@Maryloohoo2 -- What a shame that WGN-TV as well as most TV stations across the USA discontinued live kid shows years ago. And what replaced it? Garbage such as Jerry Springer, Rosie and Maury. YUK to the max.
Love it! My Christmas isn't complete until I see this video, the Suzy Snoflake video, the Frosty video, and hear Burl Ives sing Silver and Gold, and Have A Holly Jolly Christmas. Thanks for the post!
Who are those misersable people who "dislike" this song? GREAT Tune. So is "Here comes Suzy Snowflake and Frosty the Snowman". Baby Boomers say it LOUD --- WGN rules, baby!
Santa looks Asian I guess that's why he needs three elves one to drive the sligh so they wont crash one to read the map so they don't get lost and the other one so that he can give Santa the right toys to put int the tree zing
@Maryloohoo2 If you miss seeing these shows on TV watch or tape or do both on Christmas Eve from 9:30-11:30 (central time) WGN TV will be re-running their Bozo, Gar and Ray: WGN TV Classics. They show from what I believe is all the clips they have left from the shows. And they also show Hardrock Coco and Joe, Frosty the Snowman, and Suzy Snowflake during the 2 hour broadcast. WGN TV and Radio's Dean Richards hosts this special.

This thing scared the bejeezus out of me 50 years ago, and still seems pretty creepy today.
One reason Santa appears Asian might be because the animator was a Chinese American named Wah Chang, who went on to great success as a set and prop designer for the original Star Trek series. He also did work on The Outer Limits, and in films such as Planet of the Apes and Cleopatra.
We only had one TV channel back when I was a kid growing up in the foothills of the Laurel Mountains---WJAC in JOHNSTOWN,PA. No matter how far you move away from that area, when you return it just seems like time stood still for the past 50 plus years. GREAT MEMORIES.
How could anybody not like these (also frosty the snowman and suzy snowflake)? I remember seeing them (on WJAC in Johnstown PA) like it was yesterday. Well it was 50 years ago, but it seems like yesterday.
This was a Christmas tradition back when we were kids. We always looked forward to this every year. It brings back so many awesome memories. Thank you for posting this.
Growing up in Chicago in the 60's & 70's, this was a tradition around Christmas. We knew that the Holiday season was official when this Suzy Snowflake, and Frosty the Snowman came on. Such wonderful memories.
I am only 30 years old so I wasn't a kid when this or Suzy snowflake came out but my mom and dad couldn't wait to see it every year when I was a kid. They would always want me to watch it with them. I did. And now I Cant wait to see it every year and I get my kids to watch it with me as they did. And they do. And they love it also. Let the tradition live on!!
I live just north of Pgh, and I remember watching and singing to this classic as a kid. I believe it may have been played on Paul Shannons' Adventure Time. Truly takes you back a time, that we will never see again, unfortunately... What saddens me is, I wish my kids could have lived thru that era... Thanks for the trip back on the time machine ~~~~~~~
I grew up outside of Johnstown, PA and to this day they play his video, Suzy Snowflake, and Frosty The Snowman. when I was a kid my brother's and I knew Christmas was close when we started to see these on TV! I love them!!
LOL. Ray Rayner Show on Channel 9 in Chicago during the 60's and 70's. This and Suzy Snowflake in December. We would watch this before school every morning before Christmas. But what is up with demonic Asian Santa???
Chicago's greatest TV channel WGN channel 9 played this on the Garfield Goose show with Frazier Thomas. What a great holiday memory. Gotta love youtube.
It's STILL on Channel 6 - WJAC, out of Johnstown, PA - that's the only channel around here anyway that still shows these - it's not the Holidays without the three of these - this one, Suzy Snowflake, and Frosty the Snowman! Takes me right back to Christmases of old... sigh......
This was on Channel 6 around 11:00 every December wekend in the 60's through the 90's in Johnstown, Pa. Brings back the child in me,along with Suzy Snowflake too.
This really brings back wonderful memories for me......Winter in Cicago....Bozo's Circus, Ray Rayner, and Garfield Goose. Hardrock, Coco and Joe......Suzy Snowflake.....and Frosty the Snowman......wouln't be Christmas without them. I would love to have a DVD with all 3 of these shows on them.
Thank God WGN came to their senses a few years ago and showed them for the first time in I swear 20 years at least. I remember it was Christmas Eve because I was with my Mom's family and I did remember for a short time in the 80's this was shown on Garfield Goose and eventually The Bozo Show. And now has been a staple on Christmas Eve and Day on Ch.9 in Chicago!
I was Hardrock, Coco, or Joe in my kindergarten or 1st grade, but can't remember which one. Didn't know the name of this song so I played it on my banjo on my channel so someone might tell me the name of it. I got the name after about 30 min.
I never had the chance to watch this but the classics are great. Too bad they're dying out as children are being presented with movies that are rife with technological special effects & not much substance anymore.
I was just talking to someone about "Hardrock, Coco and Joe" and was thrilled to find it on You Tube. If you grew up in the Chicagoland area 20+ years ago you probably saw it. I loved it and looked forward to it every year. And I remembered the tune and every single word! These simple things make for a happy childhood.
