Staggering description & acting - halcyon2469 your comment is spot on. One of the best films/series to come out of the US ever [imho] with awe inspiring performances from all the cast - pure, unadulterated brilliance.
Jeffrey Wright! one of these days there will be a word that replaces excellence. We will all use his name Jeffrey Wright! Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright Jeffrey Wright!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course Jeffrey Wright steals this scene...the man originated the role of Belize in the Broadway Debut in the 90s. After seeing the full 6 hour version in London's Lyric Theatre, I imagine no one plays Norman Ariaga quite like Jeffrey Wright. I really wish I could have seen him perfom this scene on stage.
It's quite amazing that in a cast of such talented actors, one person still manages to steal the show, and that one person is Jeffrey Wright. Quite simply perfection in a performance
I would pay so much money for a poster of that final shot of Belize and Ethel standing in the lightning. It's so haunting and terrifying and yet overwhelming with its sense that there is a supreme law, and justice is inevitable.
I'm a gay man who usually gets offended when i see flambyoant potrayls of our community. But this movie had heart. The characters weren't just written colorfully for cheap entertainment.
Al Pacino is amazing in this scene, as he is in most scenes and films that he does but I really have to hand it to Jeffery Wright on this one. His dialogue is so fascinating and entrancing. He is a marvel to watch. Each little nuance of gestures as he holds the cigarette so dilecatly while explaining what it is like to live in indgrogenous heaven. The way the shot looks and the way the sound was used during this scene is incredible.
Jeffery Wright's character's name, Belize, is the country i live in. thats what caught my attention to this series. after i saw his performance... that type of tallent cannot be replicated by any other being... that my friends, is God given. Exellent actor, Brilliant mind, magnetic appearance... It Was SUBLIME!
The most haunting, fantastically written lines in modern English. Close your eyes and just listen. Poetry spoken by a genius, set to the sound of thunder; eerie, tragic, full of threat and promise of an as-yet unthinkable future. Grrrr I can't even begin to describe the dialogue between the two actors, I don't have the words... Kushner does.
yes, thanks for saying that. When I first saw this scene (and read it too ), I was simply blown away by the language - and Jeffrey Wright is even more stunning than Pacino
@cmhmuscle its a tough call, for sure. they are both breathtaking but wright may very well steal this scene. he steals the movie(s) with this scene. and THAT is quite the feat.
What I think is sad about this is we have two awesome actors and you can only one of them on camera. I would've loved to have seen all of Al's facial expressions in this.

2:16 - 2:20 - Wright's reading of the single word, "Sir," may be the most potent single word acted I've ever seen.
