Rats get a really bad rep, but my two are very clean, don't have any odor, and one of them loves to cuddle and sit on my hand while I type or climb up my arm to my shoulder so he can nibble on my hair or just sit there and clean himself while I'm drawing or reading. He also loves yogurt treats and will do just about anything for one. The other one, who is his brother from the same litter, for some reason isn't very sociable and hates being picked up, but I'm working on that.

@Nyghtshade409 That sounds just like my two. Piff (so called because he is right spiffy, the way he runs around) will come right to me and doesn't mind being picked up at all, but his cagemate and brother Niff (so called because he's got to sniff everything out before he makes a decision) just about has to be dragged kicking and screaming out of the cage when it is time for cleaning. But they were rescue rats, and at least Niff doesn't still try to bite me. Wish they'd live for 10 years.

The rat in the motion was called Seti, the both white rats were Pipette and Soyouz. We had also with my girl in this time 2 black rats, Pixel and Tatouille. All 5 rats were so cute and amazing. They are all died now. Rat's Life is so short.

We are still living with rats now, it's so funny !

aww, pet rats (if u look after them) dont get disease they r like hamster, mice or any other rodent. u should rly try and convince ur mum and get 1 (well 2 cuz rats r very lonely animals and it would b best if u get 2) they make very gd family pets and r very clean animals XD

my mom doesnt beleive me that they are clean animals. My mom will let me get mice and hamsters but not rats. I have been wanting a rat since befor ei could remeber. I once had one but it was when i was too yong to play, and take care of her myself.

It's true; a cat will clean itself around twelve times a day while a rat cleans itself as much as twenty times a day. Plus they don't smell nearly as bad as dogs or cats. Just so long as you keep the cage clean they will remain very tidy.

Everybody always says that rats dont smell. Mine do! I bathe them and comb their fur and i clean out their cage heaps and they still smell! Why? Do you know?

@lavendersteph your mum needs some educating then. Rats didn't spread the black death - it was the fleas on the rats. Domestic rats are nothing like their wild cousins, they are clean, loving, intelligent. They make excellent pets.
