i'm thinking about a sonic story line for a game i just made up in my head there is a samurai ghost who is seeking revenge for this girl he liked who was killed by ninjas and amy gets kidnapped by power crazed ninjas working for eggman so sonic allows the samurai ghost to possess him in order to save amy and stop eggman from taking over the world it would be high grade sword fighting unmatched speed and excellent story line but it may just stay in my imagination

the problem isn't speed. The problem is that 2006 Sonic took the Adventure games and exposed those games few weak points to death. (of course it still sold more than awesome games like Okami)

This sums up why people hate Sonic now quite well. (although 2006 was probably the only terrible game, the rest are at least ok, with a couple legitimately awesome games like Unleashed and Rush Adventure)

With old school Sonic, the levels that had platforming (Marble Zone, Scrap Brain Zone, etc) are the most challenging and keep me playing cause I wanna beat them. A Sonic game that focuses on Sonic just going as fast as possible with no obstacles or platforming would be pretty boring to me.

Here's the thing that gets me is that people think Sonic is only about the speed.

Returning to his birth, Sonic was created as a platformer to compete with Nintendo's gilded calf, Mario. Sonic was a platforming game, but with speed added as an element and a gimmick. Today people whine that a good Sonic game is only by pressing the D-pad right for the whole level.

With the original games, Sonic had to stop and jump on platforms, watch out for traps, and avoid the typical platforming regalia.

Speaking of Sonic's birth, those who think a Sonic game is all about speed should go back and play Marble Zone, or as I like to call it Bowser's castle in Sonic's universe. I mean it was the second level of the first game, and it wasn't fast at all! The whole level was pushing blocks, ridding on slow moving blocks in the lava and waiting for platforms. It was fun, don't get me wrong, but fast it was NOT!
