I know this doesnt relate to the episode but in the future Cory helps Topangas parents try to get back together like he did with Shawns. I think it would of been a good idea to make his parents try to get a divorce so he really understands he cant fix everything. I think it would of helped him grow more as a character. He kinda seems like he has the perfect life sometimes, even if real things happen to him /:

@em1440 ya but his show is really inconsistent some times. Originally Topanga was only going to be a guest star so leter they changed the story when she became full time cast. Still a great show despite all the inconsistencies though.
taking your child away to start a new high school in a new town in their LAST YEAR is really horrible in my opinion. I mean its ONE YEAR, and everyone deserves to graduate with their friends... My dad had to move for his job and he rented a duplex and came home on the weekends just so i could finish my last TWO years of high school and graduate with my friends. then we moved with him... I think that's great parenting... to sacrifice so your kid can graduate with friends....
Mrs Matthews is wrong, you don't have to have "adult" life experience to make decisions like love. So called "adults make mistakes all the time and they have all the experience In the world. I made up mind at 14 about love, even tho my parents didn't support me, I've been happily married for 4 years almost. I'm so glad that for once I didn't listen to my parents.
I hate when parents say you don't know what love is!! Like really? Does it just magically poof up in your mind when your 25? I don't think so. People figure out what love is at different ages (it's like having a period, it happens at different times). I bet some 50 year olds still don't know what love is. And if you know what love is at 16 that is great..I'm 17 and I'm in love with the best thing that has ever happened to my life.
I realize that parts of any show are not going to be realistic, but there is no way a responsible set of parents would be in favor of a kid running away from home and suggest she be away from her parents. Like she said, college is one year away. If cory and topanga are strong enough then they would still be in love and make efforts to go to college in the same city.
I love this episode. I just love how the characters played their roles, with Eric and Shawn showing a little bit of comedic relief throughout the episode.

I love Cory and Topanga so much. The best thing about them is they seem so real. I feel like if I looked around hard enough I could find people just like them.

@LoveYoohsAll 17 really isn't an unusual age for kids to be going to college. i'm only 17, and i'll be going to college this fall. it depends on whether or not your school district allows you to start earlier as a child and if you're birthday lands before the cut off.

But I was referring to the episode where they throw a post-wedding celebration when there was no wedding. Her exact words to Topanga in that episode (while she thinks Cory is married to her are) "You should have stayed in Pittsburg." @Corpucle A parent's job is to be a parent, not a friend or a cheerleader. Do you know how many teens tell their boyfriends/girlfriends they love them? Again his mother probably thought it was typical puppy love that every teen goes through. They're just so young here and any normal parent would question that. Amy's initial reaction is a proper reaction, she wants her son to be able to move on.
@Buffy8Fan It's not really a bond thing, it's the fact that she's doing what she thinks is tough love. Of course this was before she realized just how "in love" the two of them were. When she realized that, she did the right thing.
Every character on this show has flaws, I think that's one of Amy's flaws. She can be extremely "tough" on her kids, this is a good example of going too far with that idea. I had a parent who could be like that and one who was the opposite and overly nurturing
I think Corey just changed the history of Corey and Topenga. Wasn't she new in his 6th grade class? And also Corey didn't like her. He thought she was weird.

Actually, Aunt Prudence (Olivia Hussey) is British....but that doesn't necessarily have any impact on the rest of the cast....the joke was more about Aunt Pru not knowing about Romeo and Juliet (when the actress played Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet)
Think of what could've happened had the writers not rewrote Cory & Topanga's childhood history. Topanga could've entered High School on the brink of change from her weird persona, Cory hits it off with her, which leads to them becoming the couple that you see on this video. I suppose that could've happened regardless of the rewriting, but the backstory wouldn't be as far back.

