is it possible to find the DVD anc Cd togheter? I can't go on official site Quinlanroad because is under restoring or something like. This is one of the most beautiful song that you made Loreena!!!!Godess bless you Loreena )0(
I'm so pleased you have made more videos available. I have not been fortunate enough to see you live though I wish I did. Your music is refreshing and astounding. Thank you!
I love Loreena´s music! And I started to read Shakespeare since she began to sing about his work. Please Loreena, keep on singing more about Shakespearse, maybe a Sonet...or something of Yeats. Thank you for singing for all the world!
thank you so Much to Loreena and everybody working with her. You guys have changed my life and I will forever be grateful> May many blessing be bestowed on all of you
hi there mothball1972, the name of the instrument is cretean Lyra or in Turkish Classical Kemenche but name of the guy is not Sokratis Sinopoulous, his name is Stratis Psaradellis, i just wanted to correct the message below, they are awesome and as a Turkish man I am so honoured with the name of this song THE GATES OF ISTANBUL!!!!!
Hmmm, Sokratis Sinopoulos was the lyra player who performs on the official recording of 'An Ancient Muse' and 'Nights from the Alhambra'. Stratis Psaradellis accompanies Loreena as lyra player in her more recent concerts. Given that Psaradellis has long hair and no glasses, and given that I have met Sinopoulos personally (and that he wears glasses) I would say, with some reserve - because the face is not clearly shown - that probably the lyra player in this video is Sokratis Sinopoulos.
@athas23 Who said Psaradellis is Turkish? or who said Lyra is Turkish? why unnecessary nationalism? I love this music no matter who plays or no matter what plays!!!
no doubt Turkish & Greek Culture has lots of similarities there are things Greeks got from Turks and there are things Turks got from Greeks, I do not mind at all, that is how culture is being created. I said I am only proud of the name of the song as a Turkish man, I dont think you would say İstanbul is Greek too...
It's brilliant! :D You'll love it! I've watched mine three times so far *got it yesterday* and today let my history teacher borrow it. The Highwayman made me cry. It's a very interesting watch.
'quinlanroad' you would add the words "Loreena" and "Mckennitt" to the Tags, this way it'll be easier people find your videos. Thanks Quinlanroad for the last summer great tour. I attended 4 of the concerts in Spain and all of them were fav, Loreena's team works as a Swiss watch even Santiago's clock bells wanted to participate ;-)) Laura&Jose

Expil, you are correct it is Stratis Psaradellis and not Sokratis Sinopoulous. I have no idea why I wrote Sokratis' name in the response above.

What are the words to the song that she is singing before she sings "The Gates of Istanbul"?
richardlovesuu 3 years ago
That's just a vocalization that she does versions of as an intro to some songs. Basically it's stuff like "Na la la na ni da."
