America is the most tolerant country when it comes to names, accents, cultures, practices and religions. Americans grow up in multi-cultural neighborhoods/communities and so it's not "strange" to be introduced to someone with a name that may require sounding out. If you want to be called by your name, introduce yourself by your name and people will use it.
Oh yea people because these disgusting putrid vermin on this show represent all of America right? LOL get real! This is a talk show and the hosts are retarded. Simple as that.
Yes, I'm a strong supporter of sticking to your birthname. I'm a Korean-Australian and my name is Joon and I'm proud of it. Names are sacred and schould be treasured. I see a lot of asians that come to English speaking countries and change theirs to a Western name and I don't like it. You were born that way! But then again if your awful parents named you Poo or something I understand that you may want to change it.
@J2thePowerOf3 It's a common thing to change a foreign name to more English-sounding. My mom started using Cindy instead of Qing (pronounced Ching) when she entered the working world. It's a courtesy to others because good-hearted people don't want to pronounce or spell others' names wrong so it spares them from the guilt of doing so. On the other hand it ALSO is good for my mom because then it is more pleasant to introduce herself and have people remember her name next time they see her.
what's even difficult about saying yunjin kim? It's not difficult at all...its not like there are sounds in her name that are foreign to english or something...
And, for being nothing but liberal, kumbaya singing, bra burning bitches, I'm surprised any one of those old cows would actually make a stupid remark about someone's Korean surname. They make Americans seem so ignorant, yes, even Hasselbeck! She's the worse for allowing herself to come off as a batshit crazy, naive bimbo!
@absolut3destiny I wish people knew what racism is. What Joy said was not even racial, let alone racist. It wasn't even harmful It's curiosity about what Yunjin went through when she emigrated from Korea. Many people change their names when coming here, and some people don't, so it's interesting to hear both sides of the story!! She wasn't saying, "gosh you should change your name, Yunjin because I can't pronounce it", or "jeez Yunjin your name is so hard to say, Asian people are so dumb"
@karenjiaxi Okay, I actually agree with you. It wasn't necessarily racist what Joy said. I do think though that she made herself look very ignorant when she said "because it's hard to say a name that's Asian". She seems, firstly, to be implying that all Asian people's names are hard to say for everyone and secondly that they all sound the same (because apparently they are all equally difficult to pronounce). I just think in general that it's funny how stupid these women (save Yunjin) are.
fucking hysterical mindless racist cunts. imagine if they had a black guest named Lakiesha or Shameeka or Bonquisha, asking the same fucked up question. all hell would break loose.

Awww...how cute! She's talking about getting married in the future and now she's a newlywed. She got married after The End, so now she can have little babies :D Yayyy!
Nobody laughs harder at Joy's jokes than joy. If only she was as funny as she thinks she is. I like the character Sun, but it seems that the actress who plays her always complains about it. She's too subserviant, she didn't want sun and jin to end up together. ugh! Shut up.

Yunjin doesn't sound like she's been in the states since 10. If you move to an Eng speaking country and attend an American/English elementary school, your English should be more fluent than hers. Korean is my first language and I also grew up with a lot of Korean friends who moved to the states when they were young or during elementary school, they don't tend to stutter like her before starting a sentence or in the middle of clauses.
@dandesade A lot of immigrants stop speaking their original languages and just learn English, others speak several languages therefore always have a slight accent.
@dandesade I think her English is pretty typical for a Korean American who immigrated to the U.S. at age 10. She has a Korean accent and intonation that is noticeable to native English speakers, but probably less so to Korean nationals. It's nothing serious. You can't expect someone who immigrated at age 10 to be totally accent-free. If she doesn't express herself well or stutters, I don't think that has much to with when she moved to the U.S. Plenty of native speakers have the same issues.
@dandesade you have to learn a language BEFORE the age of 8-9 to be able to speak it with native fluency. 10 is too late, she'll always have an accent.
@elisarun really? Well if that were the case then shouldn't I have an Chinese accent? Since i immigrated to Aus and didn't start learning english till i was 12. Before that, i was already fluent in mandarin and semi fluent in my cities Shanghainese dialect.
I only have an accent when i speak in my own langauge but when i speak in english, its as if im a native born white guy. Another interesting factor is I do not have an Aussie accent, instead its more gravitated towards American Lmao.
Anyway, I gotta go. I hope I don't have to come back here and get angry again. Remember. I've never said I hated Yunjin. Not only I like her but also I respect her. I want to wish her a luck forever. But a star would've never been born if she didn't know how to take a SUGGESTION, not criticism. 아시겠나?