Had I been the parents in this relationship, I would have encouraged them to stay together, because whether or not it's "love," they clearly care deeply for one another, but I would not have condoned running away to be together, or thinking that they "deserved" to spend every moment together. Lots of couples have to go through long-distance periods in their relationships. Alright, that's all I have to say. Disagree if you like, I'll get over it.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with some parts of this episode. Though I think Amy was wrong to seem to insist on giving it up, and seeing other people after just 2 weeks and I also think that she overreacted, since they weren't getting married or anything, they were just trying long distance - I think that her change of heart went too far too. Moving is something that can help a person to grow. Permanently planting yourself in one city just because you were born there is wrong. (cont next post)
@rachyns19 I absolutely disagree, Amy came around only because she realized just how attached to each other they are, but she had every right to insist that her son move on with his love. There's a hell of a lot greater pain in waiting for something that will never come back to you.

I wish I'd known this at the time, but it's Olivia Hussey playing Topanga's aunt (one of the more famous Juliet's) and she was introduced as not knowing who Juliet would be. Classic!

There's an episode somewhere down the line where everyone assumes Cory & Topanga are married and the things that come out of Amy's mouth are enough to make me want to say that parents should have licsences to have children.

@Buffy8Fan I think Amy's 100% right, the relationship between Cory and Topanga is unusually dependent. What would any normal parent do? There are a lot of things to worry about, early marriage, kids, etc...These guys are only 16, that's so young.

But I was referring to the episode where they throw a post-wedding celebration when there was no wedding. Her exact words to Topanga in that episode (while she thinks Cory is married to her are) "You should have stayed in Pittsburg." She clearly assumes her "motherly bond" (snorts) is strong (snorts again).

@racetracksgirl1899 I think that's a total crock of sht.-pardon my language. If they were 17, 18, or 19, I could totally see that, but they are extremely young. Amy is doing what she thinks is 100% logical, trying to help her child move on from what she thinks is a teen heartbreak. Everyone thinks their "in love" at that age, normal teens aren't like Cory and Topanga.
Your comment about Amy's character is something I find very bizarre and quite frankly, scary. Why are you so contemptuous?

That's usually what makes any relationship of a young couple falling in love and getting married unique. It rarely happens and works. Take a look at the 50% divorce rate. @racetracksgirl1899 From a parents point of view, Amy was just trying to do what any mother out there would try to do. Help her son move on from his first heart break. The sincerity of their relationship hadn't even been explored yet on the show. This was the first time they stressed it, Daniel Fisher wasn't even supposed to be on more than one episode.
Relax we're on youtube, there's no need to get angry at characters that don't exist.

@Corpucle A parent's job is to be a parent, not a friend or a cheerleader. Do you know how many teens tell their boyfriends/girlfriends they love them? Again his mother probably thought it was typical puppy love that every teen goes through. They're just so young here and any normal parent would question that. Amy's initial reaction is a proper reaction, she wants her son to be able to move on.

@Buffy8Fan It's not really a bond thing, it's the fact that she's doing what she thinks is tough love. Of course this was before she realized just how "in love" the two of them were. When she realized that, she did the right thing.
Every character on this show has flaws, I think that's one of Amy's flaws. She can be extremely "tough" on her kids, this is a good example of going too far with that idea. I had a parent who could be like that and one who was the opposite and overly nurturing

Actually, Aunt Prudence (Olivia Hussey) is British....but that doesn't necessarily have any impact on the rest of the cast....the joke was more about Aunt Pru not knowing about Romeo and Juliet (when the actress played Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet)

Think of what could've happened had the writers not rewrote Cory & Topanga's childhood history. Topanga could've entered High School on the brink of change from her weird persona, Cory hits it off with her, which leads to them becoming the couple that you see on this video. I suppose that could've happened regardless of the rewriting, but the backstory wouldn't be as far back.

Had I been the parents in this relationship, I would have encouraged them to stay together, because whether or not it's "love," they clearly care deeply for one another, but I would not have condoned running away to be together, or thinking that they "deserved" to spend every moment together. Lots of couples have to go through long-distance periods in their relationships. Alright, that's all I have to say. Disagree if you like, I'll get over it.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with some parts of this episode. Though I think Amy was wrong to seem to insist on giving it up, and seeing other people after just 2 weeks and I also think that she overreacted, since they weren't getting married or anything, they were just trying long distance - I think that her change of heart went too far too. Moving is something that can help a person to grow. Permanently planting yourself in one city just because you were born there is wrong. (cont next post)
