He did it with France didn't he? yes, the same French team that were humiliated in 2002 and 2010. with Zidane they won a world cup and made a finals appearance. without Zidane they didn't even make it past the group stages. Messi has not yet been able to inspire Argentina yet the way Zidane has inspired France or the way Maradona inspired Argentina. I still believe in him though and am hoping he can do it, but you have to admit that he hasn't done it yet.

There were alot of players to compete with, Eusebio, Di Stefano, Zino doff, Ference puskas, Garrincha, Zito, Rivellino, Just fontaine,. And saying there was no one else to compete with is another excuse to make Pele look bad. If Zidane kept his cool in the 2006 world cup, and scored just a little more goals then i would say he's the best.
