This song just makes me happy because I can relate to every single damn word. Marvin knew what was up. It's like he's here with me, helping me through this.
Live version can't touch this one...When an artist goes into the studio they typically give their fresh all. Marvin MEANT this when he laid it to track!
i used to really adore the live version of this song...but now i think that this one is my favorite. there's a restrained desperation in this recording that's missing in the other. i LUV marvin :)
I was 7 years old when I heard the news Marvin had died. I grew up in Flint, MI and had family in Detroit. I just remember thinking about his performance at the All-Star game which was my first and last time watching him live. I couldn't understand at that age how such a tremendous talent could pass away. That was the first death of a celebrity that struck me. I felt like i could identify with Marvin Gaye even as a 7 year old. I try to incorporate the honesty he had in his music in mine.RIP
the day marvin died everyting aound me crumble. i remember flying from fort lauderdale to detriot to go to his funeral. i stood in that long ass line just trying to get in the church. my son was 2 and we had to paid our respects. my wife left me right after that so me and my son moved to detriot to live and i met a woman out there name naomi and had 6 more kids all my kids was made off distant lover playing in the back ground. i'm the father of 7 kids and my middle son name is marvin. rip marvin
God Bless you brother. I was in the Army for awhile. Served in the Special Forces with some damn good brothers. I remember chatting it up with my bros about how we weren't even alive during these songs, but how we all could relate and feel the music.
My father was driving me to school when we heard the news of his passing.. My father was born during tough times.. His hard shell breached and he had to pull over on the shoulder of the road... I will never forget.
if elvis is the king if rock and MJ is the king if pop then Marvin has to be the king of soul.I remember when he died there was the same reaction as when elvis died and school should have been called off .Also there should be a marvin gaye postage stamp thanks peace out.
Let's Get It On was my hook album back in the day. This song was the joint! Too many nights... sooooo many lovers... so many sweet memories. We surely miss Marvin.
@frtmp I love the LIVE performance --- it is the one my parents used to play -- this kinda sounds funny to me without all the fans (women) screaming in the background, But this man had a beautiful voice live version or studio version. I love old R&B! I love Marvin Gaye - he was unique!
Marvin you left us all too soon man - but we have your music that will go on forever. Classics all.. Thank you man and may you RIP
