
Im sorry but this just seems like an excuse to get the camera and show off for a little bit, but what kind of exhaust you got on there it sounds great!!
Gotta love the ole' 258! That thing was screamin! That's an older grill, isn't it? I like that style better than the square headlight FSJ front ends.
Yeah, the grill came off a '78 Cherokee. It had the plastic muscle grill originally. It was getting faded and cracked, this was a welcomed swap. Thanks!
Magna Flow I was thinking about. IMC I'll have to look into. 2.5" from the manifolds back? I'm running the TF 727, 360 v8, 4.88gears, a spool, 37" mud tires, 5" lift, with cut fender flares. Thank you for the info.
Yeah it has a full custom exhaust. Its all 2.5", MagnaFlo Hi-Flo CAT, and an IMC Turbo Muffler. I ran the same setup on my '75 Cherokee minus the CAT. The cherokee sounded awesome (It had a AMC 360). My truck here has the AMC 258 i6. It still sounds great for a 6 banger though.
Up here in Newfoundland, the snow can be very wet and heavy. Snow like that will stick anything at all, flooring it will only cause problems. Just keep rocking it like that fella was doing in the video.
Nice :) I have a '79 j10 with the 258 I-6 and T18 4-speed and Dana 44's. To quote the guy at the garage that accidentally chirped the tires in low pulling it out of the bay "Put this sucker in low, tie it down and you could rip the whole damn state off the map." LOL
what state you live in. seems like a nice place to go and spends some good alone time or with a lover, nice getting unstuck though lol maybe chains around the tires would help you
well, looks to me like you got allright, it just took some convincing and apparently the Jeep didnt want to be embarrassed on youtube. and looks to me like we all agree that AMC built the last good Jeeps. I have an '82 J-20 myself.
Now thats a 4 wheel drive, especially when all 4 wheels spin. i have a 76 J10 with a 360 in it and wow does it have power. it also has a 4.10 gear in it so that makes it even better for pulling power
I had a '75 Cherokee up until last spring. Same 6" lift, same tires, but with a 360 with edelbrock goodies, HEI, etc, T18a 4sp. It certainly had more power. But the gearing was quite as good as it had 3.54's. With the 4.56's I have plenty of power in the J10, I just lack on the side of top speed (60 is tops).
I've gotten mine up to 90, then the clutch let go, it's been slipping since I got the truck but I've got a new one ready to go on. $190 in the name of power!
Chrysler is the worst thing that ever happened to Jeep, plus they killed the J10 because it was too much competition for their crappy (at the time) Dodge trucks.
That wasn't stuck. Stuck is when you go back and forth and still can't get anywhere so you have to get out and move the snow our from under your car by hand while saying a lot of choice words while you freeze your hands off. You're lucky that you always get stuck in your own driveway. LOL at "beats traffic".
gotta love the 258 screamin its head of

I find it funny that people forget to use their brakes when they have no lockers equipped.

that's why lockers are well worth there money just lock those damn axle's and you won't ever have that problamo!

isn't the T176 a CJ transmission? or did you swap the whole powertrain from a CJ?
FirebirdCamaro1220 1 year ago
@FirebirdCamaro1220 They also used them in the FSJ's, but with slightly different gear ratios. There was the T176, T177, and T178.

Does lowering the air pressure help with wet/snow traction in general?
ACTORDAVIDTRAN 3 years ago 2
In deeper snow yes, helps you float on top.
Stuka87 3 years ago
Yeah, I always lower my air pressure like 5 psi when it rains because it helps me slide a lot less.
ACTORDAVIDTRAN 3 years ago
Nice I dropped a mustang V8 in my 63 gladiator.
We had snow coming over the hood before we stopped.

In dry powder stuff, I can go through 30" without to much of a problem. But this was slicker stuff with packed ice underneath.

Not bad... My J10 has the 360 AMC V8 in it so it has a little more grunt, and I'm putting a new manifold and a 4-barrel carb on it soon.

This is after a week of melting. It was 50 out today, which made the snow really slushy. The more frozen snow is easier to get traction in.