Stop sucking up. In Korea, there are many, much prettier actresses than Yun Jin Kim. Among them, there are several Korean Americans who speak perfect English, too. The problem is, however, they're either too lazy or afraid to test themselves in the U.S. or world market. If they do, I'm sure they'll also see some good results. ROFL. Not really. I admit Korean women get their faces done to look prettier, but like westerners? Whatever. "Unnatural and not good"? It's not YOUR face, get over it.
Thats so true. Right now the craze is to have big eyes, narrow noses and big lips. Its just a shame that those actresses who were beautiful as they were can't be happy with what God gave them. Either that or they give in to media pressure to look 'perfect.'
Just to let you know, there aren't many Korean American ACTRESSES in Korea. There are MANY Korean American SINGERS in Korea, but I have no idea where you're getting your info from. Stop trying to act like you know everything. Yes, there are prettier actresses than Kim Yunjin, but why does that matter?! So you're saying that prettier people get better results? Bullshit. Leave Yunjin Kim and Koreans the way they are. Stop trying to alternate the culture with your nonsense.
i'm starting to really like yunjin. i wonder if she speaks to her sisters in korean or english. i mean, being fluent in both, it could go either way. or maybe she uses konglish? haha.
i like it too, but honestly, almost all the asian kids i knew in high school with those sort of names changed them, so the question is legitimate. but not b/c you can't REMEMBER it. that's just dumb. if anything it stands out. but ppl change their names to americanize or anglosize it. like an actor named maurico something or the other, took his mother's maiden name, which is bernardo, and changed his name to maurice bernard. all so he wouldn't be type casted. an unfortunate reality really.
@IddyB I agree with you, but the reality is... that's how show business is and it's been that way for a long time. It's not really about race. Many models and actors, such as Tom Cruise, change their name to make it more "memorable" or "roll off the tongue easily. Personally, being Asian myself, I give kudos to Yunjin Kim for keeping her birth name and not changing it to something "more convenient to say" like Lucy Kim or Kim Kim.
@IddyB How is that depressing? It's common sense that a word that you don't hear but rarely is going to be forgotten easily. If I told you my name is Jarrhilthydieykari and you didn't see me again for a week, you'd probably have to ask me what my name is again, let alone know how to pronounce it or even spell it. It's advantageous for a person to at least use an English nickname or adding an English first name (while keeping their real name as middle and last).
I see what you're saying from a linguistic point of view, but it feels to me too much like changing an identity for the sake of someone else. I reckon our side of the world needs more names from the other side.
@IddyB =) We have enough names from other places. America is made of foreign people. That's what is unique about us. I didn't say to change one's name is necessary. Just using a nickname with newly met people is sufficient. (Close friends call by real name) Usually a person only needs to change his/her name as a young adult/adult when he/she emigrates from his/her country. Identity has already been set. by this age range so it's okay to use a shorter/easier nickname for everyday use.
I concur with that. Been a while since I watched this video and commented so I've sort of forgotten most of what was said on this subject. Can't be bothered watching it again, but it was good to debate this. Ain't usually the way this stuff goes down on YouTube. You're one of the calmer, rational people.
