Oh, and Neil Perry charges a fortune for his meals. You could expect to pay up to $500 for a dinner for 2 but pay a fraction of that at any other equally, if not better, restaurant.
Everything is bizarre to someone, some where. Lobsters are consider very weird, alien looking creatures in many pockets of the world. People have a hard time believing that something like that is edible. It's all about perspective and insight into the familiar and foreign.
Jimaera...you swallowed turpentine as a child huh?...America has such a broad mix of culinary restaurants that your statement makes you sound like you have other issues with Americans....you forget how big the US is...Lets hear the details about your country ok? and how everything other cultures eat is so normal.
To all the people who've made the very good point that most of this food looks delicious and not especially bizarre, a reminder: this show is produced by Americans, for (mainly) Americans, from the perspective of- you guessed it- Americans. And to the average American, if it doesn't come on a bun with a side of fries, it qualifies as bizarre...

He says 'bugs' to enhance the 'bizzareness' to the food when if you really think about it, its like a distant cousin to the lobster. I guess lobsters, crabs, prawns are also insects of the ocean.
Nothing really bizarre about that. Crustaceans are pretty much bugs that live under water anyway. Shrimp, lobster and crayfish are pretty much water roaches and crabs are pretty much like between a spider and a scorpion, crabmeat just tastes better. LOL!
This man is my hero, I have a hard time trying new food and he eats anything he can find. It gives me inspiration to try a new thing now and then, but I don't think I'd eat those sea bug things. But the fish in chilis looked great.
yeah, like what flowersandgifts said, if u had someone from some secluded tribe in the wilderness come and eat pizza, hed probably find it pretty bizarre too.-but to use its not, cuz we eat it all the time
These food are only BIZZARRE to people who have never treval outside of their modern country. Every country and culture have their own specials foods. Don't make nasty comments about others culture's foods.
in my opinion in 90% of "bizarre food" there is nothing bizarre about this food..... it is all about view perception....usually when i watch it , in most "cases" I wish i would be there to try this stuff...
I would say 98%. And I agree about the perception. People would not say anything to rat meat if it was cooked, looked presentable and said to be like "chicken". I have yet to be grossed out and really envy Andrew.
@pankinyek it's considered bizarre for majority of westerners not to asians. but seriously tho, Romans used to eat just like asians. rat sucklings, cow/sheep stomach, pig intestines, beetles and many more. but then again, some people consider them as specifically "Europeans" not "Westerners". but ur right. it's all about one's own perspective. i often travel to asia just for the FOOD lol.
@pankinyek You're absolutely right, that's what I think too, which is why I hate it when people give me a disgusted look and say "How can you eat that?", even if it's just an Asian dessert! It's incredibly rude to make comments like that. I'm glad there are people out there like you who feel this way :) it's all about view perception and one must respect others' culture. I love watching this show, I want to try most of the foods too.

why does the Australians call crabs "bugs"??
stephentsang2000 2 years ago
because, crabs, lobster are related to cockroaches.
PrettyTigerlilly 2 years ago
Its only this specific species of shellfish that are referred to as bugs. Specifically in this episode the Balmain and Moreton Bay.
You'll notice Zimmern also makes reference to Mudcrabs.
