yeah its done I had a quantumwith the same problem. I told myself that a mower engine is to easy to find than going through the trouble of going deep into it to fix it.
The guy that changed the blade adapters who i mentioned in the second video said it was broken too. You can also hear a rattle when shaking the engine around
you said you can sell the drive unit for 50 on ebay or the whole thing after putting a good motor on for 80 if your just in it for the cash i would think 50 for the trans+sell just motor have the old motor and the rest for parts would net more money just another choice i like your vids
I thought it would be fun to take on this project if i made more, or less. The feeling of satisfaction is awesome when the job is done. Besides the mower is still in pretty good shape dispite the engine. It turns out i also have the matching grass bag in the garage too which i got as a spare when i recieved my 1987 Snapper with the bent crankshaft.
briggs and stratton engines are better than tecumseh engines, toros used to have tecumseh engines on them... and snapper did too, tecumseh engines don't hold up too well, especially in hot summer days, the mechanical oil pump can fail and throws a rod
Right before i fixed my Ninja mower i was ready to buy a brand new Snapper. The price was not to bad either. About $450.00 with bag which i will never use because i mulch. Bagging is too much work. My neighbor who owns a Craftman thought i was nuts, but the Snapper is the best self propelled mower you can buy. You get what you pay for. I later changed my mind, and replaced the trans on the ninja mower. I spent about $100.00 fixing that mower which included a new blade, but its worth it!
but what if you cant afford to buy a new mower? i'm about to give up with the snapper mowers, impossible to find one and when i do they are gone in a heartbeat. i will just hire a lawn service company to do it then. 450 dollars is alot of money if you just got laid off. oh well you cant always get what you want
You gotta look at it this way. The average self propelled lawnmower costs about 300 bucks at Sears, and only lasts so long. You pay a little bit more for a Snapper, but it will last forever. It is also easier to get parts for. Unlike Sears where you gotta special order unusual things.

i wish garbage picking was good in my area. it sucks. i have only found 3 lawnmowers in the garbage, one of them was screwed. (crank seal)

in my area, all the old lawnmowers are in the bottom of the anacostia river, along with all the other shit that's down there.

im pretty sure that quantum engine has a shattered connecting rod. theres no compression because the piston isn't moving.