@IddyB Probably because I'm no longer a confused and rebellious 16 year old. =) But then again there are some people that are my age who, on a video of a blonde girl at UCLA saying that Asians are loud, post up that she should fall off a cliff/her family deserves the harassment/she's a wh*** who likes to be ra*ed. And then after I go on to explain some common sense to them and get blasted and told that I'm a racist and probably a blonde b* standing up for my own kind, I wonder why I even bother.
Sometimes YouTube seems to me the commercialised version of 4chan. You heard of that site? To be honest I do enjoy it, but I wouldn't ever try to engage a serious conversation or ask for advice from those guys. That way madness lies.
She's absolutely stunning. She's my role model from now on. I also immigrated to the US from Korea when I was 12 and have not been able to be as confident as her to represent Korea & to embrace the heritage.
I didnt mean to criticize her, sillies. I think she has a potential to become a bigger star in the U.S. But! I think she needs to relax a little more in American talk shows. Drink some vodka, go in there, and interview them like a master. Just be confident, Yun Jin, Americans are nothing but undereducated trashes!
elizabeth always makes me think of a 5 year old whose trying to act like an adult amongst her mummies friends.... :S - she so doesnt`belong there .... and its clear on the expressions of everyone except barbara that she is ANNOYING as fuck....
Too chinkish what the hell? I like the fact that she still has some Asian in her, which is what I find most Asian-American female actors are lacking these days. Too many sacrifice who they are for that 'white knight' stereotype and in doing so lose who they are. That's just fake to me. Asian guys are the same way (except me) they so desperately try to find their identity that they use others but it just doesn't work as well. They just look pathetic to me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I like her. I think she's a great actress who represent Korea to the world. But! I think she better stop acting a bit too Chinkish whenever on a talkshow! I think she's indirectly criticized Korean Comedy (Kang Ho Dong) because it seems too childish for her. Well, by the same token, I wish she sharpens her sense of humor, too. In more American way of telling a joke... In more mature way of telling a funny story... I wish you a luck.
By using the term...if it even IS a term.."chinkish" wouldn't that be referring to people of a Chinese ethnicity? Considering the fact that Yunjin is Korean, how does that even apply to her? Racist comments are unnecessary. I don't see anything wrong with her humor, nor her maturity. In fact, I found her funny and very regal. She's a great role model.
"Did you ever think of changing your name to an American name?" - I can't believe that stupid old cow said that. If I were Yunjin I would have responded "Yeah, as soon as you change yours to a Hutt name."
Yeah, I had one of those :O faces when she asked that. I thought it was kind of inappropriate, but Yunjin handled it well. I would've blown up. I mean, seriously, come on, it's not hard to remember Asian names. Unless they're in Kanji or Hangul...then it's a different story. o.O
She is absolutely gorgeous. She has a beautiful name too, and there is no need to change it. It's an insult to compare her to Julia Roberts, but she's got too much class to let it bother her. Julia Roberts doesn't even come close to Yun Jin Kim's beauty.
Trust me, Rosie, nobody wants to see you in a bikini you disgusting pervert.