To: tammiedaniels and the rest I have to agree! One of the best Christmas cartoons, I used watch while I grew up in Chicago...that was 30 years ago.. now living in Colorado Springs, CO and they just don't show classics like this I am glad to see it here on U TUBE. Have a Merry Christmas Everybocy! :>)
I grew up in the Chicagoland area and can remember the anticipation of waiting to see this and Suzy snowflake every year. That was 35+ years ago.... Oh how I miss the simple times
this shows how the classics never die. they still show it on the channel 9 news in the morning. I was just showing my son who is 5 this video and he loved it. it is TIMELESS
I used to see this on Tv in the 60's when i was a lil kid. brought back great memories of a simpler time. Now days the elves would be suing for hostile work environment and forced to wear seat belts..HAHAH
I remember seeing this on 'The Bozo Show' every Christmas as a kid - so utterly freaky... Even setting nostalgia aside, this is one weird video :) Not surprising you don't hear this as a staple carol at Christmas...
i remember watching these when we'd go to pennsylvania for christmas i'd always look forward to seeing these we don't go to pa for christmas anymore since grandpa passed away
Check between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day if WGN Ch 9 in Chicago doesnt play this about 3 times between that time I'll be very surprised should play it over WGN America to
I have been looking for this video for at least 35 years and was fortunate to find it after remembering the Suzy Snowflake video's name. First saw it on channel 6 in Johnstown, PA. Thanks for posting it and letting me relive childhood anytime I want now.
Watched it on the same channel, from the same general area! Loved it. I live in Chicago now though... strange that that is where it seemingly originated.
i'm 19 now and my mom [who died when i was 6] used to play this and suzy snowflake on repeat when i was little. i think everyone has their own littl hardrock, cocoa, and joe memories :) i love it.
I loved this and Suzy Snowflake. Grew up in State College and this would air on channel 6, also out of Johnstown! Thanks to whoever put this on youtube. Great memories
This is amazing.... I remember this from so very long ago..... how do such things get posted to YOUTUBE??? I'm amazed that people out there have this material. Whoever did this, THANK YOU!!!
When I saw the title I didn't think I'd heard of this.....then all of a sudden I started singing, "I'm Hardrock! I'm Coco! I'm Joe!". I had to watch it....and it ALL came back to me! Here's to Christmas in Chicago in the 60's! It was the only place to be!
I almost cried when I saw this listed! Of course, I'm also from Chicago. Missed this by 2 or 3 minutes last year while watching WGN. It was so good to see Frazier Thomas & Bozo. Next...Suzie Snowflake
Exactly what you said. It was all so simple then. I'm from Chicago , born in 1961 and loved Ray Rayner& garfield goose!!!! Thanks for this video! I miss my Grandma!!!!
a chicago ray rayner and bozo show classic. Ah,... my youth was grand. It really is to bad we have to grow up, I really miss my family, and the love we shared. It was so simple then.
OK, I take it all back, I was just in a sh**y mood the past few days. My Christmas was canceled due to bad weather, and a sore foot. I'm feeling much better now!
☆☆☆☆☆ Yeah, i love this Video, i love the special Effects and i really love this Sound...! Now i had a new Mobilesound...! THX & merry Xmas, greetz from Germany! ;o))
it's not Christmas in Chicago without this, LOL - I have the DVD from Smithe Brothers furniture they were giving out a few years ago with this, Suzy Snowflake and Frosty :)
We play it on Christmas Eve with our family visiting each year and it always brings back good memories.
OMG, I grew up in the Chicago area and was a staple in WGN every Christmas. It was usually shown on Garfield Goose, the King of the United States and hosted by Frazier Thomas...great memories of a more innocent time.
Ditto! And every year since that time, I'd think of the cartoon and wish they'd issue a video or something. This is FABULOUS and brings back wonderful memories of me and my brother on Christmas morning.
They have this on every year on Thanksgiving Day when they do the Garfield, Bozo, Frazier Thomas special on. I also grew up on this and love seeing it again.

Man. I was born in 1962 in Chicago and saw this every year. My mom died in Sept. 2007 and this just takes me back to my living room on Lemoyne St.

I almost cried when I saw this listed! Of course, I'm also from Chicago. Missed this by 2 or 3 minutes last year while watching WGN. It was so good to see Frazier Thomas & Bozo. Next...Suzie Snowflake

OK, I take it all back, I was just in a sh**y mood the past few days. My Christmas was canceled due to bad weather, and a sore foot. I'm feeling much better now!

hey, if you dont like it, don't watch the video. WGN is a national station and it is something Chicago should be proud of.

it's not Christmas in Chicago without this, LOL - I have the DVD from Smithe Brothers furniture they were giving out a few years ago with this, Suzy Snowflake and Frosty :)

Enjoy it!
I love this Christmas video.

Ditto! And every year since that time, I'd think of the cartoon and wish they'd issue a video or something. This is FABULOUS and brings back wonderful memories of me and my brother on Christmas morning.
Thanks, ManSab2006!
