The music is adapted from the scherzo of Beethoven Ninth's symphony, the most important thing being that it's out of copyright. Great plagiarism though.
Wicked advert, but IMO Audi tried to copy this with their "rythm of lines" thing when they launched the A5, to me their flowing lines were extremely similar to the line patterns you see in this ad, and the Audi idea aired only 6 months or so after this did.. =/
If you like this ad and have never heard of Synesthesia, you should look it up. This video is a surprisingly effective representation of one version of the condition.
I can honestly say that I've watched this over 100 times and that part in particular just stirs me where I hear it and see the visuals with it. I love it.
Always loved Beethoven's 9th. Absolutely sublime. All classical music is jut a footnote to Beethoven. Just a shame it has to be BMW such beautiful music is set to. Should be a British car manufacturer but there aren't any left. BMW killed off the last one called Rover when they stabbed them in the back and sold them down the river. Now BMW's most successful selling model is the Mini. It's passed ironic. Makes you weep, like Beethoven's 9th - but out of despair not joy.
Why should a British manufacturer be using this music? German music for a German company seems quite reasonable. (apologies, I accidentally clicked the thumbs up, I meant thumbs down.. ;)
If/when the remix ever does get a release, I've heard it's going to be called 'Trouble In Paradise' I don't know how acurate that rumour is, but worth keeping an eye out just in case!
The 60 second TV commercial uses models from the BMW range, together with orchestrated light and music, to suggest what it's like to own, touch, feel and drive a BMW. This is accompanied by a contemporary re-working of Beethoven's 9th Symphony by UNKLE. Unfortunately, as BMW did not produce the music, we do not own the distribution rights, and are therefore unable to provide you with a copy. As far as I am aware, there isn't anywhere to buy UNKLE's version on CD.
This is by Unkle and includes Beethoven's 9th Symphony. The advert can be downloaded by going to Google, typing in - bmw "see how it feels" download - and it should be the first link by virtualcamera.
This advert is so magnificant! i completely agree with boma23 every hair stands on end when the music plays. Cheers for posting it. Does anyone know what song this is on itunes?
Truly magnificent, although with good cause BMW no longer show the potential purchaser what cars they offer, this music is enough to make any who hear it sit up and take notice.... Unkle you better release this! Think what Samuel Barber did for William Orbit ;)
my TV comes through a big separates system, each time i watch and hear this ad with the volume loud it makes every hair stand on end. surprised me just a tad when i found out it was unkle! lets hope a version is release, i've just joined their mailing list in case ;)
Kinda a shame this is on Youtube - it looks absolutely awful, very low resolution and it's in the wrong format - stretched to 4:3 when it was shot in 16:9. The UNKLE music is the same though.
I used to think this ad was a bit boring, but now it has had the desired effect and is beginning to drive me towards buying a BMW. I think it very effectively displays the cars and the music they have chosen makes the advert very dramatic.
Tagline: See how it feels...In application of Kevin Robert's 'SISOMO', perhaps what they can do is really literally show what it feels in the senses of a car driver..[clive owen voice over since bmw had him on before]...All i see in this ad is fireworks...Aesthetics with no substance...What is the ad agency again?
Perhaps with a little more clarity would give a different mood..The lights shining through the car is fine, but when the lines effect came out...that was just terrible as it became a horrible mix of special effects...is that all bmw is about?...special effects?...
Wow! Warren and Nick flat out nailed it! The UNKLE remix is a serious emo generator and all those lasers and nebula should situate these cars at the epicenter of global consumer desire. That spark tunnel shot with the black car is astounding.
Brilliant advert, almost as good as their 'It's Only A Car'. Love the simultaneous fast and slow imagery - fast lighting effects playing over the car body as the camera slowly arcs around.
I absolutely love this. So many car ads go for a similar CG-video approach, but this is miles better because it celebrates the brand and is very uplifting.
bmw fan.. but the ad sucks..

just buy UNKLE's album 'End Title...Redux'
It's on there. The track is called 'Chaos in Paradise'
ribenawrath 2 years ago
The track used is actually called Trouble In Paradise (Variation On A Theme) and can be found on the End Title.... Stories For Film album.
Whilst the album 'End Titles.... Redux' does exist, it does not contain a track called Chaos in Paradise, so that information is incorrect.
I highly recommend both albums.
