I'm gonna start saying "im a TOP MAN" and then they'll be like whhaaa?
the problem is there are so many things i want to do and i can't DECIDE and this video didn't help me at all... i wanna be creative but i also want stability and to make a lot of money... and not only have one degree but multiple degrees and maybe a doctorates
It does seem that it's a luxury to be able to ask yourself what you want to do with your life and choose a career based on just that. With this economy it seems the only practical choice is to stay in school as long as possible. But I want to perform on Broadway, I'm moving in
June to make it happen. Will it help others? I hope my passion for theatre will better the life of someone other than myself one day.The luxury is going to be making enough money to pay rent and eat all in the same month.
Its interesting to me that I have known for as long as I can remember what I want to do in this life. I want to be a mom, unfortunately that's not exactly something you get paid for so I did the next best thing and became a nanny. Now I am thinking that maybe if you can't have the best thing you should go in a different direction entirely or come to resent those that have successfully accomplished the one thing in life you really want, but cant do yourself.
Also... peta says people should be considerate of animals and whatnot. I don't see why we should be considerate of animals when other predators like cheetahs and crocodiles aren't considerate of other animals. So I made a vow that I'd only become a vegetarian if they got a lion to become a vegetarian as well.
You can make up your own question to that one, but that's the best I've come up with so far.
no. we should intentionally choose a career that doesn't help anyone, regardless of whether or not we like it, just for the sake of pointless hedonism.
nah, but in all seriousness, i think we should choose whatever careers we want to because life is too short to worry about whether or not what we're doing is benefitting anyone else. so, yeah, i guess i really am a hedonist. but that's okay, because as long as i'm happy, it doesn't matter. (see what i did there?)
Most of the jobs today make it so you "cater" to someone else so much that the majority of people never know how to do anything for themselves and perpetually get stuck in this cycle. I think it best to not only help others but make sure your helping yourself as well.
Unless you are a thief. I once saw a movie where the main character who was a thief defended his choice in job by saying that by stealing he was stimulating the economy. Oh, also, in the fifth element zorg explains how through his destruction he helps people by making it possible for them to be employed in trying to clean up the mess that he causes. However one could defend by saying that those people might have have had other jobs that would have benefitted mnkind better.
Lol, it was just a joke...well, sorta. I love your QLP's. :)
It merely hits to close to home. It's something I'm asking myself often in deciding on whether I am going to grad school for architecture or going into teaching. Though I suppose both occupations could help or hurt depending...

While watching this I thought that I might post a vid response defending the point that people whth careers that mostly hurt people do help a select few. But I thought about what Kellan said about kidnappers and I think that he is right. I cant see who who that would benefit aside from the kidnapper. However if they were hired to do it then it would be different. So if you were hired to do a crime you are helping your employer. If you are a self employed criminal then you dont help.

Haha, oh, I gotcha.
Good luck with your decision. Remember this:

dont go into architecture unless you have alot of spare time that you want to get rid of and then some
but do go into it if it is your passion
even though it takes way too much of my time I'm loving it so far
it seems to be a perfect blend of everything
btw my professors would fight to the death their belief that architecture is the most influential thing in the world
it can help and it can hurt
