huh? no East Afrikan would call them mulungu which means God in many east afrikan languages. the term used for white man here was and is "mzungu". those apartheid guyz and east afrika colonialists are collectively refered to "kaburu" singular and "makaburu" plural. a hateful term for the white oppressor.
Umlungu is a Zulu word reserved for white people. It is an incorrect pronounciation for Umlumbi . Whites were first called 'abelumbi ' when they landed in the Zululand because they were thought to posses witchcraft. Rest assured my brother, we do not see them as gods, but rather as equals with a different tone of skin. That is all there is to the word.
Intelligence does not run wild in your family, hey? I speak isiZulu and isiXhoza fluently and Mlungu means "white scum that came over the sea." a Gutter name that racially refers to the whites in South Africa. The choir that sang it with you must have died with mirth.
you may speak the language but you seem to have no idea about todays south africa. "mlungo" may have had a racial meaning in the past but today it is referred to whites in general, even friends.
i have been singing with this choir since 2006 and we are one of the strongest in kwazulu natal. becoming third in the national isicathamiya championship in the playhouse in durban in september 2007, being on tour to england, germany and holland!
this choir is one of the strongest and proudest choirs in south africa! and by the way, if you really speak the languages you should have understood that we were not singing about "mlungo"...!
WTF? Are you from SA or from another country? No wonder! If from another country just copy and paste the title of the song on Google for immediate nirvana, idiot. Bully for you on the success of the band, but don't downplay the fact that you are revering to whites south africans as "Mulungu". And it is spelled "M..U..L..U..N..G..U". and not "Mulungo!" as you state. Somebody is jerking your chain, and it is not me.
