  • I'm about to play this piece at a sonata competition in a week...any tips?

  • @pianoplayer3339

Watch your phrasing and touch. Do not slam the keys. Clarity is really nice. Watch your pedal. Good Luck!

  • .... I was never really satisfied. Diane: You brought the music puzzle together, You make music out of this difficult composition. Thank you so much for sharing. Your are a true musician! Greetings from Sarcletti (a piano teacher from germany).

  • Bravo Diane! You made my day.

Since my own piano studies -25 years ago- I was in search for a serious recording of this difficult haydn sonata. The first monvement -as a composition- is very inhomogene and difficult to bring into the right balance in sound and finally I was considering this movement as an haydn experiment or capriole. I compared Brendel to Weissenberger and Andras Schiff to Richter.

  • Does Ms. Hidy know what means in italian PRESTO? She simply kills the 1st mov. Listen to Jeno Jando!

  • All it takes is Super Slow Practice. I have been playing the piano since I was 5.

and it is easy to get carried away and speed the practicing up and it gets very frustrating.

  • Can't believe how hard it is to play this piece that perfectly..

  • @Thommen94

I know right? I had so much trouble with this piece in High School, but once I got past the first movement of it, the piece became a WHOLE lot easier.

  • @pnoguy1103

hehe, that's why my teacher only gave me the "presto" to learn.. anyway, love Haydn :)

  • very very nice. a masterpiece

  • Diane Hidy made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1991 after completing her studies with John Perry and Leon Fleisher. She attended the Juilliard School of Music, and holds degrees from the University of Southern California and the Peabody Conservatory of Music. As First Prize winner of the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition, Diane Hidy performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Ms. Hidy maintains an active teaching schedule in her own private studio.
