Today no girl on a beach in Rio would wear granny panty swimsuits like that. We've come a long way from 1980's. Today its thong or g-string, thank you Brazil. Western civilization thanks you.
Pan Am... killed Pan Am. Bad moves and an oversized fleet to try and conduct a 1960s model business in a post-luxury deregulated financial environment.
Ohhh,..ahhh,...I remember this commercial soooo very well!! Thank God someone at ABC made a show about the much better days of air travel and life in general! Thanks!
@agfagaevart Well. Don't forget that United prevented PanAm from going domestic as well. If they were allowed to do that perhaps they could still be around.
those were the classy days of travel when people dressed properly and conducted themselves with courtesy. Cabin crews smiled and great food was served on board, Pan Am was the tops, their President Special first class service was impeccable , I also remember the uptstairs dining room in their 747 aircrafts with fresh flowers on each table.
@chloe7829 Keep in mind this was only a survey. But, In the 1980s, I called all the airlines to compare prices. Over about a dozen calls equally to each airline, I found some airlines were much better at public relations. BEST of all of them all was Piedmont--hands down. Their phone staff and reservations was unmatched by any--VERY HELPFUL! . Sad to say, Pan Am was the lowest on my list. Their reservations clerks (on all 12 calls over a one period) proved to be rude and NOT helpful at all.
Missing Pan Am and the golden years of air travel. There was no other airline like Pan Am, then again it was the pioneer in civil aviation. Flew a few times, quite memorable flights. There was this flight between New York and Johannesburg via Dakar and Monrovia with stops in the middle of the night. We South Africans were not allowed off the plane during the refueling. The cabin crew changed at one or the other town, but while on board they made us feel like it was better inside than outside.
I wish they had the commercial that showed one of the Jumbo Jets, airborne, from one side, painted with the National logo, and then flew around it to reveal the Pan Am logo. National was fun and Pan Am was classy. It was a good combination while it lasted. Pan Am's inflight service has NEVER been surpassed. They set the standard.
I like it how the commercial is non PC; the baggage dudes are black, pilots are white, passengers are squeaky clean white, and once they get to the Eiffel Tower the people in front are French, not Senegalese hawking pot and Asian made pictures of accordian players. Ahh, the good old days...

And, Pan Am management didn't want to pay for extra security at airports, and we all know what happened in December 1988, dont we?

what a classy airline - I only flew it one time, but you cannot even compare today with the golden days of travel - those days OVER.

@erinserb The golden days, before the average person could afford to fly. Good or Bad thing. I'll let everyone else decide.

Dear All,
I have some questions about psychology:
(1) Why do we love flying?
(2) Why do we feel more happy and optimistic when watching airlines' TV commercial?
(3) Why does flying is an representation of culture diversity?
(4) Why do we think that aerospace service and industry are representations of leadership and "working together"?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)
