@robotwo Me too. I was experimenting with linkages and came up with Klann linkage (independantly), without ever knowing someone else's name was associated with it. I wonder if " Wheel" was someones last name too? I can understand Theo Jansen having the right, because it is much more complex.
Can you maybe make a website aand put some instruction? Maybe on lego digital designer, that would be great!! Im getting a nxt 2.0 for my straight A+'s on my report card....
I am surprised with the Theo Janssen's mechanism but your machine is great! and works with only 4 moving parts when the other needs 7 parts. Congratulations!
Very nice : ) shame I don't have so many gears though, I will have to use a simpler mechanism and probably 6 legged. On another note, do you have any suggestions of where to get gears?
Never mind!!! I have managed to develop a similar mechanism (with the same anchors to be precise) and am developing a robot. If I publish it, credits will go to you! (I will link this video if you don't mind, or give me an alias / site to link)
Very nice - its seems that the key is to create something that's mechanically elegant. Like Theo Jansen's stuff, your spider has a very smooth action.
I checked out that site, it is very close! They even got a pending patent on it. I was using the Theo Jansen concept and ended up inverting some of the turning points and reducing parts of the leg. Now working on a praying matis, very hard to get the right motion for the 4 legs. Thanks for the comment! BTW do you build too?
I really would be grateful if you answer this question, where do people get all the necessary lego pieces from? I mean, when building a walking spider, where do they get the equally lengthed legs from? Do they buy multiple lego toys of the same kind just to get the legs themselves? Are lego pieces sdold seperately in bulk? If they are sold separately in bulk, where do thye buy them from?
I buy my stuff in bulk from ebay, I also sell legos in bulk too. What do you plan to build? I would gladly answer any questions you have for me. Thank you for commentting on my video!
It took 3 days to get the right movement I wanted, the next project is a praying mantis. Trying to find the right movement I want for 6 legs is a little harder, I am working on an idea inspired by DJRaMcHiP (first comment).
Hi there I thought id take a look at your walker after the comment you had left on mine :) TY Very much for your comment and I like this concept as well :) your more then welcome to use any designs that I put up..
if you mentioned the Theo Jansen mechanism , then why didn't you mention the Klann Linkage that this obviously is? :P

@robotwo I didn't even know about it until they added me to their website.

ebay is the best place for gears, you can buy a bunch for cheap. Thanks for the comment!

Your mechanism appears to be identical to the mechanicalspider(.com) linkage used by the mondospider and others on Youtube.

*Very* neat mechanism, I like how it makes an almost square motion.