I warned you already. Keep giving me thumbs down, I'll keep criticizing Yun Jin.
Kungfumasterjeff 2 years ago
i'm starting to really like yunjin. i wonder if she speaks to her sisters in korean or english. i mean, being fluent in both, it could go either way. or maybe she uses konglish? haha.

It must be a bit depressing to enter a world where people suggest you should change your name so they can remember it.
IddyB 2 years ago 124
Ya, that would kind of piss me off.
tr4d3m4rk44 2 years ago
@IddyB I personally love her name and I remember it
moufa999 1 year ago
Hell yeah. It stands out.
IddyB 1 year ago
i like it too, but honestly, almost all the asian kids i knew in high school with those sort of names changed them, so the question is legitimate. but not b/c you can't REMEMBER it. that's just dumb. if anything it stands out. but ppl change their names to americanize or anglosize it. like an actor named maurico something or the other, took his mother's maiden name, which is bernardo, and changed his name to maurice bernard. all so he wouldn't be type casted. an unfortunate reality really.
ghlover2001 1 year ago
@IddyB I agree with you, but the reality is... that's how show business is and it's been that way for a long time. It's not really about race. Many models and actors, such as Tom Cruise, change their name to make it more "memorable" or "roll off the tongue easily. Personally, being Asian myself, I give kudos to Yunjin Kim for keeping her birth name and not changing it to something "more convenient to say" like Lucy Kim or Kim Kim.
KawaiiHunters 1 year ago
@IddyB Right?? I wish she straight up verbally smacked them for that.
batongbakalpare 1 year ago
@IddyB How is that depressing? It's common sense that a word that you don't hear but rarely is going to be forgotten easily. If I told you my name is Jarrhilthydieykari and you didn't see me again for a week, you'd probably have to ask me what my name is again, let alone know how to pronounce it or even spell it. It's advantageous for a person to at least use an English nickname or adding an English first name (while keeping their real name as middle and last).
karenjiaxi 9 months ago
I see what you're saying from a linguistic point of view, but it feels to me too much like changing an identity for the sake of someone else. I reckon our side of the world needs more names from the other side.
IddyB 9 months ago
@IddyB =) We have enough names from other places. America is made of foreign people. That's what is unique about us. I didn't say to change one's name is necessary. Just using a nickname with newly met people is sufficient. (Close friends call by real name) Usually a person only needs to change his/her name as a young adult/adult when he/she emigrates from his/her country. Identity has already been set. by this age range so it's okay to use a shorter/easier nickname for everyday use.
karenjiaxi 9 months ago
I concur with that. Been a while since I watched this video and commented so I've sort of forgotten most of what was said on this subject. Can't be bothered watching it again, but it was good to debate this. Ain't usually the way this stuff goes down on YouTube. You're one of the calmer, rational people.
IddyB 9 months ago
@IddyB Probably because I'm no longer a confused and rebellious 16 year old. =) But then again there are some people that are my age who, on a video of a blonde girl at UCLA saying that Asians are loud, post up that she should fall off a cliff/her family deserves the harassment/she's a wh*** who likes to be ra*ed. And then after I go on to explain some common sense to them and get blasted and told that I'm a racist and probably a blonde b* standing up for my own kind, I wonder why I even bother.
karenjiaxi 9 months ago
Sometimes YouTube seems to me the commercialised version of 4chan. You heard of that site? To be honest I do enjoy it, but I wouldn't ever try to engage a serious conversation or ask for advice from those guys. That way madness lies.

She's gorgeous. And I love her voice.
DizzyDior12 2 years ago 4
I'm not really into Asian girls but I must confess I think I'm feel her so bad. She's so beautiful.
mazzy247 2 years ago 5
She's absolutely stunning. She's my role model from now on. I also immigrated to the US from Korea when I was 12 and have not been able to be as confident as her to represent Korea & to embrace the heritage.
Go Kim Yun Jin!

Nothing more sexier than someone as beautiful and articulate as Kim Yun Jin!
SrustinLim 2 years ago 6
And it's okay to act a little cocky!
I wish you a luck, Yun Jin.
Kungfumasterjeff 2 years ago
I didnt mean to criticize her, sillies. I think she has a potential to become a bigger star in the U.S. But! I think she needs to relax a little more in American talk shows. Drink some vodka, go in there, and interview them like a master. Just be confident, Yun Jin, Americans are nothing but undereducated trashes!
Kungfumasterjeff 2 years ago
ha ha... you can totally see joy bitchar looking at how yun jin is so slim compared to herself.

Ivan1cH 2 years ago 3
Too chinkish what the hell? I like the fact that she still has some Asian in her, which is what I find most Asian-American female actors are lacking these days. Too many sacrifice who they are for that 'white knight' stereotype and in doing so lose who they are. That's just fake to me. Asian guys are the same way (except me) they so desperately try to find their identity that they use others but it just doesn't work as well. They just look pathetic to me.
shuyin131 2 years ago 4
I mean when she's invited on an American talk show. And hair style too.

Kungfumasterjeff 2 years ago
chinkish?
wtf
racist
JamaicanCutie18 2 years ago

Unless they're in Kanji or Hangul...then it's a different story. o.O
IamtheWhiz 2 years ago 2
@Nalvor
lol i was just about to say that.
She's the kind that makes us Americans look ignorant to the rest of the world.. But of course, she's on The View.
