  • This was STL last revenue flights!

  • Flying on an L-1011 was as close as you could get to a 747, loads of room and a smooth aircraft. All the planes now just seem so cramped.

  • Great view at :36

  • Holy shit southwest was around at this time... wow thought they were created in 2000

  • @FS98FSX

SW has been around for a long time. Try wikipedia.

  • When I think of the days I used to go to Breech Training Academy to pick up my tickets and see vids like this it really makes me sad to see the TWA brand gone away.

  • Interior designed by F/A... Great thinking for lockheed and wonderful plane to work!

  • TWA had about 300 daily flights at STL

  • Holy shit! was that a DC-9-10 at 4:07 ??

  • @phillyslasher No, MD-80. It was a symbolic "Employee Plane" after TWA became owner-employee and was painted in a reverse scheme.

  • @pdmad The one in the foreground? I'm almost positive that's a DC-9

  • @phillyslasher Sorry, you are right, at 4:07 that is a DC9. They were retired not long after this was shot. I thought you were referring to the red MD80.

  • @pdmad It's good, I didn't even notice the MD-80 until you mentioned it. We were both right lol

  • My Dad had 1957 seniority at SFO. I grew up on TW44 SFOJFK and TW64 SFOIAD..

  • WOW!!! Just look at how active STL is in that video. Today it is a ghost town!! '97 I was living the dream flying Miss Piggy!

  • Great plane, the L1011 was the smallest of the Jumbos, which in the beginning were the 747, DC10 and the 1011, before the Airbus days and the fly-by-wire ,767-757

Great space inside, the cockpit layout looked a bit strange, not as esthetic as the 747, but still a great exponent of the golden era.

  • @loaferguy.What a aircraft when I worked at twa in the 80,s to 2001 these planes never ceased to amaze me.They landed in fog thicker than pea soup, rain, crosswinds ,you name it.They also had a plenyt of space in inside and were smooth sailing,Thanks for the info buddy,Peace.

  • TWA planes everywhere!!

  • Looking at the L 1011 reminds of GREAT AMERICAN made products!! WOW where have those days gone. THis was my favorite Airplane to watch taxis, take off, fly and land.

  • L1011,s made arrivals in all types of weather when most couldnt, not the fastest but it was a smooth ride

  • @dreadtodred L-1011's cruised at speeds only slightly second to the 747's and sometimes as fast......DC-10's, A300's, 767's of the time were all slower than the L10.

  • what a shame, it would be nice if Lockheed would make a new plane to compete with the 787

  • I grew up in STL until about 7 years ago and man do I remember going to Lambert and it being soo busy and watch all the aircraft land and take off man I miss when it was the hub for TWA :-(

  • If I was filthy rich, I'd buy out one of those and turn it into my private jet. Money worth spending with those birds.

  • I read that the L's in IGM are all gone ,now.

  • hope one day reconsider Boeing build planes of this model, this plane has been spectacular, and I would have loved that many airlines were asked this plane. In fact, a thousand times I give my favoritism towards the L-1011 Tristar that the DC-10

  • I wish Lockheed would make a commercial plane again!

  • @indyfan22k a very advanced aircraft indeed for it's time! I prefer it anyday over the DC10.

  • @NewPumpkin I was all ready to come up with pictures and links to the World Airways L-1011 but then I realized that you're right-World Airways did not operate L-1011s. I flew on ATA to KCIA on the L-1011-500 in April 2007 and returned to the US in the same aircraft that October. The Wikipedia page on the Tristar has a picture of it. ATA went out of business in April 2008.

  • I flew to Kuwait on a military-chartered World Airways L-1011 Tristar in April 2007. NAS Norfolk, VA to KCIA with a stop in Gander, Newfoundland, and also returned on it. A rare experience! I've also been on all of Boeing's jets except the 707; born just a little too late for that.

  • @FloodedChevy you also left out Lambert,..it has been COMPLETELY reconfigured since this video was made. Somebody who didn't know STL before the west end of the airport was completely bulldozed and reconstructed wouldn't recognize this as being the same airport. There is so much that has changed about KSTL it's not even funny.

  • I LOVE the nose high AAPCH on L10 11,it is like an OWL ready 2 strike!

  • Actually, to get real technical, I believe the last revenue TWA L1011 flight was between LAX-JFK back in 9/07.

Thanks for the video. My Dad was a pilot for TWA for 39 years and my Grandfather for 38. The L1011 was my favorite aircraft in the TWA fleet.

  • That was my favorite as well,u should follow ur dad and,be a pilot!

  • What a wonderful video of the TWA L-1011. This was my all time favorite jet and I flew many L-1011 flights between LAX-JFK and LAX-STL. This airline and it's people were professional from the get-go and I want to thank you all for your outstanding service and committment to the very end. Smiles and hugs to each.

  • This brings tears to my eyes. As a resident of St. Louis, I used to watch these tristars take off and land from the west end of the runways as a little kid with my parents. This is the STL I want to remember, not the current STL.

  • @jetfreak4 Man, no kidding. I lived in St. Louis from 83-91. Used to come to the airport all the time and see what was then, like, the 12th busiest airport in the US or something. Now it's 30th. That place was hoppin' - miss seeing the L1011's & 747's. It's a great airport for another hub, though, so don't give up, especially with the new runway.

  • @jetfreak4 Heck, theres nothing left of STL anymore....:(

  • Very cool how they landed together. Wonderful Video.

  • wow the L-1011 and the Wings of Pride at 2:35

  • Great video. Awesome to see 2 of them arriving at the same time. I used to take the L-1011 for granted when TWA and Delta had a lot of them flying. Now they are virtually extinct, and I miss 'em! The L-1011 had a lot of character and style - these new modern twinjets are boring.

  • May the L-1011 Always Last Forever
